If you want to move files between devices without uploading them to Google Drive first, Blip is one option to consider. Its free Community plan is for non-commercial use, and it offers apps for Windows, Mac, Android, iPhone and iPad, and Linux. Blip is a transfer tool, not a substitute for automatic backup or continuous sync.
What Blip does—and what it does not
Blip is designed to send files between your devices or to other people. In an article dated August 30, 2026, Akshay Bhalla describes using it across Android, Windows, Mac, and iPad, with devices appearing in the app after signing in. That is his account of his setup, not a guarantee that every device pairing will work the same way.
A file transfer is a handoff: you choose files and send them. Backup and synchronization solve different problems, such as keeping copies updated automatically or restoring older files. Blip is positioned as a transfer service, so do not rely on it alone for those ongoing protections.
How Blip sends files
Blip says it connects devices directly over a local network or the internet whenever possible. Its security page, updated June 16, 2026, states: “Whenever possible, Blip connects devices directly, either over your local network or the internet.” If a direct connection is unavailable, Blip says the transfer goes through its encrypted relay network; it would therefore be inaccurate to say files never pass through a server.

- Security & Warranty: Securely protects files using an advanced security software solution with 256-bit AES encryption. Backed by a Lexar 3-year limited warranty
Blip also says transfers use end-to-end encryption through a mutually authenticated connection (mTLS over TLS 1.3). These are the vendor’s descriptions of its system, not findings from an independent security audit.
Is Blip free, and can you use it for work?
Blip’s pricing page lists Community as free for hobbyists, students, and non-profits, with non-commercial use as the boundary. For professional or commercial use, the page lists Business at $25 per user per month when billed annually ($300 per user per year), or $30 per user per month on monthly billing. Prices and terms can change, so check the current plan details before signing up.

USB 3.0 port required. Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device, usage conditions, and other factors; 1MB=1,000,000 bytes]
- Transfer a full-length movie in less than 30 seconds(2) [(2) Based on 1.2GB MPEG-4 video transfer with USB 3.0 host device. Results may vary based on host device, file attributes and other factors]

That distinction matters if you transfer files for a business or as part of paid work: “free” does not mean unrestricted commercial use.
Which platforms does Blip support?
Blip lists downloads for Windows, Mac, Android, iPhone and iPad, and Linux. A platform listing establishes availability, not that every combination of sender and receiver will work reliably or offer identical features. Confirm your specific devices and test a small transfer before depending on it for an important handoff.

What to expect from speed and compatibility
Bhalla reports that transfers felt faster than Google Drive in his use, but that is a personal impression, not a controlled comparison. The available product descriptions do not establish a general speed advantage. Results can depend on the devices, network, and whether the transfer uses a direct connection or relay.
He also reports repeated failures when transferring between an Android device and an iPad, and says NAS support was missing when he wrote in August 2026. Those are dated observations from one user, not proof of a current, universal defect or a current compatibility list. Check the latest platform information and verify your own pairing.

When Blip is a sensible choice
- Choose it for an occasional handoff if you want to send files between supported devices and avoid first uploading them to a cloud drive.
- Check the plan boundary if the transfer is connected to professional or commercial work.
- Test your exact device pair before moving a large batch or time-sensitive files.
- Use a separate backup or sync approach if you need automatic copies, version history, or recovery rather than a one-time transfer.
Blip can be a practical alternative for sending files, but neither the platform list nor one user’s experience establishes that it will be faster or more reliable than Google Drive for everyone.
