Short answer: Blur advertises a 0% marketplace fee and is designed around fast, active trading. OpenSea publishes collection-specific fee information, creator-earnings rules, and a broader set of user and developer tools. Neither source establishes a universal liquidity winner. The cheaper or more executable venue depends on the exact collection, chain, order type, creator settings, and network conditions at the moment you trade.
Compare the complete transaction—not just the marketplace percentage. Your real cost can include creator earnings, blockchain gas, payment-processor charges, and other third-party fees. For liquidity, compare live listings, bids, completed sales, and price depth for the same collection and time window on both platforms.
Blur and OpenSea at a glance
| Question | Blur | OpenSea |
|---|---|---|
| Marketplace fee claim or documentation | Blur’s homepage advertises 0% marketplace fees. This is a platform claim and does not mean every order has zero total cost. | OpenSea’s developer fee guide shows a 2.5% marketplace fee in an example collection. The guide says developers should retrieve the applicable fee details for the individual collection and order. |
| Creator earnings | The official material available here does not explain Blur’s current creator-fee mechanics in enough detail for a complete like-for-like comparison. | Creator earnings can be optional or enforced. Enforcement depends on collection-contract compatibility and setup. OpenSea says its platform setting allows a maximum of 10%; that is a limit, not a typical universal rate. |
| Liquidity | No independently audited marketplace-wide comparison is established. Blur displays collection-level floor and volume information. | No marketplace-wide ranking is established. Liquidity must be checked for the specific collection, chain, and time period. |
| Trading emphasis | Listing, bidding, multi-marketplace sweeping, portfolio analytics, and faster sweeping are central advertised features. | Listings, offers, drops, programmatic buying and selling, wallet and portfolio data, APIs, SDKs, and real-time event streams are described in OpenSea’s developer materials. |
| Best fit to investigate first | Active traders who need collection bids, rapid execution, and sweep-oriented workflows. | Traders and developers who need broad marketplace, collection, wallet, portfolio, or API functionality. |
The table describes documented features and claims, not a guarantee that one venue will be best for your next order. Marketplace interfaces, collection settings, inventory, and fees can change.
How NFT marketplace fees really work
A marketplace fee is only one line in an NFT trade. Before approving an order, separate the costs into four categories:
#1 Best Overall
- Effortlessly build your crypto portfolio via the all in one Ledger Wallet app: buy, sell, send, receive, swap, stake and more across popular blockchains. 15,000+ coins & tokens in a single dashboard. Keep a close eye on the market. Compare service providers. Track performance. Get timely alerts. Build your portfolio with confidence.
- Enjoy Bluetooth connectivity, iOS access, and hours of battery use with this mobile-first, secure backup signer. Freedom you can depend on.
- Genuine Check: confirm your signer is authentic during setup with the Ledger Wallet app.
- Protect your signer: keep it in mint condition at all times with a bespoke Pod or Case to avoid scratches and everyday wear and tear.
- Marketplace fee: the platform’s charge for facilitating the transaction.
- Creator earnings: an amount routed to the creator or collection when the order and contract rules require it.
- Blockchain transaction costs: gas for approvals, order fulfillment, transfers, cancellations, or other on-chain actions.
- Payment and third-party charges: fees from payment processors or other services involved in a transaction.
OpenSea’s terms explicitly distinguish platform fees from creator earnings, blockchain fees, and payment-processor or other third-party charges. A screen showing “0% marketplace fee” therefore cannot by itself establish a zero-cost purchase.
Blur’s 0% marketplace-fee claim
Blur’s homepage advertises “0%” marketplace fees. Treat that as Blur’s stated marketplace-rate claim, not as a promise that every order costs nothing. Creator earnings, gas, and any applicable third-party charges may still apply. The official material available for this comparison does not provide enough detail to state Blur’s current creator-fee policy for every collection or order type, so inspect the transaction’s displayed terms before signing.
OpenSea’s example fee is not a universal schedule
OpenSea’s developer documentation explains that applicable marketplace and creator fees are represented in orders and recommends retrieving fee information for the particular collection. The guide illustrates the mechanism with a 2.5% OpenSea marketplace fee and a 5% creator fee. Those numbers belong to the example collection in the guide; they are not a current universal rate for every OpenSea listing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsOpenSea’s help documentation says creator earnings may be optional or enforced. Whether enforcement works depends on the collection’s contract compatibility and configuration. The documented maximum creator-earnings percentage that can be set on OpenSea is 10%. That is a platform setting ceiling, not evidence that collections normally charge 10%.

