Choose Squarespace if you want a hosted website builder with templates, hosting, and common business tools managed in one platform. Choose Bluehost if you specifically want to build on WordPress and are comfortable making decisions about the site and its configuration. Neither is the better choice for everyone: the right fit depends on your preferred workflow, required features, and the full cost of the plan you select.
How Bluehost and Squarespace differ
Squarespace packages a hosted website builder and content management system with hosting and security. Its platform also offers tools for commerce, services, scheduling, invoicing, memberships, donations, email campaigns, and analytics. That arrangement can simplify managing a site and related business functions in one place. Squarespace describes its platform and comparison.
Bluehost’s relevant offering is WordPress hosting: you choose hosting, then build and configure a WordPress site. Bluehost also lists separate WooCommerce hosting plans for online stores. This is a comparison between a hosted site-building workflow and a WordPress-hosting workflow—not simply two interchangeable hosting subscriptions. Bluehost’s current plan page lists its WordPress and WooCommerce offerings.

Choose Squarespace for a portfolio or straightforward business site
Squarespace is a natural fit if you want to start from a template, build pages in a hosted editor, and keep hosting and common site tools together. It is worth considering for a portfolio, creative business, or small-business website when its available features match what you need. Squarespace promotes these use cases itself; that positioning is not an independent usability test.

Consider Squarespace for products, services, or appointments
Its comparison page lists product sales, shipping, in-person point-of-sale tools, multichannel selling, scheduling, invoicing, and other business functions. Verify that the exact feature you need is included in the plan you intend to buy, and check any associated fees before committing. Squarespace’s current plan guidance says customers can invoice clients and sell products, content, and memberships on any plan, but you should still confirm how a particular workflow and its fees apply to your account. Choose Bluehost when WordPress is a requirement
If your site must run on WordPress, or you prefer the WordPress approach to building and managing a site, Bluehost offers hosting plans for it. That choice also means considering the WordPress setup and ongoing configuration you are willing to handle. For an online store, compare Bluehost’s separate WooCommerce offering with the specific commerce features and costs available on the Squarespace plan you are considering.
What the published prices do—and do not—tell you
Displayed prices are not a reliable apples-to-apples comparison unless you account for the plan, billing period, introductory term, renewal price, and extras. The providers’ own pages show different promotional figures, so use them as dated offers rather than durable price promises.
| Source and date | Displayed price information | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Squarespace comparison page, accessed October 7, 2026 | Squarespace from $19 per month; Bluehost from $3.99 per month during the first year, then $9.99 per month. | These are the figures on that comparison page, not a like-for-like quote or a guarantee of current checkout pricing. Source. |
| Bluehost homepage, accessed October 7, 2026 | WordPress Starter $4.99/month, Business $7.99/month, High Performance $10.99/month; separate WooCommerce plans start at $15.99/month. | Bluehost identifies the displayed hosting promotion as applying to the first 36-month term. These figures differ from the Bluehost rates on the Squarespace comparison page; do not treat either set as a renewal quote. Source. |
| Bluehost comparison page, data dated December 2025 | Separate comparison prices and plan details. | Bluehost says promotional prices apply to the first term and renewal rates vary by provider and are shown at checkout. Treat this as dated provider material, not a definitive current checkout price. Source. |
Squarespace offers Basic, Core, Plus, and Advanced plans with monthly or annual billing. Annual billing lowers the average monthly cost, and a new custom domain may be included for the first year. Domain prices vary by top-level domain and may change at renewal. Check the live plan and checkout prices for your location and billing cycle. Squarespace pricing.
Before choosing based on a headline rate, add up the costs that apply to your project: the selected plan and billing term, renewal pricing, domain registration or renewal, email, payment processing, transaction fees, and any add-ons. The published pages do not establish a neutral, like-for-like total cost of ownership because the plans bundle different services and features.
How to make the comparison for your project
- Decide whether you require WordPress. If you do, compare Bluehost’s WordPress hosting plans. If not, choose based on the building workflow and features you want.
- List the functions your site must have. Include products, shipping, in-person sales, appointments, memberships, invoicing, contributors, storage, and backups where relevant.
- Check each requirement against the exact plan. Do not assume a feature shown on a provider’s general comparison page is included in every plan.
- Compare the full billing commitment. Confirm the promotional term, renewal rate, billing interval, domain cost, and applicable email or commerce fees at checkout.
- Choose the workflow you can maintain. A bundled hosted editor may reduce configuration choices; a WordPress-hosting route gives you a WordPress site to set up and manage.
Can you move from Bluehost to Squarespace?
Yes, but moving a domain and moving a website are separate tasks. Squarespace explains how to connect a domain registered at Bluehost using DNS records, and how to transfer an eligible domain. Connecting or transferring the domain does not itself move your site content. Squarespace’s Bluehost domain connection guide.
For content, Squarespace says you can save content and products from a Bluehost site when starting a new Squarespace site, or hire a Squarespace Expert for hands-on help. That does not establish that a complete site migration will be automatic or lossless. Review what can be moved for your site and plan for any rebuilding or manual transfer.

What the available evidence cannot settle
The provider pages describe their own products and offers; they do not establish that one service is objectively faster, more reliable, or easier for every user. Squarespace promotes its design and ease-of-use advantages, but those claims are not a controlled head-to-head usability test. Choose according to your requirements and preferred workflow rather than treating promotional language or prices as proof of a universal winner.
