If a Secret is missing from your Boltgun 2 counter, first verify that you are checking the Secret total rather than the separate Purity Seal total. Then repeat the complete trigger-and-pickup sequence, finish the level, and make sure you are using the campaign save rather than a Level Select continuation. Auroch Digital’s current FAQ documents a save-loading bug and other registration issues; unresolved cases should be reported through its official bug form.
Start by identifying the collectible and the correct target
Boltgun 2 tracks mission Secrets and Purity Seals as different collectible categories. Picking up a Seal will not fill a missing Secret slot, and comparing your result with the wrong category can make a completed level look incomplete.
The 2026 iTechGuides collectible list for the “There Is Only War” branch counts 17 Secrets and three Purity Seals. Its level totals are:

These figures apply to that alternate campaign branch. If you are playing a different operation, use that operation’s own collectible list instead of assuming the numbers above apply.

Confirm that the Secret’s trigger was completed
A Secret is not always awarded merely because you entered the room where a guide says it is located. Some hunts require a key, switch, destructible panel, or hidden mechanism before the reward appears. The room can look cleared while the game is still waiting for the final action.
Use the full trigger checklist
- Identify every required interaction, including consoles, keys, wall switches, shootable panels, and doors.
- Perform the actions in the required order; an opened route does not prove that the Secret state was activated.
- Watch for the reward itself, not just access to the compartment or room.
- Collect the item and wait for the on-screen “SECRET DISCOVERED” confirmation.
If the confirmation never appears, leave the area only after checking for an uncollected enhancement or pickup. A counter that remains unchanged after you found the room usually indicates an incomplete trigger sequence or a save-state problem, not a need to search the same empty room indefinitely.

- Use the red key.
- Shoot the high wall switch.
- Enter the compartment that lowers after the switch is hit.
- Collect the green weapon enhancement inside.
- Wait for the second “SECRET DISCOVERED” confirmation.
The second confirmation matters. Seeing one discovery message earlier in the room does not establish that this later Secret has registered. If the compartment is open but the enhancement was not collected, or if the second message did not display, the counter can remain one short.
Replay a missed Secret so the campaign record is committed
When a pickup was missed or failed to register, replay the specific level rather than restarting the whole campaign. The collectible must be collected again and the level must be completed; simply touching the item during a replay may not update the campaign record.
- Finish or exit the current run so you are back at the game’s menus.
- Open Level Select and choose the exact level containing the missing Secret.
- Repeat the complete trigger sequence, collect the reward, and wait for “SECRET DISCOVERED.”
- Continue through the level’s end and allow the results to save. Do not quit immediately after taking the item.
- Return to the campaign’s collectible or mission record and verify the Secret total.
Completing the level after the pickup is the important commit step. A replay that ends in an early quit, death without a saved result, or menu change can leave the campaign record unchanged even though the item appeared on screen.

Prevent the Level Select and Continue save trap
Auroch Digital’s FAQ, marked “Known Bugs and Fixes – Updated 16th October 2026,” describes a specific save-loading problem. After entering a mission through Level Select, pressing Continue can load the last Level Select save instead of the campaign save. In that state, a correct pickup may be written to the wrong context or appear not to persist.

- After completing the replay, quit to the main menu instead of selecting Continue.
- Open Load Level and choose the campaign save you were using before the Level Select run.
- Check the mission record from that campaign context.
- If the wrong state still loads, fully restart the game and repeat the campaign-save load.
The restart is a workaround reported in the FAQ, not a guarantee that every affected save will recover. The key distinction is the save context: Level Select is useful for reaching a missed mission, while the campaign save is where the completed result needs to be confirmed.
Diagnose the result before repeating the hunt

This diagnosis separates an execution mistake from a persistence failure. Repeating the same room without checking the message, completion state, and save source will not distinguish those causes.

Current known issues and what is still uncertain
Auroch Digital says, “No launch is perfect, and we have seen a couple of bugs cropping up via our bug report form and in the Steam forums.” The Level Select/Continue problem is the clearest issue relevant to Secret registration. The same FAQ also lists a final-purge issue in “The Trenches” and says a hotfix is planned.
Hotfix availability and the exact behavior of a bug can change with updates. Check the FAQ’s current date and wording before relying on a patch-status claim. The documented guidance does not establish that every missing Secret is caused by one universal bug, and it cannot determine whether an individual save is corrupted without that save, the platform, build number, and a reproducible example.
Report a Secret that remains missing
If the Secret still fails after the full trigger, confirmed pickup message, level completion, and campaign-save load, report it rather than repeatedly grinding the mission. Auroch Digital’s FAQ directs players to its official bug-report form and also lists Discord and email contact routes.

Include enough information for the team to reproduce the state:
- Platform and game version or build number.
- Campaign branch, level name, and the Secret route you followed.
- Whether the item appeared and whether “SECRET DISCOVERED” displayed once or twice where applicable.
- Whether you entered through campaign flow or Level Select.
- Whether you completed the level afterward and which save you loaded from the menu.
- A short video or screenshots showing the pickup and the unchanged counter, if available.
The official FAQ describes its form as the route for bugs encountered in the full version of Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 and for feedback. Providing the save context and exact sequence is more useful than reporting only that the counter is missing one.
