Bloodborne runs on PS5 as a PS4 game; playing it on Steam Deck means streaming it from a PlayStation with the third-party chiaki-ng client, not running a native Steam Deck version. That adds installation and network steps, and stream quality varies with the game and connection. Choose direct PS5 play for the simpler setup; choose the Deck route if handheld play matters enough to justify configuring Remote Play.
Does Bloodborne work on PS5 and Steam Deck?
Sony lists Bloodborne as a PS4 title released March 24, 2015, and says it is playable on PS5. Sony cautions that updated system software may be needed and that some PS4 features may be absent. Sony’s Bloodborne page provides that compatibility information. The PlayStation Store listing identifies the PS4 version and says Remote Play is supported: Bloodborne on the PlayStation Store.
For Steam Deck, the documented route is to stream the PlayStation version from a PS5 using chiaki-ng. The PS5 runs the game; the Deck receives the video and sends controller input over the network. The sources establish no native Steam Deck version. chiaki-ng is third-party software, not an official Sony Steam Deck Remote Play app. Its setup documentation is at chiaki-ng documentation.
Performance: local PS5 play versus a streamed Deck session
Playing on a PS5 display means the console runs the game locally. With a Deck, the same console remains the host, but the handheld experience depends on the Remote Play stream and its network path. That distinction adds network dependence; it does not establish that either option has a particular frame rate or input delay.

- 1TB NVMe SSD
- 1280 x 800 HDR OLED display with premium anti-glare etched glass, 7.4" Diagonal display size up to 90Hz refresh rate
- Wi-Fi 6E
- 50Whr battery; 3-12 hours of gameplay (content-dependent)
- Carrying case with removable liner
The available sources do not provide a controlled frame-rate, latency, or battery-life comparison for Bloodborne streamed to Steam Deck from PS5. Sony says Remote Play quality varies by network environment and game. Accordingly, claims such as “locked 60 fps,” “zero lag,” or that the Deck route performs better are not supported by the cited information. Treat Sony’s connection figures as guidance, not a guarantee of a specific result on a Deck.
Setup, portability, and controls compared
| Factor | Play on PS5 | Steam Deck through chiaki-ng |
|---|---|---|
| Where the game runs | Locally on the PS5 | On the PS5; the Deck receives a Remote Play stream |
| Setup | Use the PS5 and display; Sony notes updated system software may be needed for compatibility | Enable Remote Play, install chiaki-ng, register the PlayStation, test the connection, and optionally add the client to Game Mode |
| Network dependence | No Remote Play stream is involved when playing at the console | Requires a network connection between the console and Deck; stream quality varies with the game and network |
| Where you play | At the console and its display | On the handheld where its connection to the console supports Remote Play |
| Controls | Use a controller connected to the PS5 | Deck controls can be mapped; chiaki-ng also documents DualSense support, but an extra controller is optional |
For home streaming, chiaki-ng recommends connecting the PlayStation to the router by Ethernet and the Deck over Wi-Fi. Its guide says the default home-network configuration depends on the local router rather than the public internet connection. This is distinct from Sony’s general Remote Play internet-speed guidance.

How to set up PS5 Remote Play on Steam Deck
- Enable Remote Play on the PS5. If you want the console to wake remotely from rest mode, enable the relevant network settings for rest mode as well.
- Install chiaki-ng on the Deck. Use Desktop Mode and follow the project’s Steam Deck installation instructions.
- Register the PlayStation and test the connection. Follow chiaki-ng’s registration instructions, then confirm the stream works before adding the client to Game Mode.
- Add chiaki-ng to Game Mode if you want a console-style launcher. This is optional; the project documentation covers the process.
- Optimize the home connection. Use Ethernet for the PlayStation and Wi-Fi for the Deck where practical, as chiaki-ng recommends.
For Remote Play generally, Sony’s support guidance specifies a minimum of 5 Mbps upload and download and recommends 15 Mbps upload and download for best performance. These are Sony’s recommendations, not a Deck-specific guarantee. Sony’s Remote Play connection troubleshooting page advises checking connectivity, pausing other downloads, and trying 5GHz Wi-Fi. It also says Remote Play may not work with NAT Type 3.

Which option should you choose?
- Choose direct PS5 play if you want to avoid configuring a third-party client and a streaming connection.
- Choose Steam Deck streaming if handheld play is the priority and you are comfortable installing and registering chiaki-ng and relying on a suitable network connection.
- Set expectations around compatibility labels. Valve’s Deck Verified categories assess Steam games for input, display, seamlessness, and system support. Valve defines Verified as working great out of the box, but that label is not a measurement of chiaki-ng streaming and should not be read as a rating for this setup. See Valve’s Steam Deck Verified program.