An illustrative total-cost calculation
Suppose an example order has a 1,000-unit sale price and uses the fee-guide example of 2.5% marketplace fee plus 5% creator fee. The marketplace and creator portions would total 75 units before gas or other charges. If the same order also requires a 20-unit network transaction, the outlay becomes 1,095 units. This arithmetic is illustrative only: the actual collection’s order data, creator setting, network, and gas market determine the result.
| Cost component | How to check it | Why it can differ between orders |
|---|---|---|
| Marketplace fee | Read the order breakdown immediately before signing. | Platform policy, order type, collection, or promotional terms may change. |
| Creator earnings | Inspect the collection and the specific order for optional or enforced earnings. | Contract compatibility and collection configuration determine enforcement. |
| Gas | Review the wallet’s transaction prompt and the selected blockchain. | Network congestion, transaction complexity, and chain pricing vary over time. |
| Payment or third-party fees | Check the checkout or payment-provider disclosure. | Payment method and intermediary can add separate charges. |
Liquidity: why there is no universal winner
The available official sources do not establish that Blur or OpenSea has greater overall current liquidity. Liquidity is not a single marketplace-wide score: it changes by collection, chain, rarity, order type, and time. A platform can have the lowest visible floor while offering little inventory beyond that one item, or it can show many listings that attract few executable bids.
Blur displays collection-level floor and volume information and promotes sweeping across marketplaces. Those displays are useful discovery signals, but the homepage does not provide an independently audited, controlled comparison proving that Blur is more liquid than OpenSea. OpenSea’s documentation likewise does not establish a universal liquidity ranking.

- Choose the exact collection and chain you intend to trade.
- Record the visible floor price on both venues at nearly the same time.
- Count live listings and group them into price bands, such as within 1%, 5%, and 10% of the floor.
- Inspect the bid side: highest bid, number of active bids, and the price distribution below the top bid.
- Review recent completed sales, noting timestamps and whether sales are concentrated in a few items.
- Estimate execution impact for your intended size. Buying several items should be compared with the combined cost of the cheapest available listings, not just the first floor listing.
- Repeat the check shortly before signing because inventory and bids can change in minutes.
| Liquidity signal | What it tells you | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|
| Floor price | The cheapest visible listing at that instant. | Assuming one listing proves a large order can fill near the same price. |
| Listings near floor | How much supply is available within your acceptable premium. | Counting stale, invalid, or unavailable orders as executable inventory. |
| Highest bid and bid depth | Potential exit price and demand below it. | Comparing a collection-wide bid with bids for the exact item or trait. |
| Recent sales | Evidence that trades are actually clearing and at what prices. | Using old sales during a fast-moving market. |
| Price impact | How far the market moves when your order consumes multiple listings. | Quoting the floor as the expected average fill. |
Collection-specific liquidity questions
Ask whether your NFT is a common item or a rare trait, whether you need an immediate sale or can wait for a bid, and whether the venue’s orders are native to the chain you hold. A collection may be active on both platforms but have materially different depth for a particular rarity. Compare like with like: the same token, chain, currency, and order duration.

Blur’s tools for active traders
Listings, bids, and sweeping
Blur’s homepage promotes direct listing and bidding workflows, along with sweeping across marketplaces. A sweep lets a trader purchase multiple qualifying items in one strategy rather than manually opening each listing. Before approving a sweep, verify that every selected order belongs to the intended collection and chain, that the total includes creator and network costs, and that no item has disappeared or repriced between selection and signing.
Portfolio analytics
Blur advertises portfolio analytics for monitoring holdings and activity. Analytics can help organize inventory and evaluate exposure, but a displayed valuation is not the same as an executable bid. For an exit decision, compare the portfolio figure with current bids and recent completed sales.
Speed claims
Blur uses the headline “THE FASTEST NFT MARKETPLACE” and states that sweeping is “10x” faster. These are promotional claims from Blur. The sources available here do not include an independent benchmark that verifies the comparison, so treat speed as a feature to test in your own workflow rather than a measured guarantee.

Listings, offers, and drops
OpenSea’s developer platform describes listings, offers, drops, and programmatic buying and selling. For a manual trader, the practical distinction is between accepting a listed price and evaluating an offer that may have different expiration, item, currency, and fee terms. Read the exact order before signing; a collection’s creator-earnings treatment can differ between order types.

