There is no reliable single “best” exchange in this comparison without checking live prices for the same purchase. Bitcoin.de publishes different fees for different trading routes, while broker-style services may build their charge into the price they quote. The available evidence also does not establish a comparable current coin list across providers. Compare the full cost of a specific euro trade, whether you can withdraw the asset, and who controls its private keys. Provider details below reflect information current to October 9, 2026, and may change.
How do Bitcoin.de’s fees compare with other exchanges?
Bitcoin.de does not have one universal trading fee in the information reviewed. Its fee page lists different percentages for different routes, while its English purchase FAQ describes a separate transaction flow. These figures should not be collapsed into a single headline rate.

Published percentages alone do not tell you which service will cost less for a particular purchase. A broker quote can include its markup in the displayed price; an order-book trade may show an explicit fee while also exposing you to the bid-ask spread. Compare the final execution price and charges for the same asset, euro amount, time, and order type.
Use the same cost checklist for each quote
- Record the amount of crypto you would receive for the same euro spend, or the euros you would receive for the same sale.
- Include the displayed execution price, explicit trading fee or markup, and any spread reflected in the quote.
- Check whether your deposit method has a separate charge.
- If you intend to withdraw, include the withdrawal fee and the network used. Bitcoin.de says withdrawal charges depend on current network fees and may change.
Bitcoin.de says API users may receive a kickback of up to 25%; check the applicable terms rather than assuming it applies to ordinary marketplace trades. Confirm all current fees and the route that applies before placing an order.

What do observed trading costs show—and what can’t they prove?
A TUM-hosted project study reports observed mean round-trip costs—the cost of buying and then selling—across a small set of services. These are study observations, not provider fee schedules or guaranteed costs for a customer today.

The study’s observation date is not stated in the publication details available here, so the figures should not be treated as live prices. The study reports only two observations per asset for Bitpanda, Coinbase, BISON, and Kraken, and describes those per-asset results as illustrative rather than statistically reliable. It also includes only two exchange-model platforms, so it cannot establish a general cost ranking for exchange-model services. Use the figures as evidence that observed execution costs can differ—not as a current “cheapest exchange” list.

Which exchange has the most coins?
A like-for-like, current Germany-specific coin list was not established for Bitcoin.de, Bitpanda, Coinbase, Kraken, Bitvavo, BISON, and other alternatives. On this evidence, it would be misleading to declare a provider the broadest or narrowest choice.

A count may combine spot cryptocurrencies with derivatives, tokenized assets, or products where the customer does not hold the underlying coin. Who holds the crypto, and can you withdraw it?
Buying crypto through a platform does not necessarily mean you control its private keys. While assets remain in a platform account, ask who provides custody, whether the asset can be sent to an external address, which network is supported, and what withdrawal charge is shown. A platform’s ability to custody crypto or its regulatory status does not itself guarantee reimbursement if assets are lost.
Bitcoin.de’s marketplace structure
Bitcoin.de product information describes users buying and selling bitcoin from and to other users, with Bitcoin Deutschland AG identified as an intermediary for FIDOR in the arrangement described there. That description helps explain the marketplace model; it should not be treated as proof of every current custody or legal detail. Check the current product and legal terms for how a particular transaction and any assets held on the service are handled.

Coinbase’s German disclosures
Coinbase Germany says Coinbase Germany GmbH provides crypto custody under BaFin supervision. Its German legal disclosure also says crypto custody is not covered by German deposit-guarantee or investor-compensation schemes. The same disclosure describes euro balances as e-money issued by Coinbase Ireland and says they are not covered by an Irish deposit-protection or investor-compensation scheme. These are distinct statements about crypto custody and euro balances; supervision should not be read as deposit protection.

External wallets and withdrawal checks
A Germany-facing comparison reports external-address withdrawals for Kraken, Bitpanda, Coinbase, Bitvavo, and BISON, with charges varying by coin and network. Treat that as a starting point, not confirmation of current availability. Check the provider’s current withdrawal screen or terms for your specific asset before buying: withdrawal support and networks can differ even within one account. A hardware wallet can be an option for people who want to control their own keys, but self-custody also means responsibility for protecting the keys and recovery information.

How to choose for your use case
- For buying and holding Bitcoin on-platform: compare the final euro-to-Bitcoin quote and understand the platform’s custody terms. A low published trading percentage by itself is not enough.
- For withdrawing to your own wallet: first verify that the exact asset and network can be withdrawn, then include the displayed withdrawal charge in your cost comparison.
- For buying a less common coin: check a current Germany-specific listing and confirm that the product is spot crypto if you want to own and withdraw the underlying asset.
- For frequent or API trading: read the route-specific schedule and eligibility terms, including any stated kickback, instead of applying a consumer purchase-flow fee.
Recheck provider fees, quotes, asset availability, withdrawal networks, and custody terms immediately before trading; they can change, and the figures above do not establish today’s like-for-like execution cost.
