A display on a Bluetooth speaker is useful only when it makes a nearby task faster or adds visual value. The four examples covered here fall into three distinct categories: a small touchscreen for playback and album art, a clock-and-alarm display for bedside use, and a pixel-art panel for decoration and entertainment. They are not interchangeable, and none should be judged by the word “display” alone.
Viewing distance is decisive. What Hi-Fi? found the WiiM Sound’s screen clear up close but its text too small to read from across a room. The other products are described by their makers, without a controlled readability or sound-quality comparison. Choose the screen that matches what you want to see, where you will sit, and whether you need information while music is paused.
What a display adds to a Bluetooth speaker
“Speaker with a display” describes several different product designs. A display may be an interactive control panel, a practical information readout, or a visual feature that turns the speaker into room decor. Those jobs affect how useful the product is more than the panel’s mere presence.
Touchscreen control and artwork
A touchscreen can put common actions on the speaker itself instead of requiring a phone. Depending on the implementation, it may show playback controls, source selection, presets, equalizer settings, clock faces, wallpaper and album artwork. This is most useful on a desk, shelf or side table where you can walk up to the speaker and read it. A small panel is not automatically a room-wide interface.

Clock, alarm and environmental information
A clock-style display keeps working when music is off. Time, alarm status, snooze controls, radio information, room temperature and a night light can make a speaker a bedside appliance as well as an audio device. These products are better evaluated by legibility at night and the quality of their alarm features than by album-art support.
Pixel art and visual entertainment
A pixel panel is primarily expressive. It can show animated graphics, custom artwork, photos, lyrics or equalizer-style patterns. That can be worthwhile on a bedroom or gaming desk even when you are not listening closely, but it should not be confused with a high-information touchscreen.

WiiM Sound: a close-up control surface
WiiM Sound is the clearest example of a screen intended to interact with the listening experience. What Hi-Fi? reports that the small display can provide presets, playback options, source selection and equalizer settings. It can also show clock designs, dynamic wallpapers and album artwork. Wallpaper* describes the panel as a 1.8-inch touchscreen for album art, controls, wallpaper and clock faces. The practical trade-off is size. What Hi-Fi?’s reviewer found the display clear when viewed nearby but said its text is too small from a distance. That makes it suitable for a desk, kitchen counter or shelf you can approach, not for checking a track title from the other side of a living room. If your routine involves changing sources or presets without reaching for a phone, the touchscreen has a meaningful advantage; if you mainly want a visible clock, its small text is a poor fit.
Philips TAS3600B/00: a speaker that also behaves like a bedside clock
Philips positions the TAS3600B/00 around everyday information as well as playback. The manufacturer lists a large clock display, time and room-temperature readouts, dual alarms, snooze and a night light. It also lists Bluetooth, USB, TF-card and auxiliary inputs, plus up to 10 hours of play time. Philips says the clock can synchronize with the connected device. This design makes sense when the display must remain useful with music paused. A dual alarm can serve two wake-up times, while snooze and the night light address bedside routines. The display’s value is therefore not dependent on streaming-service artwork. Philips summarizes the concept with the line “Plays your tunes. Tells the time.”

Do not assume the Philips screen offers the same interaction model as a touchscreen speaker. The cited specification describes clock and environmental information, alarms and physical playback connections; it does not establish album-art browsing or on-screen source and equalizer controls.
Divoom Tiivoo-2: the display is part of the room’s look
Divoom describes the Tiivoo-2 as a Bluetooth speaker with a retro pixel display. Its listed visual functions include clock faces, synced photos, scrolling lyrics, EQ-style visuals, animations and user-created pixel art. The same product page lists FM radio, alarm-clock, white-noise and timer functions. These capabilities are manufacturer claims on the Tiivoo-2 product page; no independent usability or audio test is available in the material used here.

A pixel display can provide a changing background, a personalized image or a lyric animation while the speaker sits on a shelf. It is a stronger fit for someone who values visual atmosphere and creative control than for someone who needs a large, instantly legible time display.
Because the panel’s appeal is visual, check how much time you will spend configuring artwork, animations and clock faces. If you will leave one design running, the speaker functions mainly as decor. If you enjoy changing graphics, the display can remain engaging even when the audio is secondary.
JBL Horizon 2 FM: straightforward clock-radio information
The JBL Horizon 2 FM illustrates the simplest useful display category. JBL describes an LCD that shows the time, alarm settings and radio information. That limited scope can be an advantage. A clock-radio display has a clear purpose and does not require you to interpret changing artwork or pixel animations. It is appropriate when the speaker’s main non-audio jobs are showing the current time, confirming an alarm and identifying radio information.
How to choose the right screen for your use
- Define the display job. Choose touchscreen controls if you want on-device playback and album-art information; choose a clock display for alarms and bedside visibility; choose a pixel panel for artwork, animation and customization.
- Measure the real viewing distance. Stand where you normally sit or sleep and consider whether you will walk to the speaker. The WiiM Sound review demonstrates why a screen that is clear nearby may still be impractical across a room. No comparable controlled readability result is established for the other examples.
- Check whether the display matters with music off. A clock, alarm, temperature readout or night light can justify the speaker during quiet periods. Album art and EQ graphics are more valuable while listening or when you want a visual backdrop.
- Separate touch from information. A touchscreen may replace some phone interactions. An LCD or pixel panel may only show status or visuals. Product pages often use “display” for all three, so verify the actual interface before buying.
- Match connections and power to the location. The Philips listing includes Bluetooth, USB, TF-card and auxiliary inputs and claims up to 10 hours of play time. The other cited descriptions do not provide a directly comparable battery figure or complete connection specification, so do not infer parity.
- Check the exact regional model. Features, radio bands, software behavior and availability can vary by country and edition. Confirm the model number and local product page before purchase.
What the display comparison cannot tell you
A screen does not predict bass, clarity, maximum volume or battery performance. The sources here do not contain a controlled sound comparison, standardized battery test or independent readability test for all four products. Manufacturer feature lists establish what each maker says the product can do, while the WiiM Sound distance observation comes from What Hi-Fi?’s review. Treat those evidence types differently.
Connectivity also needs careful interpretation. Bluetooth or Wi-Fi support does not mean a speaker has a screen. JBL’s own comparison of the Authentics 200, 300 and 500 focuses on audio, power or portability and connectivity, but does not identify a display: JBL Authentics product comparison. A wireless speaker can therefore be fully connected yet screen-free.

Bottom line: buy the screen’s job, not the label
For close-up control and album art, WiiM Sound offers the most explicitly interactive approach, with the stated limitation that its text is small at a distance. For bedside information, Philips TAS3600B/00 combines a clock, temperature display, alarms, snooze and night light with several playback inputs. For visual customization, Divoom Tiivoo-2 treats pixel art, photos, lyrics and animations as part of the speaker’s identity. For simple clock-radio status, JBL Horizon 2 FM keeps the display focused on time, alarms and radio information.
Decide first what you need to see, then check viewing distance, controls, connections and regional specifications. That process is more reliable than assuming every Bluetooth speaker with a display offers the same kind of screen.
