Bloodcurse is the strongest general boss-damage pick in the consulted ranking; Stasis is the better alternative when you need control and safer openings. That is a guide-based recommendation, not a result from controlled boss testing. The infusion ranking was updated August 31, 2026, while a separate build guide was updated September 8, 2026. Check that the advice still matches your game’s patch before investing in a build.

Which status infusion should you choose for a boss?

Start with the problem you need to solve, not a universal “best” label. For faster health-bar damage, the ranking favors Bloodcurse on a quick-attacking weapon. For more time to dodge, reposition, or punish, it favors Stasis. The other effects have narrower strengths or more situational application routes.

The table reflects the consulted guide’s editorial tiers, not a reproducible damage test. Stack counts are not directly comparable across effects: what a stack does and how reliably a weapon applies it both matter.

Tier Infusion Cited pairing Best use and trade-off
S Bloodcurse Axe and Dagger + Duality Stone General boss burst. Quick attacks build toward a health-removing burst; faster application is the key advantage.
S Stasis Axatana + Torpor Stone; Genessa synergy Boss control and longer, safer openings. Some encounters resist or ignore it, and the guide does not identify which ones.
A Lightning Axatana + Voltaic Crown; Proxima synergy Groups and area pressure, with useful single-target damage.
A Frost Great Martyr’s Blade + Eredrim Control and follow-up damage when its narrower application route suits the build.
B Curse Accursed Stone + Sariel Specialist crowd setup. Sariel’s duration and shared-damage abilities raise its potential.
B Phantom Salvaged Trebuchaxe + Monarch’s Vestige Delayed splash and stagger at range; charging can be risky.
C Burn Veteran’s Battle Axe + Inflamed Clawstone Exploration against weaker enemies; comparatively weak general boss pressure.
C Poison Tiel + Serpent Stone Specialist Tiel setup that turns stacks into active burst; weak passive damage outside that setup.
D Trauma Hammer + Wretchcaller’s Stone Slow Break Damage route with limited application options.

Why do Bloodcurse and Stasis lead the boss ranking?

Bloodcurse: choose burst and fast application

The ranking puts Bloodcurse first for general boss damage because it rewards applications with a burst that removes health. A fast weapon can build toward that payoff more reliably than a slow one during short attack openings. The guide’s main pairing is Axe and Dagger with Duality Stone; it also identifies Clockwork Scythe as a specialist multi-hit option.

#1 Best Overall
Mortal Shell II - PlayStation 5
  • THEIR FLESH IS YOUR WEAPON: The corpses of exceptional warriors are scattered throughout Mortal Shell 2’s destroyed world. Once discovered, each warrior can be possessed, awakening their innate strengths and mastered abilities. Evolve your own style of combat by harnessing the unique abilities of each warrior and unlock their secrets through the discovery of lost memories.
  • CLEANSE A RAVAGED WORLD: Mortal Shell 2’s compact open world connects over winding footpaths guarded by desperate and fanatical adversaries. Players who wander are rewarded with new warriors to possess, additional story elements, powerful and strange weaponry, upgrades, curiosities and more. Step through derelict temples of ancient deities, across forbidden forests and icy graves, into citadels carved out of bone. Scattered between these lost landmarks are more than 60 dungeons, each providing a challenging test of the talents and weaponry you have collected on your journey.
  • DETHRONE FALSE GODS: You control the Harbinger, a being that must reclaim the Undermether’s stolen eggs that are now ruthlessly guarded by grotesque, dangerous creatures. Mortal Shell 2’s combat system is agile and expressive. Stamina gauges are removed, and execution options have been enhanced, delivering a kinetic and chaotic dark power fantasy. Precision meets intensity in high-stakes combat.

Use this route when your priority is damage and you can consistently land attacks. A weapon’s hit pattern is part of the build: a slow swing may fail to build an effect quickly enough before the opening closes.

Stasis: choose control and safer punish windows

Stasis slows enemies as it stacks, which can make dodging, positioning, and backstabs safer and create longer openings. The cited pairing is Axatana with Torpor Stone, with Genessa synergy. It is a sensible alternative when a boss is difficult to read or punish, rather than a guaranteed answer for every encounter.

