Bluesky’s official guidance does not establish that the app automatically adds its logo when someone takes a screenshot. It explains how to use Bluesky’s logo, but not how a screenshot showing the mark was created. If you need to add the logo to an image, use Bluesky’s official asset rather than drawing or altering it.
Does Bluesky automatically put its logo on screenshots?
That is not confirmed by the official sources available here. Bluesky’s brand guidelines and asset page explain logo use and provide downloadable files, but neither describes an automatic screenshot watermark or a screenshot-specific rendering feature. So a logo visible in a particular image should not, by itself, be treated as proof that Bluesky added it during capture; its origin is not established by those sources.
Bluesky Safety has separately said that it does not currently take action against accounts sharing Bluesky screenshots with commentary unless the commentary violates its Guidelines. That statement concerns moderation of a particular kind of post, not whether the app puts a logo on screenshots. Bluesky Safety’s statement

Which Bluesky logo should you use?
Bluesky’s Brand Guidelines distinguish the full logo—the butterfly symbol together with the wordmark—from the butterfly used on its own. The full version is the clearer choice when introducing the brand, co-branding, or communicating with an audience that may not recognize the butterfly by itself. The standalone butterfly suits contexts where the symbol is already familiar, and Bluesky also identifies it as an option for a social icon linking to a Bluesky profile.

For a screenshot or other image that needs a Bluesky mark, download an official asset instead of recreating it. The Brand Guidelines link to common logo variants in SVG and PNG; Bluesky recommends SVG for digital use where supported. Choose a version that remains legible against its background.
How to keep the logo accurate and readable
- Use an approved color variant. The guidelines list Blue500 (#0560FF), Neutral0 (#FFFFFF), and Neutral1000 (#000000) among the brand colors. They say not to recolor the logo except with approved black and white variants.
- Preserve the mark. Do not distort, crop, redraw, or otherwise alter the official logo. Follow the clear-space guidance on the guidelines page so nearby elements do not crowd it.
- Choose the version for the context. Use the full logo when viewers need the name; use the butterfly alone only when the symbol will be recognizable.
- Keep co-branding distinct. Bluesky’s guidance says your own brand should be at least as prominent in co-branded placements and that the marks should remain visually separate.

Why the butterfly can matter in an image
A recognizable logo can help identify which platform an image is associated with. That is a practical interpretation of Bluesky’s identity rules, not a measured claim about how viewers respond to screenshots. Bluesky Social PBC identifies the butterfly and wordmark as its marks and cautions against using them as another product’s identity or in a way likely to imply that Bluesky publishes, endorses, or supports that product.
