BOOX Tappy is a tiny Bluetooth page-turner made primarily for supported BOOX ePaper readers. Its retro, typewriter-like body, two replaceable keycaps and quiet clicking buttons make it more distinctive than ordinary remotes. The US price is $25.99, but the purchase only makes sense if your BOOX model, firmware and reading app support its commands. Testing reported by TechRadar found that it did not turn pages on a Kobo Libra Colour, while three Kindle devices did not detect it.
What BOOX Tappy does
Tappy lets you control reading without touching the screen. BOOX says the accessory can flip pages or scroll “without ever shifting your grip or reaching for the screen.” It is intended for a reader placed on a desk, stand or bedside mount, where repeatedly reaching for the display is inconvenient.
The official product listing identifies three operating modes:
- Reading Mode: page interaction on compatible BOOX reading apps and devices.
- Browsing Mode: scrolling through content.
- Multimedia Mode: media controls rather than page navigation.
The distinction matters because a Bluetooth connection alone does not guarantee page turning. A host can interpret Tappy’s buttons as volume, scrolling or another system command.

Design, size and physical controls
Tappy measures 43 × 37 × 25 mm and weighs approximately 29 g, according to the BOOX store. TechRadar describes a retro typewriter-like shape with two round buttons, a small indicator light and a USB-C charging port. The reviewer found the clicks satisfying and quiet; those are subjective observations, not laboratory noise measurements.
Two spare keycaps are included. They allow you to replace the original caps if they wear out or if you prefer a different look. The compact body is small enough to hold beside a reader or attach to a bedside setup without adding much weight.

Compatibility: the question to answer before buying
BOOX officially lists the Note Air5 C, Palma 2 Pro and other BOOX devices with firmware V4.2 or later and Bluetooth support. “Other” does not mean every BOOX model: the exact reader, firmware build and reading application determine whether the buttons perform page turns.

TechRadar also reports successful Bluetooth 5.4 pairing and an approximate 10 m range. The reviewer used all three modes with an Android phone, but the default reading mode controlled volume instead of pages. Behavior therefore depends on the host’s input mapping and the app in use.

How to check compatibility before purchasing
- Identify the exact reader model. Do not rely on a product family name alone; write down the model shown in the reader’s device information.
- Check the firmware. BOOX’s stated requirement is V4.2 or later, together with Bluetooth support.
- Confirm the reading app. A compatible reader can still interpret button presses differently across apps.
- Look for a return option. This is especially important for older BOOX models and any non-BOOX reader, because successful pairing may still produce volume or scroll commands.
- Test each mode after pairing. Check page forward, page back, scrolling and media behavior rather than assuming the default mode is correct.
Charging and everyday use
Tappy charges through USB-C and has an indicator light. BOOX says the battery supports weeks of use on one charge, although the company does not state a runtime test condition or a precise number of weeks. The small wireless body is suited to hands-free reading in bed, on a stand or at a desk, provided the reader and app recognize its commands.
The approximate 10 m range reported by TechRadar is enough for ordinary bedside or desk placement, but wireless range varies with obstacles and radio interference. Keep the reader and Tappy within practical line-of-use distance rather than treating 10 m as a guaranteed indoor result.

The BOOX store lists Tappy at US$25.99. TechRadar reports regional pricing of $25.99, €29.99 and AU$49 in 2026; availability and local tax can change. The price buys a specialized accessory, not a universal e-reader remote.

Is BOOX Tappy worth $25.99?
For a BOOX owner with a listed or confirmed compatible model, Tappy’s value comes from convenience and physical design: two quiet buttons, a tiny 29 g body, replaceable caps and weeks-long battery claims. It is particularly useful when the reader is mounted out of reach or when touching an ePaper screen would disturb your grip.

For Kindle or Kobo owners, the evidence does not support buying Tappy for page turning. A Kobo Libra Colour paired without turning pages, and three Kindle devices failed to detect it. Non-reader Bluetooth hosts may accept it only as a volume or scroll controller. In those cases, a purpose-built remote confirmed for your exact device is the safer choice.
Bottom line
BOOX Tappy is a charming, compact page-turner rather than a universal e-reader accessory. Buy it when you have a Bluetooth-equipped BOOX device running firmware V4.2 or later and have confirmed that your reading app maps its buttons to pages. Treat Kindle and Kobo support as unproven or unsuitable, despite successful pairing on some devices.
