Bitcoin rebounded after briefly falling below $81,000 during the Asian session on 13 October 2026, while technology-related futures remained weak. That was a short-term divergence, not proof that Bitcoin had durably decoupled from equity markets: StoneX reported that its rolling 20-session correlations with Nasdaq 100, semiconductor and Kospi futures had strengthened since early October.
What happened to Bitcoin during the Asian session?
In a report published on 13 October 2026, StoneX Market Analyst David Scutt described Bitcoin first dipping below $81,000, near its 50-day moving average, and then reversing sharply. Technology-related futures did not recover alongside it. The report’s account supports a session-level divergence between Bitcoin and those futures; it does not establish why the rebound happened.
Bitcoin’s rebound stalled above $84,000 before BTC/USD fell back below $82,277.67 support. The $83,000 level had briefly stalled price overnight. These were intraday chart references in StoneX’s dated report, not current prices or forecasts. StoneX’s market commentary characterized the move as uncertain. Scutt wrote: “What’s notable is that we haven’t seen a recovery in technology-related stock futures accompany it, putting a question mark over whether the rebound is anything more than a dead-cat bounce.”

Did Bitcoin decouple from Korean stocks and Nasdaq futures?
Not on the evidence in the report. A market can move differently from another over a particular session while still tending to move in the same direction over a longer sample. StoneX reported positive rolling 20-session correlations between Bitcoin and all three futures markets it examined, and said those relationships had strengthened since early October.

- BITCOIN EXCLUSIVE, PHONE VERIFICATION: Bitkey is designed from the ground up exclusively for bitcoin — a dedicated hardware wallet for secure bitcoin storage. Approve transactions with a tap using your phone and NFC. No device screen is required.
- SELF-CUSTODY, NO EXCHANGE OR CUSTODIAN REQUIRED: You hold two of the three keys in the Bitkey system – one on your phone and one on your Bitkey device. The third is stored on Bitkey’s server and cannot move your bitcoin on its own.
- NO SEED PHRASE: Set up and use Bitkey without creating or storing a seed phrase.
- 2-of-3 MULTISIG: Three keys are stored separately across your phone, Bitkey device, and Bitkey’s server. Any two keys are required to move your bitcoin.
- BUILT-IN RECOVERY: Encrypted backup and recovery tools can help you regain access if you lose your phone or Bitkey device. You can also designate a Recovery Contact.

Correlation measures co-movement over a defined period; it does not show that one market caused the other to move. The figures are specific to the report’s rolling 20-session window and observation date, not a permanent relationship or a measure of what happened in that single session.
What the reported price levels do—and do not—show
The technical levels in the report help describe that day’s sequence, but they should not be treated as live trading levels:

All four are dated intraday references from StoneX’s 13 October 2026 snapshot, not current market guidance.

StoneX did not verify a catalyst for the reversal. Its report describes the price action and technical context, but does not establish that Korean investors rotated out of stocks, that institutional flows drove the move, or that a particular macroeconomic event caused it. Those explanations would require separate evidence.

How to judge a claim that Bitcoin is decoupling
To assess a claim of decoupling, identify exactly what is being compared and over what period. A claim about one session’s divergence is different from a claim about longer-term co-movement. For a correlation figure, check the comparison instrument, the window length and the observation date; a change in any of them can change the result.
StoneX’s report is short-term market commentary and cautions that its material may relate to circumstances on a specific day; it is not investment advice. The reported correlations and technical levels describe that dated snapshot rather than a basis for predicting Bitcoin’s next move.
