For the clearest Xbox Series X visual showcase, start with Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II. Its facial capture, atmospheric 10th-century Icelandic environments and tightly directed presentation show what the console can do when detail, lighting, sound and animation are controlled scene by scene. Choose Forza Horizon 5 to demonstrate HDR landscapes and high-speed motion, Cyberpunk 2077 for a dense neon city, Alan Wake 2 for cinematic darkness, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 for enormous geographic scale, or Indiana Jones and the Great Circle for varied adventure locations.

The best choice depends on what you want to test: facial detail, reflections, HDR contrast, foliage, weather, animation, image sharpness or motion. A 4K HDR display is useful for the resolution and contrast benefits, while a 120 Hz input helps with games that provide a high-frame-rate mode. The Series X can support optimized games at up to 120 frames per second, but no title should be assumed to render at 4K and 120 FPS simultaneously.

Quick picks: which Xbox Series X game looks best for your purpose?

What you want to see Best pick Why it stands out
Most convincing faces and cinematic detail Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II High-detail facial capture, atmospheric environments and a deliberately cinematic presentation.
Open-world scenery and HDR Forza Horizon 5 Large Mexican landscapes, HDR skies and vistas, fast motion and documented Series X display modes.
Dense interactive city detail Cyberpunk 2077 A neon city filled with lights, crowds, signage and changing weather; its Series X version is officially optimized.
Darkness, lighting and film-like scenes Alan Wake 2 Survival-horror scenes built around contrast, shadow, filmed footage and visual fidelity.
Scale, clouds and atmospheric simulation Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Planet-scale geography and atmospheric rendering demonstrate simulation and streaming technology.
Varied locations and adventure detail Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Its journey across the Vatican, Egypt, Sukhothai and the Himalayas gives a display a broad range of scenes.

What makes a Series X game look impressive?

“Best graphics” is not one measurable setting. A game can look exceptional because it renders accurate reflections, holds detail in bright and dark areas, animates faces naturally, fills a large world with foliage and weather, or maintains a stable high frame rate while you move.

Ray-traced lighting and reflections

Xbox describes hardware-accelerated DirectX ray tracing as enabling more lifelike lighting and accurate reflections in real time. The effect is easiest to notice on glossy cars, wet streets, glass, polished floors and scenes with several light sources. It can also require more rendering work, so a title may offer a choice between a sharper or more detailed quality presentation and a smoother performance presentation.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

HDR range

High Dynamic Range is most visible when a scene contains both intense light and deep shadow: a bright sky over a dark road, neon signs in a nighttime street, or sunlight breaking through cloud. You need an HDR-capable display and correctly configured console and television settings to see the intended range. A standard SDR screen can still show the game, but it cannot reproduce the same peak highlights and contrast.

Resolution and frame rate are separate goals

Resolution controls fine image detail; frame rate controls how smoothly the image changes. A 30-FPS quality mode can devote more rendering time to lighting, effects and image reconstruction. A 60-FPS mode generally feels more responsive, while a 120-FPS mode can make supported motion especially fluid. The Series X specification is an upper capability, not a promise that every game uses every combination of resolution and frame rate.

Animation, materials and world density

Facial performance, cloth, hair, foliage, weather, crowds and surface materials often make a scene feel convincing even when its output resolution is similar to another game. This is why a directed character drama and an open-world racer showcase different strengths: one concentrates detail in faces and composition, while the other repeats visual quality across a moving landscape.

The best-looking Xbox Series X games

1. Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II — the strongest overall visual showcase

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II is the clearest recommendation if you want to show someone what a current Xbox console can do. GamesRadar+ describes it as a Series X system showcase and highlights its Unreal Engine 5 presentation, while Xbox Wire places the story in 10th-century Iceland and emphasizes an immersive audio-visual experience.

Its strength is controlled cinematic detail rather than a single headline specification. Facial capture gives conversations unusual presence; weather, rock, water and mist create depth; and the camera frequently frames scenes like a film. Because the game directs your path instead of asking you to cross a huge open world at speed, it can concentrate visual attention on characters, lighting and environmental composition.

  • Best for: facial detail, atmospheric landscapes, animation and cinematic composition.
  • Display advice: use a 4K HDR screen, then watch both a close facial performance and a wide landscape. HDR contrast is most apparent when bright sky or fire sits beside dark rock and shadow.
  • Mode information: a specific resolution or frame-rate mode is not established in the supplied platform facts, so do not buy it expecting a documented 4K/60 or 120-FPS setting.

