For a BOOX reader, BOOX Tappy is the safer purchase. It is a named accessory with published dimensions, operating modes and a firmware-based compatibility statement. “PageTurner Ring” is not one standardized product: marketplace listings use that name for several unbranded rings with different hardware and claims. A ring may be more comfortable for finger-worn, one-handed or bedside reading, but you must verify the exact listing against your e-reader and app. Neither remote is universally compatible, and Bluetooth pairing alone does not prove that page-turn commands will work.
What you are actually comparing
The two names describe different levels of product identity. Tappy is a specific BOOX accessory. PageTurner Ring is a category-style name used by multiple sellers for products that look similar but may have different firmware, buttons, batteries and command mappings.
BOOX Tappy
The BOOX Official Store lists Tappy at US$25.99 in its 2026 product listing. It is a small handheld remote with three intended modes:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Reading mode: intended for page-turn controls.
- Browsing mode: intended for scrolling or navigation.
- Multimedia mode: intended for media controls.
The same listing describes wireless pairing, USB-C charging, an indicator light and two spare keycaps. Its stated dimensions are 43 × 37 × 25 mm (1.69 × 1.45 × 0.98 in), and its approximate weight is 29 g (1.02 oz). These are vendor specifications, not measurements from an independent test.

BOOX says Tappy works with Note Air5 C, Palma 2 Pro and other BOOX devices that support Bluetooth and run firmware V4.2 or later. That statement gives a BOOX owner a concrete starting point: check the model and firmware before buying rather than assuming that every Bluetooth-capable reader accepts the same commands.
What “PageTurner Ring” can mean
There is no single clearly identified manufacturer behind the name. One PayLaterAlligator listing describes an unbranded ring with Bluetooth 5.0, a claimed range of up to 10 m, a 25 mAh ring battery, a 250 mAh charging case and USB-C charging. It claims compatibility with Kindle, Kobo, iReader and BOOX devices. Those are claims for that particular listing, not a specification shared by every page-turner ring.
An OnBuy listing for another unbranded product calls the device “D07 Pro.” It lists a 10 m range, a 25 mAh battery, approximately 1.5 hours of charging, USB-C and two spare page-turner clips. The different model name and feature details illustrate why a generic comparison can mislead: two rings sold under similar wording may not use the same electronics or software.

Compatibility is the deciding issue
A Bluetooth accessory has to pass two separate tests. First, the e-reader or phone must discover and pair with it. Second, the reading app must interpret the remote’s button commands as next-page, previous-page, scroll or another useful action. A successful pairing only proves the first step.
What BOOX has established for Tappy
BOOX’s published requirement is firmware V4.2 or later on a Bluetooth-supporting BOOX device, with Note Air5 C and Palma 2 Pro named explicitly. If you own another BOOX model, treat “other BOOX devices” as conditional: confirm that your exact model has Bluetooth and that its firmware meets the stated version before ordering.
Tappy’s three modes matter because the same physical buttons can send different commands. Select Reading mode when testing an ebook, Browsing mode for a scrolling interface and Multimedia mode for audio controls. The BOOX launch announcement dated May 7, 2026 says Tappy can flip pages and scroll without touching the screen; it also says that, while listening to audiobooks or music, the remote can skip to the previous or next track.

What independent testing found outside BOOX
In a June 12, 2026 hands-on report, TechRadar used Tappy with a Nothing Phone (4a) Pro and found that all three modes worked. The same report says Tappy paired with a Kobo Libra Colour but did not turn its pages. Three Kindle devices did not detect Tappy as a Bluetooth device at all. The report also describes Bluetooth 5.4 and an approximately 10 m wireless range, and gives prices of $25.99, €29.99 and AU$49.

