Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
For most small groups, choose managed Minecraft hosting that offers your exact Better MC release and loader, then start with 6–8 GB of server RAM. Apex’s Better Minecraft guidance lists 4 GB as a minimum, about 6 GB for roughly two to five players, and 8 GB or more for larger groups. Those numbers are starting points, not guarantees: exploration, view distance, world generation, added mods, and simultaneous activity can raise memory and CPU demand.
The right host is therefore the one that matches the pack’s Minecraft version and loader, lets you change Java versions, provides an easy modpack installer or import tool, and allows a painless RAM or CPU upgrade. The provider name matters less than that compatibility check.

Which Better Minecraft host should you choose?
Use the following short list as a decision guide rather than a universal ranking. Better MC has several releases, and a host that is excellent for one release may not expose the correct server image for another.
Apex Hosting: clearest guided setup
Apex publishes a Better Minecraft-specific setup guide and says its server game-file selector includes the major BMC variants. That makes it the most straightforward choice for a first-time administrator who wants a documented path from server creation to joining the world. Its guide also provides pack-specific memory guidance instead of treating every modpack as identical.
#1 Best Overall
- DELUXE COLLECTION — Includes Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition, three Bedrock add-ons, three exclusive Character Creator items, and 700 Minecoins.
- CREATE YOUR WORLD — Build whatever you imagine in an infinite world that’s unique in every playthrough.
- EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world filled with surprises.
- SURVIVE THE ADVENTURE — Face mysterious foes, travel across exciting landscapes, and venture into perilous dimensions.
- PLAY TOGETHER — Play cross-platform with friends in Bedrock Edition on console, mobile, and PC, or join community servers in Java Edition on PC, Mac, and Linux. Online console multiplayer requires a platform-specific subscription (sold separately).
Choose this route when you value a guided installation and want the provider’s instructions to name the Better MC release you are deploying. Confirm the current image list, available locations, hardware tier, renewal price, cancellation terms, and any setup charge before ordering; those commercial details can change.
BisectHosting: automation and upgrade flexibility
BisectHosting documents one-click access to thousands of Minecraft mods and modpacks. Its support material explains how to change Java versions when a pack update requires a different runtime, and it warns that insufficient RAM increases JVM garbage-collection work and can produce lag. It also describes BisectBoost, a temporary RAM-increase feature.

Shockbyte: a budget candidate that needs verification
Shockbyte’s knowledge base documents a Modpack Installer and notes that Forge, Fabric, and other modded servers use notably more RAM than an unmodded server, especially with large modpacks. That makes it worth checking when the advertised hardware and price are attractive.
Do not select it solely on a low headline price. First confirm the exact Better MC image, underlying hardware tier, support coverage, backup options, regional location, renewal price, and cancellation policy. A cheap plan that cannot run the required loader or cannot be upgraded is more expensive in practice.
Know which Better MC release you are deploying
“Better Minecraft” is a family of modpacks, not one interchangeable server file. The release name, Minecraft version, and mod loader form a single compatibility target. Apex identifies these named variants:

| Pack variant | Minecraft version | Loader | Provider-reported scale |
|---|---|---|---|
| Better MC [FORGE] BMC1 | 1.16.5 | Forge | More than 5.7 million downloads, reported by Apex in 2026 |
| Better MC [FORGE] BMC4 | 1.20.1 | Forge | More than 16 million downloads, reported by Apex in 2026; 393 mods, seven dimensions, and more than 20 bosses |
| Better MC [NEOFORGE] BMC5 | 1.21.1 | NeoForge | Not stated in the cited provider material |
The download totals and content counts above are provider-reported figures dated 2026, not independent measurements. They are useful for showing how substantial these packs are, but they do not predict the exact RAM or CPU load on your world.
Forge, Fabric, or NeoForge?
The loader is not a switch you can change after installation without replacing the server files. The releases named above use Forge or NeoForge. A host may offer a generic Fabric image, but use Fabric only when the specific Better MC release you selected is officially a Fabric pack and the host provides that exact image. Installing Forge files on a NeoForge server, or mixing a Fabric client with a Forge server, will normally prevent startup or joining.
Every player must install the same Better MC release, Minecraft version, and loader as the server. “Almost the same” is not compatible: a different patch release, loader build, or mod list can cause a missing-mod error, registry mismatch, or immediate disconnect.

