The Blendtec Total Blender Classic is a strong all-purpose blender on the evidence of RTINGS’ review, particularly for fibrous ingredients and ice. Its main qualification is practical capacity: RTINGS reports a 90-ounce jar but only 36 ounces of blending capacity. The current Blendtec listing describes a six-preset, 1,560-watt model with a two-year warranty, but it does not establish that today’s configuration is identical to every older ES3. If you own an ES3 with a leaking jar, Blendtec says the seal cannot be replaced; check warranty coverage and jar compatibility with the company before ordering.
What the review says about blending performance
RTINGS’ review, published March 20, 2024 and modified October 9, 2024, rates the Total Blender Classic highly for multipurpose use. Its testing found strong results with fibrous ingredients and ice crushing. These are RTINGS’ findings, not hands-on results from this article, and outcomes can vary with the recipe and batch size. Fibrous ingredients and batch size
RTINGS found that a larger batch reduced splashing and sloshing when blending fibrous ingredients. In its test, the Whole Juice preset produced a smoother texture than the Smoothie preset. That does not mean Whole Juice will be preferable for every recipe; it is a useful indication that preset choice and having enough ingredients in the jar can affect results.
Ice
RTINGS reports strong ice-crushing performance. If crushing ice is a regular task, that result is a point in the blender’s favor, though the review does not establish that every load size or ice recipe will behave identically.

How much can you blend at once?
Do not mistake the jar’s nominal volume for the amount you can blend in a typical batch. RTINGS reports a 90-ounce (2,662 ml) WildSide+ jar and a 36-ounce (about 1,065 ml) blending capacity. The 36-ounce figure is the more useful guide when judging practical output; a large-looking jar does not mean you can fill it to its full nominal volume for blending.
RTINGS also reports dimensions of 15.2 inches high by 7.1 inches wide by 7.9 inches deep, and a weight of 7.3 pounds. These measurements can help assess counter or cupboard fit, but allow for space to handle the jar and access the controls.

What the current model offers
Blendtec’s current Total Blender Classic listing specifies a 1,560-watt motor, six preset cycles, ten speeds plus pulse, and an illuminated LCD timer. The listed presets are Smoothie, Batters, Hot Soup, Whole Juice, Ice Cream, and Ice Crush. Blendtec describes the controls as sealed push buttons.
The current listing is titled Total Blender Classic and shows a WildSide+ jar option. It does not establish that this exact configuration matches all older units identified as ES3, so treat these details as the current listing’s specifications rather than guaranteed specifications for every ES3.

Controls, construction, and safety trade-offs
RTINGS’ review reports several practical drawbacks: the jar wobbles on the base, the button covering feels as though it could peel, and the buttons feel mushy. It also reports that the blender has no mechanism to prevent operation without the jar or lid. Those are reviewer observations, not manufacturer specifications, but they matter if you prioritize a firm jar fit, tactile controls, or an interlock.
RTINGS describes the jar as BPA-free plastic and dishwasher-safe, but notes that the manual does not establish that dishwasher guidance and does not specify how to clean the lid. Do not treat the review’s interpretation as official cleaning instructions; check the manual for your specific jar or ask Blendtec before putting components in a dishwasher.

Warranty: check the terms for your unit
Blendtec’s current product listing states a two-year warranty and warns that commercial use voids the warranty. The Classic Series manual dated 2014 describes coverage for the motor base and jar assembly, including moving jar parts, for the warranty period beginning on the purchase date. It lists exclusions including cosmetic damage, abuse or unreasonable use, accidents, tampering, unendorsed accessories, unauthorized service, modifications, and commercial use.

The 2014 manual is not a substitute for the terms that apply to a particular purchase. Warranty coverage can depend on the product, country, purchase channel, and applicable current terms. Confirm the warranty for your own unit with Blendtec or the authorized seller, especially if you bought an older ES3 or purchased it outside the United States.

If an ES3 jar leaks
Blendtec’s official answer to an ES3 owner asking about a jar leaking at the seal says, “The seals are not able to be replaced.” It recommends contacting customer service to check warranty coverage before buying a replacement jar. See the response on Blendtec’s FourSide Jar page.
That response does not prove that every current jar fits every ES3 revision. Give Blendtec your model and serial details and confirm compatibility before ordering. Do not buy a separate replacement seal on the assumption that it can be swapped in.
Who should consider it?
- A good fit: someone looking for a preset-driven, multipurpose blender who values the reported performance with fibrous ingredients and ice and can work within a 36-ounce blending capacity.
- Think carefully: someone who routinely needs larger usable batches, expects a jar interlock, wants firmer-feeling buttons, or is buying an older ES3 and needs certainty about warranty or replacement-jar fit.
- Not for commercial use under the current listing: Blendtec explicitly warns that commercial use voids the stated warranty.
For a new purchase, verify the exact model name, included jar, warranty, and seller rather than assuming a current Total Blender Classic listing describes every ES3. For an existing ES3, confirm warranty and jar compatibility directly with Blendtec before paying for a replacement.