This is one publication’s hands-on experience, not a controlled laboratory comparison. It nevertheless demonstrates the practical risk: the remote can operate correctly with one Android device, pair without page-turning on another reader, and remain undiscovered by other readers.
Why a ring’s compatibility claim needs more checking
Ring listings often name several ecosystems at once, but the listing may not identify the exact reader models, firmware versions or apps tested. Before buying, look for all of the following:
- The ring’s exact model number, not only “page-turner ring.”
- The Bluetooth version and whether the seller specifies a standard keyboard, media-control or proprietary profile.
- Your e-reader model and operating-system version in the compatibility list.
- Whether the seller promises page turning, scrolling or only a Bluetooth connection.
- A return policy that covers incompatibility, especially when the listing uses broad ecosystem claims.
If those details are absent, the ring is a compatibility experiment rather than a predictable accessory.

When Tappy’s handheld shape helps
A thumb-operated remote is easy to keep beside a book, on a nightstand or in the hand holding the reader. Its 29 g approximate weight is low enough that it should not add much to a reader when carried separately, and the replaceable keycaps provide a way to keep a frequently used button feeling distinct after wear. The trade-off is that you must hold or reach for a separate object. If your reading position changes often, that extra object can be easier to misplace than a ring worn on a finger.

The mode switch is useful when one remote is used for reading, scrolling and audio, but it adds a setup step. If a button appears to do nothing, confirm the selected mode before assuming that the reader is incompatible.
When a ring’s wearable form helps
A finger-worn remote can keep the control in the same place while the other hand supports an e-reader. That can be convenient for one-handed reading, a supported tablet stand or a bedside setup where reaching toward the screen is awkward. A charging case also gives the ring a defined storage location and, according to the cited listing, additional battery capacity.
Wearability is not automatically comfort. Ring size, button placement, finger choice and the weight of the ring can affect whether repeated presses are pleasant. Because the cited listings do not establish common dimensions or weight, inspect the exact product photos and return terms rather than generalizing from the word “ring.”

The labels differ by reader, but the reliable process is the same: charge, pair, select the intended mode, then test commands inside the actual reading app.
- Charge the remote. Use the supplied USB-C cable or the ring’s charging case. Wait for the indicator or the seller’s charging indication to show that charging is complete.
- Update the reader first. On a BOOX device, verify that the firmware is V4.2 or later and that Bluetooth is enabled. On other readers, install any pending system update before troubleshooting a new accessory.
- Open Bluetooth settings on the reader. Keep the remote close during discovery. If it was paired with another device, disconnect or forget that old pairing first.
- Put the remote into pairing mode. Follow the exact button or mode instruction supplied with the unit; generic rings do not all use the same sequence.
- Select the discovered device once. Avoid repeatedly tapping several similarly named entries. Wait for the status to change to paired or connected.
- Choose the control mode. Use Reading mode on Tappy for an ebook, Browsing mode for scrolling and Multimedia mode for audio. For a ring, use the mode identified by its own manual.
- Test inside the target app. Open a book, press next and previous once, and watch for a page change. Then test at least one scroll or media command if those are part of your intended use.
- Record the result by app. A remote may work in one app and fail in another on the same reader. Note the reader model, firmware, app and mode so you can reproduce a successful setup.
Do not judge compatibility from the Bluetooth settings screen alone. The meaningful result is a repeatable page or scroll action in the app you actually use.
Troubleshooting: pairing succeeds but pages do not turn
1. Check the operating mode
On Tappy, switch to Reading mode and test again. A remote left in Multimedia mode may send track commands instead of page commands. For a ring, consult the model-specific manual because button combinations differ.

