Bombchu Bowling costs 30 rupees and is available to child Link after Dodongo’s Cavern. Each attempt gives you ten Bombchus to land in the target three times. The possible rewards are a Bomb Bag upgrade, Piece of Heart, 50-rupee Purple Rupee, Bombchus, or Bombs. The complete game has 36 Pieces of Heart, with age, time-of-day, item, and quest requirements varying by location.
Bombchu Bowling: access, rules and prizes
The Bombchu Bowling Alley is the bowling building in Castle Town Market, inside Hyrule Castle Town. It opens after Link completes Dodongo’s Cavern, and only child Link can play. The entry fee is 30 rupees, a figure listed by Zelda Dungeon and GameWith in 2026.
How a round works
- Enter the Bombchu Bowling Alley as child Link.
- Pay the 30-rupee entry fee.
- Use up to ten Bombchus to hit the target three times.
- Collect the prize shown when the round is completed. If the Piece of Heart or Bomb Bag upgrade has already been claimed on that save file, another reward appears instead.
GameWith describes the objective as three successful target hits within ten shots. The target layout changes between stages, so a solution that works in one round may not work in the next.

The three stages

The Piece of Heart is not guaranteed on the first attempt. Keep paying for rounds until it appears as the displayed prize. Because the heart piece and Bomb Bag upgrade are each limited to one claim, later wins come from the repeatable part of the pool.

Preparation and efficient attempts
- Carry at least 30 rupees for every attempt; failed rounds do not refund the entry fee.
- Play as child Link. Adult Link cannot enter the minigame for this reward.
- Watch the stage before releasing a Bombchu. Stage 2 can place the target on the left, center, or right, while stages 1 and 3 combine a center target with moving hazards.
- Use the ten-shot limit as a resource. A miss costs one of the shots needed to reach three successful hits, so wait for a clear lane rather than firing immediately into a spike trap or a Cucco.
How the 36 Pieces of Heart are organized
Thonky’s current checklist records 36 Pieces of Heart in Ocarina of Time. The entries below preserve its conditions and group the locations by region so you can route them efficiently. “Child” and “adult” refer to Link’s age; “day” and “night” are required time states. When a row lists an item, the item is part of the collection method rather than an optional convenience.
Castle Town, Hyrule Field and Lon Lon Ranch

A practical collection route
The fastest route depends on which age and items you currently have, so treating the list as a strict single sweep can create unnecessary backtracking. Use the following decision order instead.

- Collect child-only and child-easiest rewards first. Before becoming adult, handle the Lost Woods songs, Goron Jar, Zora’s Domain torches, Lake Hylia fishing, frog events, Bombchu Bowling, the Castle Town dog, the treasure-chest game, and the child-only Graveyard dig.
- Plant Magic Beans before adult-only visits. The bean locations in Death Mountain Trail, Kakariko Graveyard, Lake Hylia, and Desert Colossus require child preparation and later become adult collection points.
- Group Kakariko objectives. The Graveyard has the grave puzzle, night digging, bean-crate pickup, Dampé’s race, and several age-specific routes. Visiting with the correct time and equipment avoids repeat trips.
- Reserve item-gated areas for the matching equipment. The Golden Scale handles the field grotto and laboratory dive; the Hookshot or Longshot handles Kakariko, Gerudo, and roof routes; Blue Tunic plus Iron Boots handles the deep Zora’s Fountain pickup.
- Use time-of-day requirements deliberately. The dog, Dampé digging, and treasure-chest game require night. Gerudo archery and the Kakariko roof man require day. Change the clock state before making a trip when possible.
Checklist for a complete 36-piece file
Mark a number only after the heart container fragment has actually been collected. The numbered entries above are intentionally unique: Bombchu Bowling is number 14, while the other 35 are overworld, dungeon, minigame, fishing, or NPC rewards. Four Pieces of Heart combine into one full Heart Container, so a complete checklist represents nine additional heart containers beyond the game’s other heart upgrades.

For a clean final sweep, filter the tables by your current age, then by required time and item. That prevents the most common routing errors: attempting adult platforms as child Link, arriving at a night-only reward during the day, or reaching a dive, roof, or bean-stalk location before the needed equipment or child preparation is in place.
