Buy the version for the platform your household already owns and prefers. Bluey’s Quest for the Gold Pen is a single-player, family-oriented exploration and puzzle adventure, and the official listings currently show it on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and Epic Games. US digital storefront snapshots reviewed for this guide list $39.99 for Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation and Xbox, but prices, editions and availability vary by country and can change.
There is no reliable official evidence that Switch 2, PlayStation, Xbox or PC delivers a higher frame rate, resolution, shorter loading time or better image quality than the others. Your most defensible choice is therefore based on ownership, preferred play position, platform features and the price shown in your own store.
What you get in Bluey’s Quest for the Gold Pen
The game tells a new Bluey story written by Bluey creator Joe Brumm. Dad takes the Gold Pen that Bluey needs to finish a drawing, so Bluey and her family set off on an imaginative quest to recover it. The adventure is built around exploration, hidden treasures and playful puzzles rather than competitive multiplayer.

Official descriptions identify nine hand-drawn worlds (also described as nine adventure-filled levels), fully animated cutscenes and several ways to travel through the environments:

PM Studios categorizes the game as an adventure, family-friendly title and platformer. It is single-player. The Nintendo and platform-store descriptions present it as suitable for fans of all ages and family play, but they do not provide an official playtime estimate or a claim that the game supports simultaneous local co-op.
Joe Brumm describes the design goal this way: “Bluey has always been about turning small moments into big adventures. Writing Bluey’s Quest for the Gold Pen and seeing the game come to life has been a lot of fun, and I’m excited for families to play and experience the world of Bluey in a way that only imagination can make possible.”
Where the game is available now
PM Studios’ current game page marks Bluey’s Quest for the Gold Pen as available now and lists Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Epic Games and Steam. The PlayStation Store also lists a PS4 edition. Bluey’s current game page says the title is out now on the App Store, Google Play, PC and console.
The console and PC release date shown by the current listings is May 28, 2026. That supersedes the earlier announcement’s forward-looking language about a later 2026 console release. The mobile launch dates in that earlier announcement were December 11, 2025, for Apple devices and January 10, 2026, for Google Play. Those dates are historical launch information; mobile storefront prices should be checked separately from the console and PC comparison below.

Switch 2: the straightforward choice for a Switch 2 household
The Switch 2 listing is a digital edition with a stated download size of 910 MB. Nintendo documents TV, tabletop and handheld modes, touchscreen support and one-player play. That makes it convenient for a family that moves between a television and portable play without changing ecosystems.

The US Nintendo news listing displayed a regular price of $39.99. Treat that as a US storefront snapshot, not a worldwide or permanent price. Before paying, open the Nintendo eShop account that will own the game and confirm the current price, currency, tax and storage requirement.
What Switch 2 does not prove
The available official information does not include a measured frame rate, resolution, loading-time test or side-by-side image comparison. A Switch 2 label alone is not evidence that this edition looks or runs better than the Switch, PlayStation, Xbox or PC versions. Choose it for compatibility with your household’s hardware and play habits, not for an unverified technical ranking.

Nintendo’s Australian listing describes the Switch version as out now, compatible with Switch 2 and playable in TV, tabletop and handheld modes. It also lists Save Data Cloud support. Nintendo notes that the Switch Lite experience may differ and that additional accessories may be required, so a Lite owner should check the exact control and display setup before purchase.
The US Nintendo listing displayed $39.99. Regional pricing and availability can differ. The Australian page reports an 816 MB file size for both Switch and Switch 2, while the US Switch 2 listing reports 910 MB. Those figures are inconsistent storefront metadata; they do not demonstrate different content, quality or performance. Do not use download size as a reason to select one Nintendo version over another.
PlayStation 5 and PS4: choose the console you already use
The US PlayStation Store lists PS5 and PS4 editions and gives May 28, 2026 as the PS5 release date. The listing shows $39.99 for the US version, identifies offline play and one-player support, and lists English voice with multiple screen languages.

For PS5 owners, PlayStation also lists cloud streaming to PS5 and PS Portal with a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription. That is a subscription-dependent streaming feature, not a requirement to play the game locally. If you are buying for a child or family member who plays offline, the store’s offline-play designation is the relevant detail.

Xbox Series X|S: useful platform entitlements
The US Xbox Store displayed $39.99 and labels the title Xbox Series X|S optimized, Xbox Play Anywhere and handheld optimized. Play Anywhere is the Xbox store’s cross-device entitlement label; confirm how the entitlement applies to your account and devices on the live store page before buying, because account, region and storefront policies can change.
Xbox is the practical pick when the family already owns a Series X or Series S, uses Xbox accounts and controllers, or values the Play Anywhere label. The published listing does not provide a measured frame rate, resolution, loading time or comparison with Switch 2, PlayStation or PC.
PC through Steam or Epic Games
PM Studios lists both Steam and Epic Games as PC platforms. The official source set used for this comparison does not state a verified current PC price, minimum or recommended system requirements, supported frame-rate target or resolution. That means a PC recommendation has one extra checkpoint: open the live store page for the specific storefront and compare its requirements with the computer that will run the game.

