If you mean Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, you can shape its combat around stealth, close-range fighting, or firearms, and tailor a replay with Custom Difficulty. Paradox describes Custom Difficulty as including options that are “effectively cheats,” but the official material cited here does not establish console commands or entered cheat codes. The game discussed below is the 2025 release—not the separate 2004 Bloodlines.
First, make sure you have the right Vampire: The Masquerade game
The title “Vampire: The Masquerade” covers more than one game. The current strategy information here is for Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, released in 2025. The official announcement lists Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and describes alternating player perspectives for Phyre and Fabien. See the official game announcement and platform details.
Do not apply these tips to the 2004 Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines. Its controls, patches, mechanics, and any cheat commands are a separate matter.
Are there cheat codes for Bloodlines 2?
Paradox describes some Custom Difficulty options as “effectively cheats,” but that means adjustable gameplay rules, not a verified command console. The official pages cited here do not establish console-command strings, trainers, exploits, or platform-specific cheat codes. Avoid treating a custom ruleset as a code you enter.
#1 Best Overall
Choose a playstyle that fits the encounter
The developer presents stealth and surprise, direct brawling, and narrative- or exploration-focused play as supported approaches. No single approach is presented as universally best; choose based on how much action, setup, and risk you want.
Stealth and surprise
Use concealment and surprise to create time to choose a Discipline power or prepare an encounter. The creative director describes distracting enemies, feeding before a fight, and hit-and-run tactics as intended options. These are approaches to try, not a promise that every encounter can be cleared without detection. Read the developer’s combat diary.
Close-range combat
Brujah are especially suited to close combat, but the developer says every clan can brawl: “Any Clan can brawl but this is where the Brujah shine.” Pick Brujah if that emphasis suits you; it is not a requirement for melee-focused play. The Spring Update added equipable melee weapons, including bats, knives, swords, hammers, and batons. See the Spring Update details.

Firearms
Guns offer a direct option, but they draw attention and consume ammunition. Precision Aim slows time while targeting, which can help when a deliberate shot matters. Dual-wielding two of the same firearm increases damage per second but uses ammunition faster. In public, holster your weapon: loud firearms and aiming at passers-by can cause panic and unwanted police attention.
Holster controls listed in the Summer Update are Tab on keyboard, Y on Xbox, and Triangle on PlayStation DualSense. Read the Summer Update details.
How to handle melee fights
The Spring Update added guard, which reduces melee damage while Phyre is not attacking or performing another combat action. It also warns that being surrounded is dangerous and says evasion remains the best defense in that situation.
Rank #3
- Blood sustains you and empowers your vampiric Disciplines. You’ll stalk and feed on the city’s population at night. Use your supernatural powers or raw persuasion on unsuspecting mortals to lure them into dark alleys and slake your Hunger.
- Enter the World of Darkness and rise through vampire society or rail against it. Experience Seattle - a city full of alluring, dangerous characters and factions, not to mention the mortals at stake in the clash of powers beyond their knowing.
- Hunt your way through a modern-night Seattle on the brink of an open supernatural war in Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, where visceral vampire action meets a neo-noir murder mystery. Navigate the vampire Court of Seattle and its dark underbelly in this action RPG, realized by the BAFTA award-winning studio The Chinese Room.
- Avoid being boxed in. If enemies surround you, prioritize evasion rather than relying on guard.
- Guard against an approaching melee strike. Guard reduces incoming melee damage while you are not attacking or using a combat action.
- Reposition or counter when you have an opening. This is a practical way to apply the guard and evasion mechanics, not a quoted developer sequence.
The update also added 17 codex collectibles that teach advanced combat techniques. If you want more guidance in the game itself, look for those tutorials.
Set Custom Difficulty before starting a replay
Custom Difficulty unlocks after you complete the game on any difficulty as any clan and earn “An Elder Unchained.” You choose it from New Game; it cannot be changed during a playthrough. Plan the settings before you begin. See Paradox’s Custom Difficulty explanation.
Reduce friction
Options can make a run more forgiving through increased elixir capacity or starting health, reduced enemy damage, passive ability recharge, or lower enemy awareness. Masquerade sensitivity can also be lowered or disabled. Paradox says disabling it allows free vampire-like action across the city; treat that as an optional rule setting, not a cheat code.
Increase the challenge
You can instead tighten resources, increase damage pressure, make enemies more alert, or use Iron Vamp rules. The settings let you tune survivability, enemy behavior, Masquerade pressure, and the kind of challenge you want. Choose them before the run because they are not mid-game switches.
Quick Recap
Pick the approach by the kind of run you want
- For cautious play: use stealth, distraction, and surprise to create opportunities before committing to a fight.
- For a melee-focused run: any clan can brawl; Brujah are the developer-highlighted close-combat fit. Use guard against melee attacks and evade when surrounded.
- For ranged pressure: Precision Aim slows time while targeting, while dual-wielding the same firearm trades faster ammunition use for higher damage per second. Holster in public.
- For an easier replay: Custom Difficulty can loosen resource, health, damage, recharge, or awareness rules.
- For a harder replay: use harsher damage or resource settings, higher enemy awareness, or Iron Vamp rules.
