There is no single “best” biometric authentication solution across this list: the products do different jobs. Some help unlock a device or authenticate a workforce login; others verify a remote customer during onboarding or account recovery. Choose by use case and data flow first, then compare features, evidence, integration, and price. The product descriptions and figures below are reported by comparison or vendor-directory sources, not a harmonized test or vendor-confirmed price survey.
First separate biometric login from identity verification
Local biometric authentication uses a fingerprint, face, or another gesture on a device to unlock an authenticator or passkey. Remote identity verification compares a selfie or other biometric reference as part of an online check, often alongside identity-document validation and liveness detection. These are different systems with different data flows; a remote verification platform is not automatically a replacement for a device authenticator.
FIDO2 combines Web Authentication (WebAuthn) with CTAP and supports both embedded authenticators and external security keys. In the FIDO passkey model, each passkey is unique and bound to the service domain; FIDO states that “Biometric information, if used, never leaves the user’s device.” That statement applies to the passkey design, not every product that performs remote face checks. See the FIDO Alliance specifications.
12 biometric authentication options, grouped by job
This is a shortlist, not a verified quality ranking. Entries are drawn from a September 2026 comparison page or a directory updated in July 2026. The sources describe different product classes, so their features and listed prices should not be treated as directly equivalent.
#1 Best Overall
- Target Applications - Desktop PC security, Mobile PCs, Custom applications
- Indoor, home and office use
- Blue LED - soft, cool blue glow fits into any environment; doesn't compete in low light environments
- Small form factor - conserves valuable desk space
- Rugged construction - high-quality metal casing weighted to resist unintentional movement
SDKs and components for builders
| Product | Reported role | Reported price and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Sensory TrulySecure | On-device face, voice, and liveness authentication SDK, according to the September 2026 comparison. | Pricing on request, according to that comparison. |
| Luxand FaceSDK | Cross-platform face-recognition SDK for embedded biometric applications, according to the directory. | $29/month listed by the July 2026 directory; verify current price and terms with the vendor. |
SDKs are building blocks: buyers may need to develop enrollment, recovery, user experience, monitoring, and policy controls around them.
Workforce and access authentication
| Product | Reported role | Reported price and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 1Kosmos BlockID | Enterprise passwordless access with biometrics, FIDO2, identity verification, and integrations, according to the September 2026 comparison. | Pricing on request, according to that comparison. |
| HID DigitalPersona | Biometric and multifactor authentication platform for Windows-centered enterprise access, according to the September 2026 comparison. | Pricing on request, according to that comparison. |
These products are positioned around organizational login and access rather than simply performing a one-time customer identity check.

Remote onboarding and identity verification
| Product | Reported role | Reported price and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| ComplyCube | KYC, AML, and fraud-prevention API for regulated digital businesses, according to the directory. | $99/month listed by the July 2026 directory; current plan, usage limits, geography, and add-ons are not established by that listing. |
| FaceOnLive Identity Verification Software | On-premise verification with liveness and document checks, according to the directory. | $19/month listed by the July 2026 directory; verify scope and deployment terms directly. |
| Incode | AI identity verification and KYC with biometrics, according to the directory. | Contact sales, according to the directory. |
| iDenfy | Automated KYC and AML for fintech, crypto, and gaming, according to the directory. | €1.25 per verification listed by the July 2026 directory; region, minimums, and included checks are not established by that listing. |
| Ondato | Identity and age verification for regulated onboarding, according to the directory. | €0.50–€1.40 per verification listed by the July 2026 directory; included checks and terms are not established by that listing. |
| Sumsub | Identity verification platform with user, business, and transaction monitoring, according to the directory. | $1.35 per verification listed by the July 2026 directory; volume and package assumptions are not established by that listing. |
| Persona | Configurable identity verification workflows, according to the directory. | Starting at $250/month with a 12-month minimum, as listed by the July 2026 directory; verify current terms. |
| Jumio | Enterprise identity verification with fraud prevention, according to the directory. | Contact sales, according to the directory. |
The directory’s figures are listings, not vendor-confirmed offers or a like-for-like price survey. Its broader vendor directory reports prices starting at $0.10 per verification and a mixture of subscription, per-verification, freemium, and contact-sales models. That broad range does not establish the price of any particular implementation. Ask for a current quote covering your region and expected volumes. How to compare solutions for your deployment
- Define the job and architecture. Decide whether you need device-local unlock, employee login, customer recovery, or remote identity proofing. Establish whether the offer is an authenticator, SDK, cloud API, or complete workflow.
- Check modalities and fallback. Confirm supported face, fingerprint, or other methods, and how PIN or another factor works when biometrics fail. Ask how enrollment and account recovery avoid locking out legitimate users.
- Demand meaningful security-test evidence. For presentation-attack detection, request independent lab results, test version, operating point, attack classes, and false-accept and false-reject performance. A generic “liveness” claim is not a certification. Error rates cannot be compared responsibly without the threshold, test population, attacks, and conditions.
- Map biometric data handling. Ask what is captured, where templates or reference images are stored, whether data goes to a server, how long it is retained, how deletion works, and which subprocessors are involved. Do not assume remote verification has the local-only data handling described for FIDO passkeys.
- Validate integrations and operations. Check web, iOS, and Android support; APIs; cloud or on-premise deployment; compatibility with identity platforms; and monitoring and support responsibilities.
- Calculate total cost, not just the displayed unit price. Request the pricing basis, usage limits, minimum commitments, volume tiers, implementation and support charges, certification fees, and applicable regional taxes or currency.
- Ask for accessibility and demographic performance evidence. Request measurements for the intended devices, environments, and user population, and confirm accessible alternatives and failure handling.
What certification and performance claims establish
FIDO certification covers distinct scopes, including biometric components, remote face verification, and user authentication. FIDO’s overview reports more than 1,200 certified implementations; that total does not certify every product or every feature in a vendor’s portfolio. Check the FIDO certification directory for the exact implementation and certification scope.

The FIDO Biometrics Requirements v5.0 document dated September 1, 2026 is a review draft, not a finalized standard. It says biometric test thresholds and results need to be understood with their operating point and associated test information. Its NIST-alignment section says presentation-attack detection should be implemented for fingerprint and iris and shall be implemented for face; it also says biometric performance should be tested to ISO/IEC 19795-1. Treat these statements as draft requirements, not proof that a shortlisted product conforms. Read the FIDO review draft.

If the need is strong employee or personal account login rather than remote identity proofing, an external FIDO2 security key is another authenticator option. FIDO specifications support external security keys as well as device-embedded authenticators. Confirm that the target services support the key, that its connector fits the user’s devices, and that there is a workable account-recovery plan. A fingerprint-capable key is not equivalent to an identity-verification service, and hardware availability or compatibility should be checked with the manufacturer and the services you use.
