The Bosch SMS50D08AU is a discontinued Serie 4 freestanding dishwasher, so it is mainly relevant if you have found remaining stock or are considering a used unit. Its 2017 Bosch specification sheet lists 14 place settings, five programs, and Eco 45°C consumption figures of 13.4 litres of water and 230 kWh of energy. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results.
What the Bosch SMS50D08AU offers
Bosch’s 2017 product specification sheet describes the SMS50D08AU as an anti-fingerprint stainless-steel, freestanding dishwasher with a Polinox inner tub and capacity for 14 international place settings. It lists these programs:
- Pots and Pans 70°C
- Auto 45–65°C
- Eco 45°C
- Quick Wash 45°C
- Pre-Rinse
The sheet also lists VarioSpeed, which Bosch says can reduce wash time by up to 50%. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independently verified test result. Other listed features include a height-adjustable upper basket, folding racks, a cutlery basket, delay start from 1 to 24 hours, an electronic rinse-aid indicator, AquaSensor and LoadSensor, heat-exchanger drying, and a three-stage self-cleaning filter system. A tablet dosing feature is also described.
Dimensions, consumption and noise
The Bosch specification sheet gives dimensions of 845 × 600 × 600 mm (H × W × D), or 815 mm high with the top removed. CHOICE lists the dimensions as 85 × 60 × 60 cm. Both descriptions point to a standard 60 cm-wide freestanding format, but neither replaces checking the actual opening and installation requirements for the appliance you are buying.

The consumption figures are specifically tied to Eco 45°C; they should not be treated as usage for every program. Bosch’s sheet lists a cold-water connection and AquaStop Plus anti-flood protection, as well as a child door lock and a two-year warranty. Warranty coverage depends on the purchase date and the applicable terms. The sheet says parts are German and assembly is in Türkiye; CHOICE identifies Türkiye as the country of origin, so the finished appliance should not be described as made in Germany.
What independent review evidence is available?
CHOICE labels the SMS50D08AU discontinued. Its public listing includes claimed efficiency figures and a historical price of $1,189, but that price is not current pricing. CHOICE’s expert rating, washing and drying scores, measured resource use, noise test, and year tested are available only to members on the cited page. The public information therefore does not establish how the machine performed in CHOICE’s laboratory testing.

Confirm the exact model and documents
Read the full E-Nr, including its suffix, from the rating plate. Bosch support has manuals, installation instructions, troubleshooting, repair booking and spare-parts resources for multiple production variants; use the exact E-Nr when searching, since documents and parts may differ across variants. The available information does not confirm stock for any particular replacement part.

Check physical fit and installation
- Measure the available width, depth and height, including any constraints around the top and adjoining cabinets.
- Check the correct installation instructions for clearances and water and electrical requirements before arranging delivery or installation.
- Inspect the machine’s connections, door, racks, seals and interior if buying used, and ask for a demonstration of a complete cycle where practical.
Establish condition, coverage and support
- For remaining stock, confirm the actual purchase date, what warranty applies, and who will handle a service claim.
- For a used unit, ask about known faults, repairs, service records and whether any parts have already been replaced.
- Check whether repair support is available in your location and verify compatible part availability before relying on an assumed repair.
Compare against your needs
Compare the specific unit’s price and condition with your requirements for capacity, rack flexibility, cycle choices and installation fit. Treat the published water, energy and noise figures as specifications rather than independent measurements, and compare them with independently measured results for any other machine you are considering. The published evidence here does not establish that the SMS50D08AU is superior or inferior to a current alternative.

The SMS50D08AU may suit a buyer who finds a well-documented unit at a price that makes sense, but its discontinued status makes condition, warranty, service access and exact installation fit central to the decision. Its published specifications describe a 14-place-setting machine with five programs and Eco-cycle resource figures; they do not, on their own, establish laboratory performance or reliability.
