To activate a Blue Yeti for basic use, connect it to your computer by USB, select it as the microphone input in your computer’s sound settings, and verify that your recording app receives audio. Logitech says the Yeti is plug-and-play and needs no driver for basic operation. Blue VO!CE effects are optional and require Logitech G HUB.
Connect the Yeti and select it as your input
- Connect it directly: Plug the Yeti into a USB port on your computer using its USB cable. Logitech recommends a direct USB connection for microphone setup: Logitech’s USB microphone setup instructions.
- Choose it in your computer’s sound settings:
- Windows: Open the Sounds settings, go to the Recording tab, and select the Blue microphone as the input device. Logitech’s setup article uses this route; labels may differ in current Windows versions.
- macOS: Open Sound settings, choose the Input tab, and select the Blue microphone. The Logitech article names macOS 10.10 and later, but that older version listing does not establish the current supported operating-system matrix.
- Set a usable input level: Adjust the computer’s input level and the Yeti’s physical gain control. Avoid setting gain so high that your voice distorts.
- Check the result in your app: Make a short test recording or watch the app’s input meter while speaking. App-specific menus vary, so confirm the microphone within the recording or conferencing app if it has its own audio-device setting.
Once the computer and app use the Yeti as their input, basic USB audio should work without installing Logitech software.
Position the microphone and use its controls
The Yeti is a side-address microphone: speak toward its front face rather than toward the top. Set it upright and aim the front toward your voice. Logitech identifies physical gain and instant mute controls, as well as a headphone output for latency-free monitoring, on its Yeti product page.
- Use the gain control to adjust microphone sensitivity; the right setting depends on your distance and speaking volume.
- Use the mute control when you need to stop transmitting audio.
- If you want to hear computer playback through headphones connected to the microphone, select the Blue microphone as the computer’s output device where appropriate.
The Yeti is a multi-pattern microphone, but the available source information does not establish the pattern names or a universally best choice. Check the selector and manual for your exact model rather than assuming pattern advice applies across every Yeti version.

Enable Blue VO!CE only if you want software processing
Blue VO!CE is not required to activate the microphone. Logitech says its filters and effects are available through free Logitech G HUB software; options described on the Yeti product page include EQ, a limiter, a depopper, and voice effects. Logitech also provides a Blue VO!CE setup FAQ.
First confirm that the computer receives a clean, usable signal from the Yeti. Then install or open G HUB and configure processing if you want it. A preset or effect will not necessarily improve every voice, room, or recording setup.

If Windows does not recognize the Yeti
Logitech’s recognition guidance is Windows-specific. Try these checks in order:

- Connect the microphone to a different USB port.
- Try a different USB cable.
- Connect the Yeti to another computer. If it works there, the issue is more likely related to the original computer or its setup.
- On the original PC, open Device Manager and expand Sound, Video, and Game Controllers. Logitech advises updating other listed drivers—not the Blue Mic driver—using the automatic driver search option.
- If Windows still does not recognize it after you have tested another port, cable, and computer, contact Logitech support.
These steps help narrow down a recognition problem; they do not identify every possible fault. See Logitech’s Windows recognition troubleshooting article for its full instructions.

Choose a stand or mount based on placement, not activation
The desktop stand is sufficient to get started. If you want to move the microphone off the desk or adjust its position, Logitech says the stand can be removed to mount the Yeti on a desktop boom arm such as Compass. A mount is optional, not part of USB activation. Logitech’s microphone category also lists the Radius III shockmount for Yeti and related USB microphones; confirm compatibility with your exact Yeti version before buying.