The guide says a few encounters resist or ignore Stasis but does not name them. Do not assume a particular boss is affected—or immune—without checking in your own fight.

When are the other infusions worth building around?

Lightning for groups and area pressure

Lightning ranks A for chained area pressure and useful single-target damage. The guide pairs it with Axatana and Voltaic Crown, and notes Proxima synergy. It is the clearest alternative when a build needs to handle groups as well as a main target.

Rank #3
Arcade1Up MORTAL COMBAT II Classic SE (Slim Edition)
  • Retro-Gaming Cabinet Slim Size, Officially Licensed MIDWAY

  • 13 games included (Mortal Kombat/MK II/MK 3/Ultimate MK3/ Paperboy/Rampage/Bubbles/Joust/Wizard of Wor/Gauntle/Rootbeer Tapper/Defender/Clax)

Frost for control with Eredrim

Frost also ranks A. Its cited pairing is Great Martyr’s Blade with Eredrim, where control and follow-up damage can make it worthwhile. Its application route is narrower, so choose it for a compatible build rather than assuming it outperforms the S-tier choices in every boss fight.

Curse for a Sariel-centered crowd setup

Curse is a B-tier specialist option. The guide’s Accursed Stone and Sariel pairing benefits from Sariel’s duration and shared-damage abilities, which raise the setup’s ceiling. That synergy is the reason to consider it; the tier is not a claim that Curse is a stronger general boss pick.

Phantom for ranged splash and stagger

Phantom ranks B and pairs Salvaged Trebuchaxe with Monarch’s Vestige. Its delayed splash and stagger can help at range, but the charge time can leave you exposed. It suits situations where you can safely set up the shot better than close, fast boss openings.

Burn for weaker enemies during exploration

Burn ranks C with Veteran’s Battle Axe and Inflamed Clawstone. The guide presents it as an exploration option against weaker ordinary enemies, not as a strong general boss-pressure choice.

Poison for a specific Tiel burst loop

Poison also ranks C. Its value depends on the Tiel and Serpent Stone setup that turns stacks into active burst; the guide describes passive damage elsewhere as weak. Treat it as a build-specific interaction rather than a broadly effective status.

Trauma for a slow Break Damage route

Trauma ranks D with Hammer and Wretchcaller’s Stone. The guide’s concern is its slow Break Damage route and limited application options, which make it a harder general recommendation.

How should you assemble a status build?

Think in terms of a repeatable combat loop, not a collection of individually strong-looking items. The September 8, 2026 build guide frames its recommendations as scenario packages, not universal damage proofs. For a chosen status, make sure the weapon can apply it during your real openings and that the rest of the setup supports the same combat problem.

  1. Choose the problem: boss burst, safer control, group pressure, or exploration against weaker enemies.
  2. Select a compatible weapon and application pattern: favor quick or multi-hit attacks when the effect needs repeated applications; account for the risk of slower attacks or charge time.
  3. Choose a Shell and supporting pieces: use the cited synergies where relevant—Proxima with Lightning, Eredrim with Frost, Sariel with Curse, or Tiel with Poison.
  4. Complete the loop: consider the Shell, primary weapon, sidearm, seal, items, compatible Tarstones, and investment order together. The referenced build guide treats all of these as parts of a scenario-specific package.
  5. Test against the intended fight: keep difficulty settings consistent and judge whether the loop solves the problem you chose. A setup for groups is not automatically the best setup for one boss.

How much should patch changes affect your choice?

Version context matters. The weapon reference, checked September 3, 2026, labels its information as a Week 1 Update community report and discusses adjustments affecting heavy weapons, the Hammer, Great Martyr’s Blade, the Trebuchaxe, and Axatana. A September update thread also reports a change allowing status effects to apply while an enemy recovers from a riposte. That patch information comes from a community repost, so confirm current behavior against live official patch notes before committing resources.

The official Mortal Shell II website describes combat as unrestricted by stamina and says players can use multiple tactics to break enemy posture and strike critically. That broad combat description does not establish that one infusion wins every matchup. The consulted ranking and build guidance do not provide controlled, reproducible boss-by-boss infusion tests or exact comparative damage figures.
