There is no single best BlueStacks configuration: performance depends on your PC, Android instance, game, and what else is running. Start by checking that your computer meets BlueStacks’ requirements and that virtualization and graphics drivers are ready. Then adjust performance mode, CPU and memory allocation, and graphics settings in small steps, testing the game after each change.

Check your PC before changing BlueStacks settings

BlueStacks’ system requirements page lists Windows 7 or above, an Intel or AMD processor, at least 4 GB of RAM, 5 GB of free disk space, administrator access, and up-to-date graphics drivers as minimum requirements. Its recommendations include Windows 10 or above, a multi-core CPU with a single-thread benchmark score above 1000, a GPU benchmark score of at least 750, virtualization enabled, 8 GB or more of RAM, SSD or Fusion/Hybrid storage, broadband, and current graphics drivers. These are vendor-published requirements and recommendations, not a guarantee of a particular game’s performance. BlueStacks says Windows 7 and Windows 8 users can use versions 5.21.300 and below; its latest version requires Windows 10 or above. See BlueStacks’ requirements for BlueStacks 5.

If the PC uses a hard drive, checking whether an SSD upgrade is practical may be worthwhile: BlueStacks lists SSD or Fusion/Hybrid storage among its recommendations. Verify the computer’s drive type, interface, and upgradeability first; a drive change is not a guaranteed performance fix.

Enable and verify virtualization

Virtualization is a key prerequisite for the recommended setup. In Windows, open Task Manager and select Performance > CPU; check the Virtualization status. If it is disabled, enabling it usually means changing a setting in the computer’s BIOS or UEFI. The label and steps vary by manufacturer and processor, so follow the computer maker’s instructions. BlueStacks also provides a Windows 11 virtualization guide and a guide to checking whether virtualization is supported and enabled.

BlueStacks says Nougat 32-bit can run without virtualization, though performance may suffer; Nougat 64-bit and Pie 64-bit require it. The company has described virtualization as offering a “5x increase in performance,” but its support article does not specify test conditions or a benchmark method. Treat that as a vendor claim, not a promise of a particular improvement on your computer. BlueStacks Support says it “highly recommend[s] enabling Virtualization to run BlueStacks smoothly and avoid unexpected behavior of the software and its services.”

Choose a performance mode that fits your workload

In BlueStacks 5, open Settings > Performance to choose a mode. BlueStacks’ published guidance connects the mode to available RAM and whether you are running other apps or multiple instances:

Low Memory Systems with 8 GB RAM or less; also suggested for many simultaneous instances Keep host memory available on a limited-RAM PC or when running several instances.
Balanced 8–16 GB RAM when using BlueStacks alongside other applications General multitasking while playing or using an app.
High Performance More than 16 GB RAM during a dedicated gaming session; many other open applications are not recommended Give BlueStacks more of the system’s capacity when it is the main workload.

These are BlueStacks’ recommendations, not rigid thresholds or guarantees. If the PC becomes sluggish outside the emulator, choose a less demanding mode or close other workloads. A change may require restarting BlueStacks to take effect. More detail is available in BlueStacks’ Performance mode instructions.

Adjust CPU cores and memory without starving Windows

Under Settings > Performance, BlueStacks allows you to allocate CPU cores and memory/RAM. The right allocation depends on the app, the host PC, and other running programs. Do not assign every available core or all system memory to BlueStacks: Windows and other applications need resources too. BlueStacks notes that allocating more than one CPU core requires virtualization. If you are changing allocations, start conservatively, make one change at a time, and see whether the game and the rest of the computer remain responsive. Consult BlueStacks’ CPU and RAM allocation guide.

Set graphics and frame rate for the game

Open Settings to review the frame-rate control, high-frame-rate option, VSync, and FPS display. The Graphics settings also include the graphics renderer, interface renderer, ASTC textures, and GPU selection. The available choices vary by Android instance, so favor compatibility and stability over assuming one renderer is universally fastest. Vulkan is available only on Pie, Android 11, and Android 13 instances. Nougat 32-bit and 64-bit instances may offer OpenGL or DirectX and a Compatibility/Performance graphics engine mode. Save changes and restart BlueStacks for graphics changes to take effect. BlueStacks explains the controls in its Settings menu guide and graphics settings guide.

For a stable starting point, use the game’s supported settings and raise the frame-rate target only if the PC can sustain it. If higher frame rates produce stutter, overheating, or instability, reduce the target or test VSync. Turn on the FPS display when you need to observe changes, but compare one setting at a time; a displayed FPS value does not explain every cause of perceived lag.

Troubleshoot when BlueStacks feels slow

Lag can come from several causes, so work through the checks in order rather than assuming one setting is responsible.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Restart BlueStacks and the PC. This clears transient issues and applies settings that require a restart.
  2. Recheck requirements and virtualization. Confirm the PC meets the vendor’s requirements and that Task Manager reports virtualization enabled.
  3. Update graphics drivers and Windows. Install current drivers for the graphics hardware and apply pending Windows updates.
  4. Review mode and allocations. Match performance mode to available RAM and workload; ensure CPU and memory allocations leave resources for Windows.
  5. Free host resources. Close applications you do not need and disable unnecessary startup programs if they consume memory or CPU.
  6. Confirm GPU selection. If the computer has integrated and dedicated graphics, check that BlueStacks is using the intended GPU in its graphics settings.
  7. Check security software and installation health. Antivirus interference or damaged files are among possible causes; use BlueStacks’ guidance rather than disabling protection indiscriminately.

If BlueStacks will not open, its troubleshooting page lists multiple possible causes; the symptom alone does not identify which applies. Follow the BlueStacks launch troubleshooting steps. For persistent problems, use BlueStacks’ support or report process. Its slow-performance troubleshooting guide covers additional checks.
