In ParkEase’s web build, the parking list worked but the map stayed blank because three separate problems blocked it at different layers: the MapLibre worker URL resolved to the wrong response, CSS clipped a zero-height canvas container, and a marker animation overrode MapLibre’s positioning transform. Fixing each layer restored the map; the account also offers a useful lesson in why green tests do not necessarily prove that a map works in a browser.
What happened in ParkEase’s web build?
ParkEase is described as a peer-to-peer parking marketplace for India. In the web build recounted by developer Onkar Deokate, the parking list and surrounding app appeared functional, but the map area was empty. The debugging sequence uncovered three independent failures: worker asset delivery, container layout, and marker animation. Each needed a different fix.
The account was published on October 6, 2026. Its implementation details and test counts are the author’s report, not independently reproduced browser or deployment results. Read the original account on DEV Community.
Why did MapLibre’s worker fail to load?
MapLibre expected to locate its web worker relative to its module. In this Expo web build, the bundler did not provide the module-relative context the library expected, so the computed URL pointed to a worker file that was not present. The development server responded to that unknown path with the application’s HTML instead of JavaScript. The worker consequently failed before it could process map tiles.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Reported fix
Deokate reports explicitly assigning a known worker URL and copying the worker and its imported chunks into the web-served directory during installation. The important diagnostic clue was not merely that the map was blank: the worker request returned HTML where executable worker code was expected.
What to check
- Inspect the worker request in the browser’s network tools and confirm it resolves to the intended asset.
- Check the response body and content type: an application HTML fallback at a worker URL indicates a missing or misrouted asset, not a valid worker.
- Verify the built static output includes the worker and any imported chunks, rather than checking only the development server.
Why did the map remain invisible after the worker issue?
Once the worker problem was addressed, tiles loaded, but the map still appeared blank. The author traced the next failure to an injected overflow: hidden rule on .maplibregl-canvas-container. That container held only absolutely positioned children, leaving it with zero height; clipping then hid the canvas and markers.

Reported fix and regression check
The reported fix was to remove the clipping rule and add a CSS regression test to stop it from returning. When tiles appear to load but nothing is visible, inspect the container’s computed dimensions and overflow behavior as well as the network requests. A successful tile or worker request does not establish that the canvas has a visible area.

Why did all twenty markers gather in one corner?
After the map rendered, the author saw all twenty markers in one corner. MapLibre positioned each marker with transform, while the entrance animation also set transform. The animation overrode the positioning value, so markers lost their individual map locations.

Reported fix and a meaningful browser check
The reported correction animates the individual scale and translate properties instead of replacing transform. To check the behavior in a browser, verify that two seeded markers remain distinct and within the map after the entrance animation, after panning or zooming, and after resizing the map container. The original article’s top comment recommends these checks; it does not establish that they were implemented as tests.
What did the ten reported tests cover?
Deokate says ten tests guard the map after the fixes. The reported breakdown is three CSS checks, four map-startup checks, and three worker-copy checks. These counts describe the author’s implementation; they are not evidence by themselves of full browser interaction or successful production deployment.

In particular, a check that a worker-copy step runs is different from verifying that the built static output contains every needed worker chunk and serves it as JavaScript. Likewise, a CSS regression check is not the same as observing markers through animation, pan and zoom, and container resizing in a real browser. The reported test suite addresses specific failure points, while those browser and build-output checks probe whether the pieces work together.
What is the practical debugging lesson?
A blank map is an outcome, not a diagnosis. Follow the rendering path in layers: establish that the worker loads as JavaScript, confirm that the canvas container has visible dimensions and is not clipped, then check that marker animation preserves MapLibre’s positioning. Add tests for known regressions, but use browser-level interaction and the built output to check behavior that unit or CSS checks may not exercise.

Deokate’s closing advice captures the user-facing side of the same problem: “if a screen can be empty, the empty state has to say why.” The author says ParkEase now displays a visible “map unavailable” state with the reason when worker setup fails, rather than leaving the map area blank.