2. Forza Horizon 5 — the best open-world racing demonstration

Forza Horizon 5 is the easiest game to use when you want a display test that stays visually busy. Its Mexican setting moves from roads and cities to beaches, jungle, desert and mountains, with large skies and changing light visible at racing speed. Forza documents HDR skies and vistas, a 4K 30-FPS presentation on Xbox Series X, an optional 60-FPS performance mode, and ray tracing on cars in Forzavista.

The distinction between modes matters. Choose the documented 4K/30 presentation when you want maximum image detail and richer visual effects. Choose the optional 60-FPS performance mode when steering response and smooth panning matter more. Ray tracing on cars in Forzavista is a separate showcase: use the car-viewing area to inspect reflections and paint rather than judging the effect only during a race.

  • Best for: HDR skies, long vistas, reflections on vehicles, foliage, weather and motion.
  • Display advice: drive toward the sun, enter a tunnel or shaded section, and then return to open sky. This reveals whether your display preserves both highlight detail and shadow information.
  • Access: the game is available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Cloud Gaming. Availability and catalogue inclusion can change by market and date.

3. Cyberpunk 2077 — the most convincing dense city

Cyberpunk 2077 is the choice for an interactive environment packed with lights, signs, vehicles, architecture and activity. The Xbox Series X|S version is officially listed as optimized, and GamesRadar+ characterizes the game after Update 2.0 and the Phantom Liberty expansion as an especially impressive visual experience.

  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

Unlike a linear showcase, its visual appeal comes from density. You can look down a neon street, enter a crowded interior, travel through a darker industrial district or move between daylight and artificial light without leaving the same city. That makes it useful for judging how your display handles small bright sources against large dark areas and whether fine signage remains legible while the camera moves.

  • Best for: neon lighting, urban density, material variety, reflections and day-to-night contrast.
  • Display advice: compare a brightly lit street with a dark interior, and check whether black areas retain texture instead of becoming a flat block.
  • Mode information: the supplied Xbox and game documentation confirms optimization but does not establish one universal resolution-and-frame-rate combination for every mode or market.

4. Alan Wake 2 — the cinematic test for darkness and contrast

Alan Wake 2 is a strong survival-horror showcase when you want to test shadow detail, controlled lighting and film-like presentation. GamesRadar+ describes it as frequently awe inspiring, with visual fidelity built around darkness, filmed footage and carefully staged scenes.

Its visual test is the opposite of a bright racing game. Flashlights, practical lights, reflections and brief outdoor views must coexist with deep shadow. A good HDR setup should make a lamp or beam look intense without erasing nearby texture, while dark areas should remain readable rather than turning into uniform black.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Best for: shadow detail, high-contrast lighting, camera composition and cinematic effects.
  • Display advice: play in a dim room and avoid judging the game with your television’s automatic “vivid” preset, which can crush shadow detail or exaggerate highlights.
  • Mode information: a single official Series X resolution or frame-rate specification is not stated in the supplied facts.

5. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 — the largest-scale visual demonstration

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 demonstrates a different kind of graphics achievement: enormous geography, streamed detail and atmospheric rendering. Xbox Wire says it uses current simulation, cloud, machine-learning, graphics and gaming technology, and launched on Xbox Series X|S with Game Pass.

Take off over a familiar area, climb through cloud, and then widen the view to the horizon. The visual workload changes continuously: ground features shrink into a broad landscape, clouds and haze alter depth, and lighting changes the appearance of the same terrain. This makes it a useful test of scale and atmosphere rather than a simple close-up texture comparison.

  • Best for: geography, clouds, haze, weather, horizon detail and streaming a very large world.
  • Display advice: use a bright daytime flight for terrain and a sunset or cloudy flight for atmospheric gradients. Look for smooth transitions in sky color and cloud edges.
  • Access: Xbox Wire confirms its Xbox Series X|S launch with Game Pass. Exact catalogue availability can vary by region and date.

6. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle — a varied adventure showcase

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a useful alternative when you want one game to move through dramatically different environments. Xbox Wire confirms its Xbox Series X|S and Game Pass release, with locations including the Vatican, Egypt, Sukhothai and the Himalayas.

