Blender 5.2.2 LTS is the latest stable long-term-support release listed as of October 7, 2026. It is the sensible starting point for most new installs and production work: Blender says the 5.2 LTS line is supported until July 2028 and recommends the latest LTS or stable release for general use. Check operating-system support and project or add-on compatibility before upgrading an existing setup.

What is the latest version of Blender?

As of October 7, 2026, the latest stable LTS release listed by Blender is Blender 5.2.2 LTS. The 5.2.2 update was released on September 15, 2026, and Blender lists support for the 5.2 LTS line through July 2028. See the Blender release index and Blender 5.2 LTS release page for current release information.

“Latest version” can mean the newest stable release or an experimental build. Experimental builds may contain newer features and fixes, but Blender warns that they are unstable and not recommended for production because they can affect files. For general use, the stable LTS or stable release is the safer choice.

Should you download Blender 5.2.2 LTS?

For a new installation, 5.2.2 LTS is a practical choice if your computer meets the supported platform requirements. Its LTS support window is useful for production work that benefits from a maintained release line. Before updating a working installation, first consider whether your projects, add-ons, and operating system are compatible with Blender 5.2.

  • Choose 5.2.2 LTS for a current stable installation and a release line supported through July 2028.
  • Review before upgrading if a project or add-on depends on a particular Blender version or if the computer is an Intel Mac.
  • Avoid experimental builds for production unless you can accept instability and protect project files.

Blender’s official download page lists builds for Windows, Windows ARM, Apple Silicon macOS, Linux, Steam, and source code. Choose the build that matches your platform; availability of a build does not mean every computer running that operating system is supported.

What’s new in Blender 5.2?

Blender’s release highlights describe 5.2 as adding node-powered physics and online asset libraries, alongside changes across creative workflows. These are official feature highlights, not independent performance-test results.

Audio-driven animation and simulations

Geometry Nodes adds the Sample Sound Frequencies node and a Sound socket, enabling audio-reactive animation and simulations within node workflows.

Other workflow updates

The release also highlights work in Grease Pencil, sculpting, animation, the Video Sequencer, and the interface. Consult the 5.2 LTS release overview for the detailed feature list.

How 5.2 fits with earlier releases

Blender 5.1, released March 17, 2026, focused on refinement, bug fixes, pipeline improvements, performance work in rendering, animation, and the viewport, plus further Geometry Nodes features. Blender 5.0, released November 18, 2025, introduced ACES pipeline support, improved color management and HDR capabilities, new Volume and SDF Geometry Nodes, and a Storyboarding template. The Blender Foundation’s 5.0 announcement reports 588 bugs fixed. See the 5.1 release announcement and 5.0 release announcement.

Is Blender 5.2 compatible with your computer?

Blender runs on major desktop operating systems, but compatibility depends on the platform and hardware. Blender’s system requirements are guidance for supported configurations, not a promise of a particular render speed.

Platform Published minimum Published recommended configuration
Windows and Linux 4-core CPU, 8 GB RAM, 2 GB VRAM 8-core CPU, 32 GB RAM, 8 GB VRAM GPU
macOS Apple Silicon, 8 GB RAM Apple Silicon, 32 GB RAM

These figures come from Blender’s requirements page. Actual suitability depends on the size and complexity of scenes and the work you do. Meeting the recommended configuration does not guarantee a specific rendering time.

What about an Intel Mac?

Blender 5.0 and later require an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 13 (Ventura) or newer. Blender identifies 4.5 LTS as the last release supporting Intel Macs and macOS 11.2 Big Sur. If you use an Intel Mac, check Blender’s requirements and release information before choosing an installer; the current 5.2 line is not the supported path for that hardware.

How to upgrade without disrupting a project

  1. Check the operating system and hardware. Compare the computer with Blender’s published requirements, paying particular attention to the Apple Silicon requirement for Blender 5.0 and later.
  2. Review project and add-on compatibility. Identify version-specific dependencies before opening production files in a newer release.
  3. Protect working files. Keep a separate copy of important projects before testing them with an upgrade; Blender cautions that experimental builds can affect files.
  4. Download the matching stable build. Use the official download page and select the appropriate platform build. Use the release index to locate older releases if your workflow requires one.
  5. Test a copy of the project. Open representative scenes and check the features and add-ons your work relies on before moving an active production to the new version.

Older releases remain available through Blender’s release index. Keeping an older version for a project may be more appropriate than changing a production workflow immediately.
