Blue Origin says it is building TeraWave, a planned satellite communications network for enterprise, data-center and government customers. The company announced the project on January 21, 2026, with deployment scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2027. The available reporting identifies Lindo St. Angel as TeraWave’s leader, but does not verify that he was a Ring executive.

What is Blue Origin’s TeraWave network?

TeraWave is intended to add a space-based connectivity layer to existing terrestrial networks. Blue Origin describes point-to-point links and enterprise-grade internet access for organizations that need high capacity, symmetrical upload and download speeds, network redundancy, or connectivity in places where diverse fiber routes are too expensive, impractical or slow to build.

The service is designed to scale or relocate as a customer’s requirements change. That positioning makes it different from a consumer broadband announcement: Blue Origin is describing infrastructure for businesses, data centers and government networks rather than a retail service with publicly listed plans or equipment.

Blue Origin’s announcement says TeraWave addresses customers seeking “higher throughput, symmetrical upload/download speeds, more redundancy, and rapid scalability.” Those are company-described goals, not independently measured results.

How the planned constellation will work

Blue Origin says TeraWave will combine low Earth orbit (LEO) and medium Earth orbit (MEO) satellites. The announced architecture contains 5,408 satellites in total:

Component Planned count Connectivity Published peak figure
LEO constellation 5,280 Q/V-band radio-frequency links Up to 144 Gbps to distributed customers
MEO constellation 128 Optical links Up to 6 Tbps
Total 5,408 Combined LEO and MEO system Blue Origin has not published customer-level service guarantees

All figures in the table are Blue Origin’s 2026 projections for the planned system. They should not be read as measured throughput, a promised speed tier or proof of availability at a particular location. Actual performance would depend on satellite deployment, ground infrastructure, terminals, spectrum, network load and regulatory approvals.

Who is leading TeraWave?

Specialist publication Via Satellite identifies Lindo St. Angel as TeraWave’s leader. It describes his Amazon career as approximately 15 years, including work as vice president of hardware at Amazon Lab126, the company’s consumer-device development group.

The reviewed reporting does not identify St. Angel as a Ring executive. It also does not establish that the person described in the headline as an “Amazon Ring exec” is the same person leading TeraWave. Until a reliable source confirms a Ring role, that part of the headline remains unresolved. The supported description is an Amazon hardware executive with Lab126 experience who is leading Blue Origin’s TeraWave project.

When will TeraWave launch?

Blue Origin says deployment will begin in the fourth quarter of 2027. That is a planned start date, not a statement that commercial service will be available worldwide then. The announcement does not establish a completed constellation, customer activation schedule, geographic coverage, pricing or consumer hardware sales.

Blue Origin’s service information presents an inquiry-based business offering. The available material does not state current service availability, a retail terminal model, recurring prices or an authorized reseller program.

How TeraWave differs from Amazon Leo

Amazon Leo is a separate Amazon LEO satellite network, not TeraWave equipment or a rebranded version of the same service. Amazon describes Leo as a network of more than 3,000 satellites connected by optical links and ground gateways. Its customer antenna family includes Leo Nano, Leo Pro and Leo Ultra, and Amazon says full-scale deployment began in April 2025.

Via Satellite says TeraWave could compete with Amazon Leo for some enterprise customers. That is potential market overlap, not evidence that the two networks have identical customers, pricing, coverage or performance. Their published plans can be compared as follows:

Because these are unlike company specifications rather than results from a common test, the table cannot determine which service is faster, cheaper or better for a particular organization. Buyers would need confirmed coverage, terminal specifications, service-level commitments, installation requirements and pricing from each provider.

What remains unknown

  • Whether the individual described in the headline worked for Ring and, if so, in what role.
  • Exactly when TeraWave customers could activate service after satellite deployment begins.
  • Initial coverage regions and the countries where the service will be licensed.
  • Terminal designs, installation costs, subscription pricing and service-level agreements.
  • Whether the announced throughput figures will translate into per-customer speeds or shared network capacity.

For now, TeraWave is best understood as an announced Blue Origin enterprise-network program. Its multi-orbit design and stated focus on redundancy and symmetrical connectivity make it strategically notable, while the 2027 schedule and performance numbers remain plans awaiting deployment and independent verification.
