The right alternative depends on where you plan to play: Windows compatibility does not mean a controller works on an Xbox console. For a wired option officially listed for Xbox, consider the GameSir G7 SE. For PC gaming, the Sony DualSense and 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Wireless are alternatives with different connection modes and features, but neither manufacturer’s compatibility information reviewed here establishes Xbox-console support.
Which alternatives work on Xbox consoles?
Of the alternatives covered here, GameSir lists the G7 SE as a wired Xbox controller and includes it among the Xbox-licensed controllers supported by its Nexus software. That makes it the clearest alternative in this group for someone who needs an Xbox-console controller as well as a PC option. Check the exact model and current compatibility details before buying.
The Sony DualSense and 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Wireless are PC-capable options, but their published platform information reviewed here does not establish that they work with Xbox consoles. A controller connecting to a Windows PC is not evidence of Xbox compatibility.

How the main options compare
| Controller | What the manufacturer lists | Connection and controls | Best fit and boundary |
|---|---|---|---|
| GameSir G7 SE | GameSir lists it in its Xbox controller catalog as a wired Xbox controller; Nexus supports it as an Xbox-licensed controller. | Wired. Nexus offers button mapping, adjustments for the D-pad, sticks, triggers, and vibration, up to three saved profiles, and firmware updates. | Consider it if you want a wired alternative for Xbox and PC. The manufacturer pages establish compatibility and software features, not comparative performance or durability. |
| Sony DualSense | Sony lists Windows 10 (64-bit) and Windows 11 support. | USB Type-C or Bluetooth. Feature support depends on the game and device; some PC features may require USB. | A PC option for players who prefer PlayStation controls or want supported DualSense features. The cited Windows support does not establish Xbox-console compatibility. |
| 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Wireless | 8BitDo lists Windows 10 (1903 or later), SteamOS 3.7.13 or later, Android 13 or later, and specified Apple operating systems. | 2.4 GHz wireless or wired on Windows; Bluetooth on Android and Apple platforms. It includes two back paddles, extra remappable bumpers, motion control, a charging dock, and Ultimate Software V2. | A PC-focused choice with multiple control and connection options. Xbox consoles are absent from the compatibility list reviewed. |

It has a 3.5 mm stereo headset jack. | Use it as a compatibility baseline when comparing alternatives intended to cover both console and PC. |
What to check before choosing
1. Confirm the platform, not just the connection
Start with the manufacturer’s compatibility list for the exact controller. If you need Xbox-console support, look for Xbox compatibility specifically; Windows, Bluetooth, or USB support alone does not establish it. Also check model revision and any device or operating-system conditions.

For Xbox Wireless Controller, Microsoft lists Xbox Wireless for consoles and Bluetooth for supported PCs and mobile devices. The DualSense connects to Windows by USB Type-C or Bluetooth. 8BitDo lists 2.4 GHz wireless and wired modes for Windows, and Bluetooth for Android and Apple platforms. The G7 SE is listed as wired.
3. Check whether your games support the features you want
Sony cautions that DualSense support varies by game and device. Adaptive triggers require supported games, and haptic feedback is game-dependent and may require a USB connection on PC. Sony recommends checking a game’s controller-support indicator on Steam. A controller’s feature list does not guarantee that every game will use every feature.
