Bluehost’s NVMe 4 plan is the provider’s recommended starting point for most Claude Code VPS workloads, but that recommendation is not backed by independent performance testing. It includes 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM and 100 GB NVMe storage. Bluehost’s smaller NVMe 2 plan has only 2 GB RAM, below the 4 GB minimum stated in the company’s own setup guide. These are self-managed servers: you administer the operating system and software, and you need an Anthropic API key whose usage may cost extra.

This is a review of Bluehost’s published plans, prices and setup terms—not a hands-on test. The U.S. prices and specifications below were listed on Bluehost’s pages accessed October 7, 2026, and may change.

Which Bluehost VPS plan should you choose for Claude Code?

For a typical single-user setup, NVMe 4 is the most defensible starting choice among the listed tiers: it meets Bluehost’s stated 4 GB RAM minimum and is the plan Bluehost marks as recommended. That is a provider recommendation based on its own positioning, not a verified finding that Claude Code runs faster or better on that tier. [Bluehost VPS Hosting; Bluehost Claude Code VPS]

Choose by the resources your projects need, not by the plan’s marketing label. More memory and CPU may be relevant if you expect to run multiple containers, build large projects, or keep several projects active, but the available information does not establish a performance difference or a specific capacity threshold for those workloads.

Plan Listed resources Introductory price and term Renewal price Bluehost’s stated positioning
NVMe 2 1 vCPU, 2 GB DDR5 RAM, 50 GB NVMe $4.69/month for a 24-month term; $112.56 due today $5.69/month Personal sites, light apps and development sandboxes
NVMe 4 2 vCPU, 4 GB DDR5 RAM, 100 GB NVMe $9.49/month for a 24-month term; $227.76 due today $11.99/month Docker, AI agents and growing applications; marked recommended
NVMe 8 4 vCPU, 8 GB DDR5 RAM, 200 GB NVMe $12.99/month for a 24-month term; $311.76 due today $28.99/month Multi-container production and heavy traffic
NVMe 16 8 vCPU, 16 GB DDR5 RAM, 450 GB NVMe $25.99/month for a 24-month term; $623.76 due today $49.99/month Heavy AI workloads, large databases and enterprise stacks

Prices, term totals and resources are Bluehost listings for its U.S. plans accessed October 7, 2026; they are not guaranteed future checkout prices and should not be generalized to other markets. The introductory monthly figure is tied to the 24-month term, while the renewal figure is separate. Verify the current checkout total, renewal rate and plan availability before buying. Why NVMe 2 needs clarification

Bluehost lists 2 GB RAM for NVMe 2, but its SSH installation guide lists 4 GB RAM or more as a Claude Code requirement. On the information Bluehost publishes, NVMe 2 does not meet that stated minimum. Do not assume the smallest tier satisfies the guide; ask Bluehost for clarification or verify the current requirement with Anthropic before choosing it. What the VPS price includes—and what it does not

These are self-managed plans, not a server-administration service. Bluehost says it maintains the hardware, network and virtualization layer; the customer manages the operating system, configurations and applications. The product page lists root SSH and API access, but says cPanel and 24/7 priority support are not included. If you do not want responsibility for server administration, compare managed VPS offerings and confirm exactly which tasks their support covers. [Bluehost VPS Hosting]

Hosting is only one part of the cost. Bluehost’s setup guide says you must supply an Anthropic API key to use Claude Code and that API use may incur charges. Budget for that usage separately; the VPS subscription does not establish a fixed total cost for running Claude Code. In the guide’s example, the API key is not configured automatically. Setup requirements and ongoing administration

Bluehost’s SSH guide, which presents the following as Anthropic-documented requirements, lists Ubuntu 20.04 or later, Debian 10 or later, or Alpine Linux 3.19 or later; an x64 or ARM64 processor; at least 4 GB RAM; and an active internet connection. Treat these as the requirements reported by Bluehost’s guide, rather than an independently verified statement of Anthropic’s current requirements. The guide says Node.js 22 or later is required for installation through npm, but not for the native installer; it reports no minimum CPU-core count or disk-space amount from Anthropic. Bluehost says Claude Code can be selected during purchase and uses an Ubuntu 24.04 image in its setup example. Selecting an image does not remove the customer’s responsibility for the operating system, configuration and installed applications. Anthropic’s setup documentation covers installation and update options, including stable and latest channels; keeping Claude Code current is separate from Bluehost’s infrastructure maintenance. Bandwidth, resource-use terms and server location

Bluehost describes bandwidth as “unmetered” for normal website operation, but its product terms also say customers must comply with its terms and must not exceed 25% or more of system resources for longer than 90 seconds. “Unmetered” should not be read as unlimited permission for every sustained compute workload. Review the applicable terms for your planned use before deploying long-running processes. [Bluehost VPS Hosting; Bluehost Claude Code VPS]

What this review can—and cannot—establish

The listed prices, plan resources, setup instructions and management responsibilities are Bluehost-published information. Bluehost describes NVMe 4 as its recommended starting plan, but no independent benchmark or hands-on test establishes Claude Code responsiveness, build times, uptime, latency, provisioning experience or concurrency on any tier. The specifications can guide a choice based on required memory, CPU and storage; they do not guarantee a particular result for a workload.
