Bluehost’s WordPress hosting is best suited to people starting a site who value guided setup and bundled tools. Its trade-offs are important: the listed prices rise at renewal, its entry plan includes weekly rather than daily backups and no phone support, and independent performance evidence is limited to one test site observed over a short period. Treat the provider’s traffic figures as estimates, not guarantees.

Bluehost WordPress hosting plans and prices

Bluehost’s US-facing WordPress page, accessed October 7, 2026, lists the following monthly prices for 36-month terms, excluding VAT and GST. The introductory rate applies to the initial term; check checkout for your location and the amount due at renewal.

Plan Introductory price Renewal price Websites NVMe storage Bluehost’s stated traffic estimate Support
Starter $3.99/month $9.99/month 10 10 GB “Ideal for 40K visits/mo” 24/7 chat; phone support not included
Business $6.99/month $13.99/month 50 50 GB “Ideal for 200K visits/mo” Phone support listed
eCommerce Essentials $14.99/month $21.99/month 100 100 GB “Ideal for 400K visits/mo” Phone support listed

All three tiers list a free domain for the first year, SSL, CDN, managed WordPress updates, weekly backups, and a 30-day money-back guarantee. The visit figures are Bluehost’s plan descriptions, not independently verified capacity limits or traffic guarantees. “Managed WordPress” should not be read as evidence that every managed-hosting capability is included at every tier; compare the listed features against what your site needs.

Because the listed introductory rates require a three-year term, consider both the initial commitment and renewal cost in your budget. Also weigh the site and storage limits, backup cadence, support channel, and whether you actually need the ecommerce-oriented tier.

Bluehost’s official page says, “Officially recommended by WordPress.org since 2005.” That is Bluehost’s statement; the page does not attribute it to a named WordPress.org representative.

What independent performance testing found

WPBeginner published its review on August 6, 2026, based on tests performed in July 2026. It installed an identical WordPress site with a default theme and sample content on a custom domain, then used GTmetrix for speed, k6 for stress testing, response-time checks in six global regions, and Uptime Robot for 30 days of uptime monitoring.

  • Largest Contentful Paint: 933 ms on the tested site.
  • Response time: an average of 599 ms across six regions. The test used a US location; WPBeginner reported slower results in South America and Japan.
  • Uptime: 100% during the 30-day monitoring window. This is an observation over that period, not an uptime guarantee.
  • Stress test: the reviewer could not complete a test with 50 virtual users because Bluehost’s Cloudflare integration flagged and blocked the synthetic traffic, even after allow-listing. This is not a successful capacity test.

For context, WPBeginner’s July 2026 test group had a 659 ms median LCP, while its fastest tested provider recorded 358 ms. Those comparisons apply to that reviewer’s test sites and method; they do not establish a result for every site, location, or workload. The results indicate that Bluehost delivered a working site with perfect observed uptime during the test window, but do not establish top-tier speed or performance under high concurrent load.

Who should consider Bluehost, and who should compare alternatives?

Bluehost may fit a new or straightforward site

For a first WordPress site, blog, or small-business presence, Bluehost’s guided setup and bundled essentials may make the initial launch simpler. The Starter tier’s listed site count and storage may be ample for a modest site, provided weekly backups and chat-only support meet your needs and the renewal price fits your budget.

Compare other hosts for demanding workloads

If raw speed, frequent backups, phone support on the entry tier, or dependable evidence for high-traffic ecommerce matters, compare providers using current tests that resemble your site’s workload. Bluehost’s 50-user stress test was blocked, so it does not answer how the service performs under that load. Do not use the plan’s stated monthly visit estimate as a substitute for a capacity test.

How to compare hosting options fairly

There is no universally best host for every WordPress site. TechRadar’s 2026 comparison names Cloudways as its overall managed-hosting pick and SiteGround for small businesses. Those are examples of different editorial use cases, not proof that either is the right choice for every Bluehost customer.

  • Total cost: compare the amount due for the full initial term as well as the renewal rate, and confirm local checkout terms and taxes.
  • Resources: match the number of sites and storage to your current needs and realistic growth, rather than relying on a plan’s traffic estimate alone.
  • Performance evidence: look for tests with disclosed location, duration, setup, and workload. A single-site speed result or uptime window cannot predict every production site.
  • Backups and recovery: compare backup frequency and the restore process with how much recent work your site can afford to lose.
  • Support: check which contact channels are available on the specific tier you would buy.
  • Workload: distinguish a new blog or small business site from an ecommerce store or site expecting substantial traffic growth.
