Verdict: The BOOX Note Air6 C is a 10.3-inch colour ePaper notebook that makes the strongest case for itself when your work depends on highlighted documents, diagrams, charts, comics or handwritten colour notes. Its Android 16 software, Google Play access, expandable storage and included Pen3 are unusually flexible for an ePaper device. The trade-off is fundamental: colour mode renders at 150 ppi, half the monochrome mode’s 300 ppi, and ePaper still cannot match an LCD tablet for fluid scrolling, animation or video.
What the Note Air6 C is designed to do
BOOX positions the Note Air6 C as a reading, handwriting, annotation and knowledge-work device rather than a conventional tablet. Its 10.3-inch Kaleido 3 glass display produces 4,096 colours and is front-lit, with separate warm and cool light controls. That combination is aimed at people who want paper-like viewing with colour information available when it matters.
The colour layer is useful for marking up study material, distinguishing elements in a diagram, reading illustrated documents and viewing colour PDFs. It is not equivalent to an emissive LCD panel: colours are produced by an ePaper display and viewed with reflected light, so contrast, saturation and refresh behaviour are different from a phone or tablet.
Display: colour adds information but reduces text resolution
| Mode | Resolution | Pixel density | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black and white | 2,480 × 1,860 | 300 ppi | Sharper text and line work for ordinary books, documents and notes. |
| Colour | 1,240 × 930 | 150 ppi | Colour highlighting and graphics, with visibly less fine detail than monochrome mode. |
The 150-versus-300-ppi distinction is the key quality compromise. Small black text and thin lines can look softer when colour information is present, while large headings, highlighted passages and diagrams benefit from the extra channels. If your library is mostly novels or text-heavy PDFs, the monochrome mode’s higher density matters more. If you annotate textbooks, presentations or illustrated documents, colour may save more effort than the softness costs.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
BOOX says its Super Refresh (BSR) system can make page turns up to 40 percent faster than the prior generation. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independent measurement. It does not turn ePaper into an LCD: rapid scrolling, animated interfaces and video remain constrained by refresh behaviour.
Hardware and included accessories
| Component | Specification |
|---|---|
| Display | 10.3-inch Kaleido 3 colour ePaper glass, 4,096 colours |
| Processor and memory | Octa-core processor, 6GB RAM |
| Storage | 64GB internal storage plus a microSD card slot |
| Operating system | Android 16 |
| Battery | 3,700mAh |
| Size and weight | Approximately 225 × 192 × 5.8mm and 440g, according to BOOX |
| Input and controls | BOOX Pen3 included; fingerprint power button |
| Audio and voice | Dual speakers and microphone |
| Lighting | Dual-tone warm and cool front light |
The Pen3 makes handwritten notes and annotations part of the basic package rather than an immediate extra purchase. BOOX also sells a magnetic keyboard cover that connects through pogo pins. That is useful for drafting, email and short-form data entry, but the screen’s refresh limits still make the device better suited to deliberate writing than to fast, continuously scrolling work.

Notes, documents and Android apps
Native notes
The Notes app includes Outline, Tag and Search tools for organising a large notebook library. Dual Note places two notes side by side or one above the other, which can help when copying references, comparing pages or keeping a planning sheet visible while writing. Firmware-dependent features can change, so check the current software version before relying on a particular workflow.

That range makes the Air6 C more useful as a work document than a single-purpose ebook reader, especially when colour annotations need to stay alongside the original file.

Google Play and refresh constraints
Android 16 and Google Play access allow third-party reading, note-taking, cloud-storage and productivity apps instead of locking you into one store. App compatibility is not the same as LCD-like performance, however. Static pages and turn-based reading are a good fit; animated feeds, video and interfaces that depend on rapid scrolling can feel less natural because the display must refresh.
How it compares with other device types
| Decision factor | Note Air6 C | Monochrome ePaper notebook | LCD tablet |
|---|---|---|---|
| Colour notes and graphics | Built-in 4,096-colour mode at 150 ppi | Usually limited to grayscale; exact capability varies by model | Full-colour display; model-dependent |
| Black-and-white text | 300 ppi monochrome mode | Often prioritises grayscale text sharpness; exact resolution varies | High-resolution colour panel; exact resolution varies |
| Front-light comfort | Warm/cool front light; non-emissive ePaper | Typically front-lit ePaper; model-dependent | Emissive backlight; model-dependent |
| Handwriting | Pen3 included | Stylus and feel vary by model | Stylus support varies; usually faster refresh |
| Fast scrolling, animation and video | Constrained by ePaper refresh | Constrained by ePaper refresh | Generally the strongest fit |
| Android apps | Android 16 and Google Play | Varies widely; many are closed ecosystems | Usually broad app support; model-dependent |
| Storage expansion | microSD slot | Model-dependent | Model-dependent |
| Battery capacity | 3,700mAh | Not stated; varies by model | Not stated; varies by model |
| Weight and price | Approximately 440g; launch price $579.99 | Varies by model | Varies by model |
This is therefore not a universal tablet replacement. Choose a monochrome e-notebook if maximum text clarity and a simpler reading-and-writing workflow matter more than colour. Choose an LCD tablet if video, games, animation or high-speed web use are central. The Air6 C occupies the middle ground: paper-oriented viewing with colour and Android flexibility.

- Buy it for colour-heavy reading and notes: You regularly mark up diagrams, charts, comics, presentations or colour PDFs and want those workflows on an ePaper screen.
- Buy it for an open ePaper workflow: You need Android 16, Google Play, expandable storage and the ability to combine native BOOX tools with third-party apps.
- Choose monochrome instead: Your priority is the sharpest possible text, long sessions of ordinary ebook reading and minimal visual distraction.
- Choose an LCD tablet instead: You need smooth video, animation, gaming or rapid scrolling more than front-lit paper-like viewing.
What is not established yet
The available specifications do not establish a battery-runtime figure, colour-gamut measurement, stylus-latency result, benchmark score or independent page-turn test. BOOX’s up-to-40-percent BSR improvement is a stated company claim, not a laboratory result. Those omissions matter if you are buying primarily for performance rather than for the display’s colour-and-paper combination.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Note Air6 C make colour text as sharp as black-and-white text?
No. BOOX specifies 150 ppi in colour mode and 300 ppi in monochrome mode, so fine text and line work can look softer with colour enabled.
Can I install ordinary Android apps?
Yes. The tablet runs Android 16 and provides Google Play access, although apps built around rapid scrolling, animation or video remain limited by ePaper refresh behaviour.
Is the keyboard included?
The BOOX Pen3 is included. The magnetic keyboard cover is an optional accessory and connects through pogo pins.
