On macOS 26, the simplest way to block someone in FaceTime or Messages is to open Apple menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security > Blocked Contacts, click Add, select the person, then scroll down and click Block Contact. You can also block a caller or sender directly inside FaceTime or Messages when the call or conversation is open.
How do I block someone on FaceTime on my Mac?
Use FaceTime’s blocked list if you want to act from the app or block a specific number or email address.
- Open FaceTime and choose FaceTime > Settings > Blocked.
- Click Add, then choose the contact’s email address or phone number.
If the unwanted call appears in your call history, Control-click it and choose Block This Caller. If the caller is not in Contacts, Apple says to add them to Contacts first, then block them.

A blocked FaceTime call is not answered, and you are not notified when the person calls. To remove a block from FaceTime, open FaceTime > Settings > Blocked, select the number or email address, and click Remove. Apple’s FaceTime instructions

How do I block someone in Messages on Mac?
- In Messages, select the conversation with the person or number.
- Choose Conversation > Block Person, then confirm by clicking Block.
Messages from that person or number are not delivered, and the sender is not told that you blocked them. On macOS 26, use System Settings > Privacy & Security > Blocked Contacts to review or remove the block. Apple’s Messages instructions

How do I unblock someone on Mac?
On macOS 26, open Apple menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security > Blocked Contacts, select the person, and click Remove. Removing them there restores contact across the listed Apple apps and devices signed in to the same Apple Account.

What blocking does—and does not—change
- Group conversations remain: Blocking someone does not remove you from a group conversation. You will not see messages from the blocked person in the group, but they will still see your messages. Apple’s group conversation guidance
- Check all contact details: A person may use more than one phone number or email address. If messages or calls still arrive from another detail, add that specific number or address to the blocked list. Apple’s advice on multiple contact details
Why don’t these settings match my Mac?
The menu path depends on your macOS version. Apple’s current safety guide directs macOS 26 users to the centralized System Settings > Privacy & Security > Blocked Contacts panel. On macOS 15 or earlier, manage blocks in each app: FaceTime > Settings (or Preferences) > Blocked, and Messages > Settings (or Preferences) > iMessage > Blocked.