How much RAM does Better MC need?
Apex’s pack-specific guidance starts at 4 GB of server RAM and scales with player count. Use the following as an initial allocation:
| Situation | Initial allocation | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Very small test or temporary world | 4 GB | Minimum cited by Apex; suitable only for a very small test with conservative settings |
| Small active group of about 2–5 players | 6 GB | Apex’s approximate guidance; leave room to increase if exploration or generation causes stalls |
| Larger group or heavier activity | 8 GB or more | Recommended starting point for more players; the needed amount depends on view distance, dimensions, entities, and added mods |
Allocated memory is not the same as available memory. The host must have enough physical RAM for the operating system, panel, Java process, and backups in addition to the value assigned to Minecraft. Giving Java nearly all physical memory can create host-level swapping or instability rather than improving performance.
When to add RAM
- Players see pauses while new terrain generates or chunks load.
- The server log shows frequent garbage-collection activity or “out of memory” errors.
- Tick time rises as more players explore separate areas.
- Adding a new dimension, boss-heavy area, or large collection of extra mods makes the previous allocation unreliable.
Increase memory in the hosting panel, restart the server, and observe the same workload again. If memory is not near its limit but tick time remains high, more RAM alone will not fix a CPU or world-generation bottleneck.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
What to compare before paying
| Comparison point | Why it matters for Better MC | Questions to ask the host |
|---|---|---|
| Exact release and loader | BMC1, BMC4, and BMC5 use different Minecraft versions and loaders. | Is the exact pack image available now, and can it be changed without wiping the world? |
| Installation and import | Large packs contain hundreds of files; manual transfers are error-prone. | Is there a one-click installer, official image, or supported import process? |
| Java controls | Modern Minecraft releases may require a different Java runtime than older packs. | Can you select the Java version per server, and is the setting documented? |
| RAM and CPU upgrades | Player count and exploration can grow after launch. | Can RAM or CPU be upgraded without moving to a new account or losing the world? |
| Storage and backups | Generated dimensions and repeated backups consume disk space; a failed world restore is costly. | What storage is included, how often are backups made, and can you download them? |
| Network protection and location | Modded servers still need stable latency and protection from attacks. | Which region hosts the server, and what DDoS protection and network limits apply? |
| Support quality | Loader errors and Java mismatches often require provider-specific help. | Does support handle modpack configuration, and what response times are promised? |
| Total cost and terms | A low introductory rate may not be the renewal cost. | What are the recurring price, renewal price, setup fees, cancellation rules, and refund conditions? |
No current prices, locations, or affiliate terms are established here. Check the provider’s checkout and service terms immediately before purchase rather than relying on an old promotion.
Step-by-step: deploy a compatible Better MC server
- Record the exact client pack. Write down the full name, such as BMC1, BMC4, or BMC5, the Minecraft version, and the loader shown by the pack’s launcher or download page.
- Choose a matching server image. In the host panel, open the game or modpack selector and search for that exact release. Do not select a similarly named pack with a different Minecraft version.
- Select an initial plan. Allocate at least 4 GB only for a very small test. For a small active group, begin around 6–8 GB and choose a plan with a clear upgrade path.
- Set the Java runtime. Select the Java version required by the chosen Minecraft release. If the panel exposes several runtimes, use the version named in the pack or host documentation rather than assuming the newest one is correct.
- Install or import the pack. Use the provider’s one-click installer when the exact image is available. If importing files, upload the server pack rather than a client-only profile and follow the host’s required directory structure.
- Start once and read the log. Allow the server to finish dependency downloads and world setup. Stop and correct any loader, Java, or missing-mod error before inviting players.
- Match every client. Each player installs the identical release, Minecraft version, loader, and mod list. Disable automatic updates that could silently change a client before joining.
- Configure the world conservatively. Set a sensible view distance, keep an eye on entity-heavy areas, and avoid sending several players in different directions during the first generation run.
- Enable backups before long-term play. Confirm that backups include the world, dimensions, player data, and server configuration. Test that at least one backup can be downloaded or restored.
- Place the server near the group. Choose the region that minimizes latency for most players, then monitor tick time and connection quality during simultaneous play.
Diagnose lag, crashes, and failed joins
| Symptom | Likely cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Server stops during startup with a loader error | Wrong Forge, Fabric, or NeoForge files, or an incompatible mod | Verify the pack release, Minecraft version, loader, and server-side mod list; reinstall the matching image if necessary. |
| Players are rejected for missing mods or registry differences | Client and server packs are not identical | Have every player install the exact server release and remove extra client mods that are not part of it. |
| Long pauses during exploration | World generation, insufficient CPU, or too little RAM | Reduce view distance, avoid simultaneous long-distance travel, inspect memory and tick metrics, then upgrade RAM or CPU as indicated. |
| Repeated garbage collection and stutter | Java heap is too small for the active workload | Increase the allocation in measured steps; do not consume all physical host memory. |
| Crashes after a pack update | Java runtime or mod dependencies changed | Set the Java version required by the updated release, take a backup, and follow the pack’s server-update procedure. |
| Good performance for one player but lag with several | Player count, entities, or separate chunk loading exceed the initial plan | Measure during peak activity and move to a plan with more RAM and stronger CPU resources. |
| World loss after a failed change | Backups were missing, incomplete, or never tested | Stop making changes, preserve the current files, and restore the newest verified backup through the panel or support team. |
Managed hosting versus self-managed hardware
Managed hosting trades some control for convenience: the provider supplies a panel, network connection, server image, and often an installer. That is usually the practical choice for a group that wants to play rather than maintain Linux services, firewall rules, Java processes, and off-site backups.
Self-hosting can make sense when you already own suitable hardware, have reliable upstream bandwidth, and are comfortable securing the machine and troubleshooting Forge or NeoForge directly. You must then provide your own DDoS protection, public address management, backups, Java installation, and recovery plan. The Better MC memory guidance still applies; changing the location of the server does not reduce the pack’s workload.
A launch checklist
- Exact Better MC release, Minecraft version, and loader written down.
- Server image confirmed to match those three identifiers.
- At least 4 GB reserved for a tiny test; 6–8 GB targeted for a small active group.
- Java version selected for the chosen Minecraft release.
- Client and server modpack files identical.
- Backups enabled and one restore or download tested.
- Server region chosen near most players.
- Upgrade path confirmed for RAM and CPU.
- Current recurring price, renewal price, setup fees, and cancellation terms reviewed.
Bottom line: match first, scale second
Start with the exact Better MC image and loader, not with a generic “modded Minecraft” plan. For two to five players, 6 GB is a sensible starting target; 8 GB or more gives a larger group more headroom, while 4 GB should be treated as a small test minimum. Apex offers the clearest pack-specific setup guidance, BisectHosting emphasizes broad one-click modpack access and Java/RAM controls, and Shockbyte is a budget candidate only after its current image, hardware, support, and terms pass your checks. Whichever provider you choose, backups, matching client files, correct Java, and a nearby server location are as important as the advertised RAM number.
