The best Bluetooth gaming headset is not necessarily the one with the newest Bluetooth version. For competitive or timing-sensitive games, the important question is which connection carries game audio: a dedicated 2.4 GHz link, ordinary Bluetooth, or a Bluetooth game mode with a stated delay. A headset that combines 2.4 GHz for the console or PC with Bluetooth for your phone can be more practical than a Bluetooth-only model.

Use the comparison below as a feature guide, not a laboratory ranking. The listed battery and latency figures are manufacturer claims made under stated conditions; the available specifications do not provide a consistent independent test across these headsets.

What to look for first: the connection carrying game audio

Bluetooth describes a radio connection, not a guaranteed gaming experience. Standard Bluetooth audio can add enough delay to make gunshots, rhythm-game notes, or voice chat feel out of sync. Some headsets advertise a low-latency Bluetooth mode or a newer codec, but the result still depends on the headset, transmitter, operating system, game device, and selected mode.

A dedicated 2.4 GHz USB transmitter is usually designed specifically for gaming. It can provide a more predictable link to a PC or console, while Bluetooth remains available for a phone. That arrangement is different from a headset that sends game audio over Bluetooth alone.

Three connection patterns

  • Bluetooth-only: Convenient for phones, tablets, laptops and devices without a USB port. Confirm whether the headset has a game mode and what delay the manufacturer specifies.
  • 2.4 GHz plus Bluetooth: The dongle handles game audio while Bluetooth handles a phone or second source. Some models support both connections at the same time, allowing calls or alerts without disconnecting from the game.
  • Multi-input: USB, 3.5 mm, 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth provide fallbacks for consoles, handhelds and wired use. Check which inputs work simultaneously and whether a console requires a particular version.

For fast competitive games, prioritize a specified gaming link and platform support. For casual gaming, travel or mobile play, Bluetooth convenience may matter more than the lowest possible delay.

How the individual options differ

Audeze Maxwell: LE Audio and planar-driver emphasis

The Maxwell combines Bluetooth 5.3 LE Audio with 90 mm planar drivers. Audeze publishes a 90-hour battery claim. Its appeal is the hardware and codec support rather than a published, independently verified latency result. Confirm that the phone, computer or adapter you plan to use supports the required LE Audio features; Bluetooth version numbers alone do not guarantee identical codec support on every device.

ASUS ROG Strix Go BT: flexible Bluetooth and wired use

The ROG Strix Go BT includes aptX Adaptive, active noise cancellation and an integrated noise-canceling microphone. ASUS lists compatibility with PC, Nintendo Switch, smart devices and PlayStation 5. Its 3.5 mm connection extends wired use to PlayStation, Xbox and Switch, which is important because Bluetooth support differs among consoles.

ASUS describes aptX Adaptive as delivering low latency and high-resolution audio. That is the manufacturer’s product description, not an independent latency test. Treat the published “up to 45 hours” and “up to five hours from a 15-minute charge” as maximum-use claims under ASUS’s conditions.

Edifier HECATE G2BT: a clearly stated Bluetooth game mode

The HECATE G2BT uses Bluetooth 5.2 and advertises a 40 ms game-mode delay. That number gives you a useful reference for the maker’s intended mode, but it cannot be compared fairly with another product unless both were measured with the same phone or transmitter, codec, game and test method.

Edifier lists approximately 36 hours with lighting disabled and 24 hours with lighting enabled. If you use the headset as a daily wireless pair, decide whether RGB lighting is worth the shorter claimed runtime.

Razer BlackShark V3 Pro: simultaneous links

The BlackShark V3 Pro supports simultaneous 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth, as well as USB and 3.5 mm. This is the relevant design when you want the dongle to carry game sound while a phone remains connected for calls or notifications. Before buying, verify how mixing, microphone routing and volume controls behave on your particular platform; simultaneous connectivity does not mean every source is mixed identically.

Razer’s 70-hour battery figure is a claim, not a standardized endurance result. The actual runtime will vary with connection mode, volume, microphone use and other settings.

Turtle Beach Stealth Pro II: swappable power and model-specific consoles

Turtle Beach announced the Stealth Pro II on April 16, 2026, describing simultaneous 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth, dual 40-hour swappable batteries and separate Xbox and PC/PlayStation versions. The announced launch date was May 17, 2026. Because the Xbox and PC/PlayStation editions are different, check the exact SKU and regional listing before ordering; a connector or licensing assumption from one version may not apply to the other.

Swapping a charged battery can be more useful than a large single-runtime number if you play for long sessions. It also introduces an ownership question: confirm that replacement batteries are available in your region and that the charging arrangement suits your setup.

JBL Quantum 950: dongle gaming with replaceable components

The Quantum 950 uses a low-latency 2.4 GHz dongle, Bluetooth 5.3 and a wired connection. JBL says the microphone, cables, suspension hammock and ear cushions are replaceable, which can extend useful life when a wear item fails instead of forcing a complete headset replacement. Verify matching part numbers and local availability.

JBL claims up to 25 hours per replaceable battery. Treat that as a per-battery maximum under JBL’s conditions, not as a directly comparable figure against a headset with one internal battery.