Check before buying on PC
- Confirm whether the store page is for the Windows edition you intend to use.
- Read the current minimum and recommended requirements, including operating-system, processor, graphics, memory and storage entries.
- Check the price in the account’s country and currency rather than relying on a different region’s listing.
- Confirm controller support if the player expects a console-style setup.
- Verify that the purchaser’s account, family-sharing arrangement and intended launcher are compatible with the way your household manages games.
Do not fill in missing specifications from another platform. A PC can be the most flexible option for a household that already has suitable hardware, but the supplied official listings do not establish that it is visually or technically better.
Is the Switch 2 version better than the Switch version?
The evidence currently supports compatibility and convenience, not a technical winner. Switch 2 is the natural choice if you own Switch 2 and want the edition listed for that system. Original Switch is the natural choice if that is the Nintendo console already connected to the family’s account and television. The listings reviewed do not publish a comparative resolution, frame rate, loading time or content difference.
The conflicting file-size figures illustrate why caution is necessary: one US Switch 2 listing says 910 MB, while Nintendo Australia reports 816 MB for both Switch and Switch 2. Store metadata can differ by region or listing revision. Neither number proves that one edition contains more content.
Price, editions and regional checks

PM Studios distinguishes physical and digital releases, but the published information reviewed here does not identify every physical platform SKU by region. If you want a boxed copy, verify the exact console, territory, language and retailer listing before ordering rather than assuming that every listed platform has a physical edition.

- Start with ownership. Select the console or computer already available to the player. Buying a second platform for this single-player game is difficult to justify from the published evidence.
- Match the play position. Choose Nintendo if TV, tabletop and handheld modes matter. Choose PlayStation if local offline play on PS5 or PS4 fits the household. Choose Xbox if the Play Anywhere and handheld-optimized labels matter to your account setup. Choose PC if you already have a suitable computer and prefer that ecosystem.
- Check who will play. The game is listed as single-player. If several family members want to play at once, do not assume local co-op or multiplayer support; the official descriptions do not list it.
- Compare the live local price. Open the store on the purchasing account, because the displayed amount can differ from the US figures above and may change after publication.
- Confirm storage and requirements. Nintendo provides file-size figures, but they vary between regional listings. On PC, use the current Steam or Epic page for requirements; on Switch Lite, check Nintendo’s accessory and experience notes.
Purchase paths by platform
Nintendo Switch 2 or Switch
- Open Nintendo eShop on the console or the official store while signed into the account that will own the game.
- Search for Bluey’s Quest for the Gold Pen and select the edition matching your console.
- Check the current price, file size, supported modes and any regional purchase restrictions.
- Complete the purchase, then confirm that the console has enough free storage for the listed download.
PlayStation
- Open PlayStation Store on PS5 or PS4 and search for the title.
- Choose the PS5 or PS4 edition shown for your console.
- Review the price, offline-play designation, language information and any PS Plus Premium streaming note.

Mobile versions and the one-time-unlock announcement
Bluey’s earlier announcement said the game would launch first on Apple’s App Store for iPhone, iPad and Mac on December 11, 2025, followed by Google Play on January 10, 2026, with an optional one-off payment to unlock all levels. Bluey’s current game page now says the title is out on the App Store, Android, PC and console. Because mobile storefront terms and prices are separate from the console listings, check the current mobile store page if a phone, tablet or Mac is the intended device.
Common buying mistakes
- Assuming Switch 2 automatically means better graphics. No official comparison in the available listings establishes a technical advantage.
- Using a US price as a local quote. The $39.99 figures apply to the US storefront snapshots and may not match your currency, tax or sale status.
- Treating file size as a quality score. Nintendo’s 910 MB and 816 MB figures conflict by listing and region; neither proves a content difference.
- Expecting multiplayer. The game is listed as single-player, and the official descriptions do not advertise local or online co-op.
- Buying a physical copy without checking the SKU. Platform-specific physical availability is not established for every region.
- Assuming PC requirements. Use the current Steam or Epic listing rather than borrowing specifications from another version.
- Reading store ratings as benchmarks. A user-rating average is volatile and cannot substitute for controlled cross-platform testing.
Bottom line: which version should you buy?
Choose Nintendo Switch 2 if you already own it and want TV, tabletop and handheld play with touchscreen support. Choose original Switch if that is the Nintendo system your family already uses; it offers the same documented three play modes and is listed as Switch 2 compatible. Choose PS5 or PS4 if PlayStation is your established console and offline play matters. Choose Xbox Series X|S if your account benefits from the Xbox Play Anywhere and handheld-optimized labels. Choose Steam or Epic Games if you already have a suitable PC and prefer that launcher.
For every platform, verify the current local price and edition immediately before purchase. On the evidence available, platform ownership and household preference are stronger buying reasons than claims about graphics or speed.