2. Test the reader’s own app
Open a standard ebook or document in the reader’s native app. If the remote works there but not in a third-party app, the app is likely handling keyboard, media or accessibility commands differently. Look for an in-app key-binding or remote-control setting before changing Bluetooth pairings.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →3. Remove competing connections
Disconnect headphones, keyboards or other remotes temporarily. Some readers limit simultaneous Bluetooth input devices, and a previously connected phone can capture the remote’s reconnection attempt.
4. Forget and re-pair
Remove the remote from the reader’s saved Bluetooth devices, power-cycle both devices, then repeat the pairing procedure from the beginning. This clears a stale connection but cannot add unsupported page commands to a reader that does not recognize them.
5. Separate discovery failure from command failure
If the reader never lists the device, investigate charging, pairing mode, distance and whether another device already owns the connection. If it lists and pairs but pages never move, treat that as a command-compatibility problem. TechRadar’s Kobo Libra Colour result with Tappy is an example of the second case; its three Kindle results illustrate the first.
6. Use the return window for an unbranded ring
When a ring’s listing makes broad compatibility claims but does not identify your exact model, test it promptly. Keep the packaging and document the listing’s model number, claimed Bluetooth version and result on your reader. This is especially important because the same “PageTurner Ring” wording can refer to different products.
Battery and charging trade-offs
Tappy charges through USB-C and is marketed by BOOX as long-lasting, but the cited product information does not provide a runtime, standby figure or battery-cycle rating. Do not convert that marketing description into a specific number of days or pages.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
The cited ring listings provide more numerical battery detail, but only for those listings: one claims a 25 mAh ring battery and a 250 mAh charging case; another lists roughly 1.5 hours of charging. Neither listing establishes how many page turns, days or charge cycles those figures deliver. A charging case can be convenient, yet it also adds another battery to keep charged and another component that can fail or be misplaced.
For either design, charge before a long reading session and confirm that the indicator shows charging. If the remote connects intermittently, test it while fully charged and close to the reader before blaming wireless range.
Price, availability and value
The BOOX Official Store’s 2026 listing gives Tappy a US$25.99 price. TechRadar reported prices of $25.99, €29.99 and AU$49 in its June 12, 2026 hands-on coverage. These figures are region-specific listings, not a promise of today’s price or stock.
There is no single PageTurner Ring price because the name covers marketplace products. Compare the complete delivered cost, charging case, spare clips, return policy and seller support rather than looking only at the lowest headline price. A cheaper ring that cannot send page commands to your reader is not a less expensive solution.
Decision guide: choose by your priority
| Your priority | More sensible starting point | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| You own a supported BOOX model and want the clearest compatibility basis | Tappy | BOOX names supported devices and the firmware V4.2-or-later requirement. |
| You want a finger-worn controller for one-handed or bedside use | An exact-model ring listing | The ring form may reduce reaching, but compatibility must be verified for the specific listing. |
| You mainly use Kindle or Kobo | Neither should be assumed compatible | TechRadar found Tappy did not turn pages on a Kobo Libra Colour and was not detected by three Kindle devices; ring claims are seller-specific. |
| You need audio controls as well as reading controls | Tappy, if your BOOX setup is supported | BOOX documents Multimedia mode and previous/next track commands. |
| You want a charging case | A ring listing that explicitly includes one | The cited ring listing includes a 250 mAh case claim; Tappy’s cited specifications mention USB-C charging but not a case. |
| You want a universal remote for several readers | Neither without testing | Bluetooth profiles and app command handling vary by ecosystem, so no universal winner is established. |
Is Tappy worth it compared with a ring?
Tappy is worth considering when the main device is a BOOX reader covered by BOOX’s compatibility statement and you value a documented product identity over the smallest or most wearable design. Its price is clear in the cited US listing, its dimensions and modes are published, and BOOX provides a firmware threshold you can check.
A ring can be worth the uncertainty when finger-worn control is the feature you care about most, particularly for a fixed bedside setup. Accept the extra verification work: identify the exact model, confirm the seller’s return terms, and test page commands in your chosen app immediately.
For Kindle, Kobo or mixed-device households, neither purchase should be made on Bluetooth branding alone. Tappy’s independent results show that even a named accessory can pair without turning pages or fail to appear at all. A ring’s broader seller claims do not remove that ecosystem risk.

The available information supports a cautious, device-specific recommendation, not a universal ranking. There is no published controlled head-to-head test of Tappy against a PageTurner Ring, and no authoritative industry-wide statistic for failure rates, battery cycles or market share. Tappy has stronger documentation because one manufacturer publishes its requirements; that is different from proving that it works with every BOOX model or every reading app.
The most defensible conclusion is therefore conditional: start with Tappy for a qualifying BOOX device; consider a ring for its wearable form only after checking the exact listing; and treat page-turn performance as something to verify on the target reader and app, not something guaranteed by the Bluetooth label.