Wallet and portfolio data
OpenSea documents wallet and portfolio data alongside trading functionality. Portfolio views are useful for locating holdings and tracking activity, but they do not guarantee that an NFT can be sold at the displayed estimate. Check executable bids and current listings when calculating a realizable value.
APIs, SDKs, and event streams
For developers, OpenSea lists APIs, software development kits, and real-time event streams in addition to trading tools. This breadth can support monitoring, automation, and data pipelines. The documentation describes platform capabilities; it does not establish that every function appears in identical form in every consumer interface or is available for every chain and collection.
Chain and collection compatibility
Fees and liquidity are meaningful only on the chain and collection you actually use. Confirm that the marketplace supports the chain holding your NFT, the currency in your wallet, and the order type you want. A nominally lower fee is irrelevant if moving assets to a different chain adds bridge risk, extra gas, or delays.

A practical Blur-versus-OpenSea workflow
- Define the trade: write down the collection, token or trait, chain, quantity, target price, and whether you are buying, selling, bidding, or sweeping.
- Open both marketplaces: use the official interfaces and check that the collection contract matches your records.
- Capture the market: note floor, near-floor listing depth, highest bid, bid depth, and recent sales at the same time.
- Inspect order economics: expand the fee breakdown. Record marketplace fee, creator earnings, gas estimate, and any payment or third-party charge.
- Model execution: for multiple items, add each order’s price and fees and account for the next price level after the cheapest listing is consumed.
- Check approvals: review the wallet prompt, spender or contract, network, token amount, and total value. Reject a prompt that does not match your intended action.
- Sign only after verification: once the collection, token, fees, and destination are correct, approve the transaction and monitor its status on the relevant chain.
- Recheck after execution: confirm the NFT or proceeds arrived, and record the final gas and settlement details for your own accounting.

Frequent sweepers
Start with Blur if rapid, multi-item execution and marketplace sweeping are central to your strategy. Its advertised tools are aimed at active traders, but evaluate the actual depth and total cost for your collection instead of relying on the speed headline.

Offer-focused buyers
Compare bid depth on both platforms and favor the venue with the strongest executable demand for the exact collection and chain. A large number of listings does not help if bids are thin and far below your target.
Creators and royalty-sensitive traders
Inspect creator-earnings treatment on every order. On OpenSea, determine whether earnings are optional or enforced for the collection and whether the contract is compatible. Do not assume Blur’s 0% marketplace claim resolves creator payments.
Developers and automated traders
OpenSea’s documented APIs, SDKs, and real-time event streams may be relevant when you need programmatic monitoring or execution. Confirm current access, rate limits, supported chains, and the exact order data before building automation.

Choose based on the specific collection’s available inventory, total checkout cost, and a wallet flow you can verify. The platform with the lower headline fee may not be cheaper after creator earnings and gas.
Wallet and transaction safety
A wallet is required to interact with NFT marketplaces. Marketplace pages can prepare transactions, but your wallet is where approvals and signatures are presented. Never treat a marketplace interface—or any wallet—as eliminating transaction risk.
- Use the official marketplace domain and verify the collection contract through a trusted record.
- Read every wallet prompt, including network, spender, token, quantity, and amount.
- Keep gas funds on the correct chain and avoid signing unexpected approval requests.
- Use a separate trading wallet for active experimentation and keep long-term holdings isolated where practical.
- Revoke or review old token approvals according to your security process, especially after interacting with unfamiliar contracts.
Platform figures and what they do—and do not—prove
When accessed on October 13, 2026, Blur’s homepage displayed platform-published figures of $7.4 billion total GMV, 324,966 users, and 700 million BLUR distributed across Seasons 1 and 2. The homepage did not specify a clear measurement period for the GMV or user figure. These numbers should be attributed to Blur and treated as marketing or platform-reported metrics, not independently verified market statistics. They do not establish current liquidity for the collection you plan to trade.
Bottom line for NFT traders
Blur is the more obviously trading-focused choice on its advertised feature set: 0% marketplace fees, bids, sweeping, portfolio analytics, and speed-oriented workflows. OpenSea offers detailed fee and creator-earnings documentation plus broad marketplace, wallet, portfolio, and developer capabilities. The correct choice is order-specific. Compare the complete fee breakdown and executable depth for the same collection, chain, and time window immediately before you trade; that check matters more than either platform’s headline metric.