Compatibility: check the exact platform and SKU

“Works with Bluetooth” is too broad for a buying decision. Make a platform checklist before paying:

  • PC: Check whether the headset uses a USB-A or USB-C dongle, whether Bluetooth is supported natively, and which microphone profile activates during calls.
  • PlayStation: Many consoles do not accept ordinary Bluetooth headset audio directly. A compatible USB transmitter or 3.5 mm controller connection may be required.
  • Xbox: Xbox compatibility is often model-specific. A PC/PlayStation edition should not be assumed to work on Xbox.
  • Nintendo Switch: Bluetooth support and microphone behavior can differ between handheld, docked and wired use. Confirm the manufacturer’s listed mode.
  • Phones and tablets: Check codec and LE Audio support on both the operating system and the handset. A headset may fall back to a different codec than the one advertised.

Download or install the manufacturer’s current firmware and companion application only after confirming that the app supports your operating system. Firmware can change behavior, but it cannot turn an incompatible console edition into the correct one.

Latency, codecs and “gaming mode” explained

Latency is the time between an event in the game and the sound reaching your ears. It includes capture, encoding, wireless transmission, buffering and decoding. Codec names such as aptX Adaptive, LE Audio or a Bluetooth version number describe parts of that chain; they do not establish one universal delay.

A game mode may reduce buffering by trading some range, stability or audio processing. Use it only when the headset and source both support the mode. If a manufacturer publishes a delay, record the conditions and mode with it. Do not treat a 40 ms claim from one product as proof that it is faster than a headset whose maker publishes no number.

When Bluetooth is adequate

  • Turn-based, strategy and many role-playing games where small audio offsets are not critical.
  • Mobile gaming where carrying a dongle is inconvenient.
  • Music, video calls and general listening, where convenience outweighs competitive timing.

When to prefer 2.4 GHz or wired audio

  • Competitive shooters, rhythm games and other timing-sensitive play.
  • Console setups where direct Bluetooth audio is blocked or unsupported.
  • Users who need a predictable microphone path for team chat.

Microphone, comfort and durability checks

Connection type is only one part of a headset purchase. Directional audio, microphone quality, comfort and adjustability are core evaluation criteria identified in mainstream hardware buying guides, and they can matter more than a small codec difference.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Microphone and chat

  • Look for a removable, retractable or replaceable microphone if you also use the headset for music.
  • Check whether Bluetooth call mode changes audio quality or disables a higher-quality game mode.
  • Confirm microphone compatibility over the chosen console connection, not just over PC Bluetooth.

Fit and long-session comfort

  • Check clamp force, headband adjustment and ear-cup depth.
  • Consider glasses, hair, heat and whether the ear cushions can be replaced.
  • Prefer a headset with a return policy that covers fit; comfort cannot be inferred reliably from specifications.

Serviceable parts

Replaceable cushions, cables, microphones, suspension components and batteries can reduce long-term waste and downtime. Confirm that parts are sold separately, match your exact model and are available where you live.

Battery claims: how to compare them honestly

Manufacturers usually publish a maximum or approximate runtime. Lighting, ANC, volume, microphone use, codec, connection type and battery age all affect the result. Edifier’s separate lighting-on and lighting-off figures show why one headline number is incomplete.

  1. Write down whether the claim uses Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz or both.
  2. Check whether lighting, ANC and microphone monitoring are enabled.
  3. Note whether the battery is internal, replaceable or swappable.
  4. Look for charging information such as a quick-charge claim, and verify whether it applies while the headset is in use.
  5. Plan for battery aging; a replaceable pack can be more valuable than a higher first-day maximum.

A practical buying decision

  1. Select the gaming connection. Choose 2.4 GHz or wired audio for latency-sensitive play; choose Bluetooth-only when portability and simplicity dominate.
  2. Identify every device. List your console, PC, phone and handheld, then verify the exact headset edition for each.
  3. Decide whether simultaneous audio matters. If you need calls or alerts while gaming, limit your search to models that explicitly support concurrent 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth.
  4. Set chat requirements. Check microphone routing, mute controls and whether the selected connection supports party chat.
  5. Compare battery conditions. Use the manufacturer’s test conditions, not just the largest number printed in a listing.
  6. Check replaceable parts. Confirm batteries, cushions, cables and microphones before purchase if long-term serviceability matters.
  7. Verify current availability. Prices, stock, firmware and regional model names can change; confirm them at the time of purchase.

Troubleshooting common Bluetooth gaming problems

Audio is delayed

Confirm that the headset is in its game mode, that the source supports the required codec and that no video-player synchronization setting is adding delay. For competitive gaming, switch to the supplied 2.4 GHz dongle or a wired connection if available.

The console cannot find the headset

Check whether the console supports ordinary Bluetooth audio. If not, use the compatible USB transmitter or 3.5 mm connection listed for that console. On Xbox, recheck that you bought the Xbox edition rather than a PC/PlayStation variant.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Phone calls interrupt game audio

Verify that simultaneous connections are supported and that the headset’s app or hardware controls allow mixing. Some designs pause the game source or change microphone profiles when a call starts.

Battery life is shorter than advertised

Disable lighting and ANC temporarily, lower volume, test one wireless mode at a time and compare against the manufacturer’s stated conditions. If a replaceable battery is swollen, damaged or no longer holds charge, stop using it and obtain the correct replacement.

Bottom line

Choose a Bluetooth gaming headset by the connection that carries game audio, not by the Bluetooth version alone. A Bluetooth game mode can suit casual or mobile gaming when its stated delay is acceptable. For competitive play, a dedicated 2.4 GHz link, wired fallback and verified console compatibility are safer priorities. Models with simultaneous 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth are the most flexible when you need game sound and phone audio together, while swappable batteries and replaceable parts can determine how useful the headset remains after its first year.
