KRAFTON India has renamed its upcoming lightweight battle-royale game from BGMI LITE to BGMI Air. The title passed 10 million pre-registrations on Google Play in India, but KRAFTON still has not published an exact launch date. Release is planned for later in 2026.
What changed: BGMI LITE is now BGMI Air
KRAFTON India announced the new name on October 15, 2026. The announcement tied the rebrand to a major registration milestone: more than 10 million people in India had pre-registered through Google Play.
The change is a rename, not a confirmed launch. KRAFTON continues to describe the game as a lighter way to access the core BGMI experience, aimed at reducing storage barriers and making the game usable by more players, including people with limited device capacity.
BGMI Air is expected to be a separate game from the existing BGMI app. Existing players therefore should not assume that installing it will replace their current game or automatically move their account.

When will BGMI Air launch in India?
KRAFTON says BGMI Air is planned for release in India later in 2026. As of the October 15 announcement, there is no confirmed day, month, or public launch schedule.
India Today has reported that an open beta is coming soon. However, no beta start date, registration procedure, eligibility rules, supported devices, or duration has been published in the available announcement coverage. “Coming soon” should therefore not be treated as a fixed launch commitment.

How to pre-register on Android
Android users in India can pre-register through Google Play. Registration opened on August 25, 2026.
- Open the Google Play Store on an Android phone set to India.
- Search for BGMI Air. Depending on when the listing was updated, the page may still display references to the former BGMI LITE name.
- Open the official game listing and select Pre-register.
- Confirm the Google account and device shown by Google Play.
- Leave automatic installation enabled only if you want Google Play to install the game when it becomes available; otherwise, keep the registration and install manually after launch.
KRAFTON’s earlier announcement described an initial download of approximately 1GB. That figure is an estimated initial download, not a guarantee of the final installed size. Updates, downloaded maps, resources, voice files, and cached data can require additional storage.

What existing BGMI players should know
Players could pre-register without transferring their existing BGMI account, according to KRAFTON’s earlier notice. That means pre-registration itself does not require an account migration. It also does not establish whether progress, inventories, purchases, rankings, friends, or other data will be shared between the two games.
Because BGMI Air is described as a separate title, wait for KRAFTON’s final account and login instructions before deleting BGMI or assuming that the two apps have feature parity.

Will BGMI Air work on low-storage Android phones?
Reducing storage requirements is one of the stated reasons for BGMI Air. The approximately 1GB initial download suggests a lower entry barrier than a larger full-size installation, but it does not prove that every low-storage phone will run the game.

KRAFTON has not published final minimum device specifications in the announcement coverage available for this report. Before installing, check the Google Play listing for the released requirements and keep extra free space available for installation, updates, and temporary files. Storage capacity is only one factor; Android version, memory, processor, graphics support, and network performance can also affect compatibility.

Is BGMI Air coming to iPhone?
There is no confirmed iOS release timing in the published information. The announced pre-registration was for Android users in India through Google Play. KRAFTON has not yet stated whether an iPhone or iPad version will launch at the same time, arrive later, or have different requirements.
What is still unconfirmed
| Question | Current position |
|---|---|
| Exact India launch date | Not announced; release is planned for later in 2026. |
| Open-beta start date | Reported as coming soon, with no date published. |
| Beta eligibility and rules | Not published. |
| Final minimum device specifications | Not published. |
| iOS availability | No confirmed timing. |
| Complete BGMI feature parity | No full feature matrix has been released. |
| Account, purchases, and progress sharing | Not established; pre-registration does not require transferring a BGMI account. |
What the 10-million milestone means
The 10-million figure measures Google Play pre-registrations in India, not completed downloads, active players, or guaranteed launch-day users. It nevertheless signals unusually strong interest before release and gives KRAFTON a large Android audience for launch notifications and testing.
Until KRAFTON publishes the final date, requirements, beta rules, and platform plans, the practical takeaway is straightforward: BGMI Air is the new name for BGMI LITE, Android pre-registration is open in India, and the game is targeting a later-2026 launch without a confirmed date.