That variety gives your display several kinds of material and light to render: enclosed architectural spaces, bright outdoor scenes, sandy environments, vegetation and mountain landscapes. It is less about one signature effect than about consistency as the game changes location and mood.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Best for: environmental variety, architecture, outdoor/indoor transitions and adventure-scale set pieces.
  • Display advice: compare an interior sequence with a sunlit exterior, then inspect fine geometry such as stone, fabric and vegetation at normal viewing distance.
  • Access: the Xbox Series X|S and Game Pass availability confirmed by Xbox Wire is subject to market and date changes.

How to use these games to test a 4K HDR TV

You do not need every game to evaluate a new display. Pick one title that matches the weakness you want to investigate, then use the same console and display settings while comparing scenes.

  1. Enable the display’s game mode. This normally reduces processing delay. Keep the setting fixed while comparing titles.
  2. Run the Xbox display calibration. Confirm that 4K output and HDR are enabled when your television or monitor supports them. Do not assume an HDR icon alone means the picture is correctly calibrated.
  3. Check the connection. A 120-Hz test requires a display input and cable path that can accept the selected signal. If the console reports only 60 Hz, verify the input’s enhanced or high-bandwidth setting.
  4. Choose a representative scene. Use Forza Horizon 5 for bright skies and motion, Alan Wake 2 for shadow detail, Cyberpunk 2077 for neon contrast, or Hellblade II for faces and atmosphere.
  5. Compare quality and performance options only when the game documents them. In Forza Horizon 5, the documented choice is 4K at 30 FPS or an optional 60-FPS performance mode. Do not apply that exact expectation to the other games.
  6. Inspect motion as well as still images. Pan across a skyline, steer through a bend or turn the camera around a character. A paused screenshot can hide judder, dropped frames or excessive motion smoothing.
  7. Recheck HDR after changing presets. A television preset can alter peak brightness, black level and color temperature. Use the same preset for every comparison.

Choosing between quality, performance and a 120-Hz display

A 120-Hz television or monitor is worthwhile if you plan to play titles that expose higher-frame-rate modes, but it is not a guarantee of 120 FPS. Xbox’s platform documentation describes optimized games as capable of higher, steadier frame rates up to 120 FPS; each developer decides whether to offer that mode and what resolution or effects it uses.

Choose the quality-oriented presentation when:

  • You sit close enough to notice fine image detail.
  • You are using Hellblade II, Alan Wake 2 or a scenic section where composition and lighting matter more than rapid input.
  • You prefer richer effects and a steadier cinematic look over maximum responsiveness.

Choose performance when:

  • You are racing, turning the camera constantly or playing a fast action sequence.
  • You notice judder or input delay more than small reductions in image detail.
  • The game explicitly documents a 60-FPS or higher mode, as Forza Horizon 5 does.

What a 4K/120 label does not mean

The label on a television describes what the panel and input can accept. It does not mean every Series X game renders at native 4K and 120 FPS, nor that every visual effect remains enabled at the highest frame rate. Treat the console’s maximum and each game’s published modes as separate facts.

Access, Smart Delivery and changing availability

Xbox Smart Delivery lets a buyer purchase a game once and receive the best available version for the Xbox console being used. That is useful when moving between Xbox generations, but the exact enhancements still depend on the title.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Game Pass and Xbox Cloud Gaming can change how quickly you can try a showcase. The documented examples above include Forza Horizon 5 on Xbox Cloud Gaming and Game Pass launches for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Catalogue membership, cloud support, launch timing and regional availability can change, so check the current Xbox listing for your market before relying on access through a subscription.

Enhancements also vary by game and market. “Optimized for Xbox Series X|S” indicates that a title has Series-specific support; it does not by itself specify a resolution, frame rate, ray-tracing implementation or HDR behavior.

Which game should you buy first?

  • Choose Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II if your priority is the most concentrated facial and cinematic showcase.
  • Choose Forza Horizon 5 if you want the clearest documented choice between 4K/30 and 60 FPS, plus HDR scenery and a dedicated ray-traced car-viewing mode.
  • Choose Cyberpunk 2077 if an interactive city with neon, interiors and dense detail is more appealing than a linear presentation.
  • Choose Alan Wake 2 if your display’s black levels, shadow detail and HDR contrast are the main concern.
  • Choose Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 if you want to demonstrate geographic scale, clouds and atmospheric rendering.
  • Choose Indiana Jones and the Great Circle if you prefer an adventure that tests many environments instead of one dominant visual style.

For a single demonstration to a new-TV owner, begin with Hellblade II for faces and atmosphere, then switch to Forza Horizon 5 for HDR skies and motion. Together they show why “best graphics” depends on the visual technique being tested rather than on one universal benchmark.
