For most Xbox players, the best starting point is Xbox’s official wishlist. It works across Xbox.com, Xbox consoles, and Xbox apps on iOS, Android, and Windows, and is designed for games and add-ons you may want to buy. If your backlog means owned games, achievement targets, and completion progress, TrueAchievements is the more capable tracking layer. The Xbox PC app solves a different problem: it gathers installed games from supported PC storefronts so you can find and launch them, but it is not established as a complete console-backlog manager.
There is no single best tool for every library. Choose according to what you are trying to organize: future purchases, owned games, achievement work, Game Pass availability, or installed PC titles.
Quick recommendation
| If you want to… | Start with… | Why it fits | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Remember games and add-ons you may buy | Xbox wishlist | Official, simple, and available on Xbox.com, console, and Xbox apps for iOS, Android, and Windows | The documented feature is a wanted-games list; it does not establish playing, paused, or finished backlog states |
| Track owned Xbox games and achievement progress | TrueAchievements | Collections, achievement data, progress features, milestones, and achievement to-do lists | Some connected features require Xbox-data authorization, and service behavior can change |
| Import Xbox Store purchases into a collection | TrueAchievements | A July 17, 2026 announcement describes purchase and DLC import after authorizing basic Xbox data | Adding an item to a collection does not change completion percentage or other statistics |
| Find and launch installed PC games | Xbox PC app | Aggregates installed games from Xbox, Game Pass, Battle.net, and other leading PC storefronts | The documented scope is PC access and launch convenience, not a complete console ownership or backlog workflow |
| Separate locked-achievement goals into projects | TrueAchievements to-do lists | Multiple lists for locked achievements were announced in October 2026 | This is achievement planning, not a general cross-platform backlog database |
Decide what “backlog” means for you
Backlog tools often fail because they are asked to solve different problems at once. A wanted list contains games you might purchase. An owned collection contains games you can play now. A completion list contains games you have started but have not finished, often with specific achievements still locked. An installed-library view tells you what is immediately available on a device. Those are related lists, but they are not interchangeable.

- Capture future purchases. Put games and add-ons you are considering in the Xbox wishlist.
- Establish what you own. Use TrueAchievements collection features and, where appropriate, its Xbox Store purchase import.
- Choose a next game. Filter or sort your collection using the progress information available to you. One community member described sorting a TrueAchievements collection by completion estimate; that is an individual method, not a measured result for all players.
- Plan completion work. Use achievement progress and separate to-do lists when your goal is a particular set of locked achievements.
- Launch what is installed. On PC, use the Xbox app’s aggregated library to find titles across supported storefronts.
This separation prevents a common mistake: treating a store wishlist, an achievement tracker, and a launcher as though each were a full backlog database.

Xbox wishlist: the best simple wanted-games list
What it does
Xbox describes the wishlist as a way to keep track of wanted games, add-ons, and more. Its main advantage is reach: the list is available through Xbox.com, Xbox consoles, and Xbox apps on iOS, Android, and Windows. Because it is an official Xbox feature, it is the least complicated choice for someone who mainly wants to remember a possible purchase and check it later.
How to use it as a buying queue
- Sign in to the Microsoft account connected to your Xbox profile.
- Open a game or add-on listing in the Xbox store on Xbox.com, your console, or an Xbox mobile or Windows app.
- Add the item to your wishlist.
- Review the wishlist before buying, especially when deciding between a new release and something already saved.
- Remove items that no longer interest you so the list remains a buying queue rather than an archive of every game you have ever noticed.
The exact button wording and layout can vary by device and app version, so look for the store control that adds or removes an item from your wishlist rather than assuming every screen is identical.
What it does not establish
The documented wishlist description does not establish statuses such as playing, paused, finished, abandoned, or 100% complete. Do not treat a wishlist entry as proof that you own a game, have installed it, or have started it. If you need those distinctions, pair the wishlist with a collection and progress tool instead of trying to force the wishlist to perform that job.
TrueAchievements: strongest fit for achievement-led backlogs
Collections and Xbox Store purchase import
TrueAchievements combines Xbox achievement information with game-collection and progress features. In a July 17, 2026 feature announcement, the service said that users who authorize access to basic Xbox data can view Xbox Store purchases and import games and downloadable content into their collections.
That import can reduce the manual work of reconstructing an owned library. It is still worth checking the resulting collection: a purchase record and a personal backlog are not exactly the same thing. You may own a title you never intend to play, have access through a family arrangement, or want to exclude games that do not fit your current goals.
The same announcement makes an important distinction: adding games or DLC to a collection does not change completion percentage or other statistics. Collection maintenance and achievement statistics are separate operations.
Progress, milestones, and achievement planning
The service’s app description lists gamer milestones, changes in achievement score, and game-progress information. Those features are useful when your definition of a backlog is unfinished achievement work rather than a list of unplayed purchases.

In October 2026, TrueAchievements announced multiple to-do lists for locked achievements. You can use separate lists for different projects, such as a short weekend session, a particular game’s difficult achievements, or a group of titles you want to finish before starting something new. These lists organize achievement objectives; they do not turn the service into a universal cross-platform game database.
Game Pass integration
On June 24, 2025, TrueAchievements announced improved Game Pass integration, including more complete tier data and a manually selectable Game Pass Ultimate ownership option for people who prefer to update their collection themselves. This is helpful when deciding whether to play a title through a subscription rather than purchase it.
Game Pass membership and catalog placement are changeable. Before you prioritize a game because it appears to be included, check the current Game Pass catalog and the live integration behavior in your account. A game can leave a catalog, move between tiers, or appear differently as service data is updated.
Authorization and account considerations
Purchase import depends on authorizing access to basic Xbox data. Read the permission prompt and confirm that you are connecting the Xbox account whose purchases and achievements you want to track. If you decline authorization, expect to rely on manual collection management or features that do not require the connection.
Keep your account relationship in mind when troubleshooting. A collection that looks incomplete may reflect a different Microsoft account, a denied permission, a delayed synchronization, or a title that was not purchased through the store account being queried.

Xbox PC app: a launcher and installed-library view
What the aggregation covers
Xbox Wire described an aggregated gaming library in the Xbox PC app that brings together installed games from Xbox, Game Pass, Battle.net, and other leading PC storefronts. The announcement also described cross-device play history. For a PC player with games spread across several launchers, this can reduce the need to remember which storefront contains an installed title.
Where it helps
- Finding an installed game without opening several PC launchers first.
- Bringing supported storefront installations into one access point.
- Checking play history across devices where the feature applies.
Why it is not a complete Xbox backlog manager
The documented announcement focuses on access to installed PC games and launch convenience. It does not establish comprehensive ownership tracking, a console backlog workflow, or status fields for every Xbox game you have bought, claimed, started, or finished. Use it as the PC access layer in a broader system, not as the only record of your Xbox backlog.
A practical backlog system using the tools together
1. Keep the wishlist for potential purchases
Add games and add-ons you may buy to the Xbox wishlist. Do not mix already-finished games into it merely to preserve a history; the list is most useful when it answers the question, “What might I want to buy next?”
2. Build an owned collection
Use TrueAchievements collections for the games you want to track. If you authorize basic Xbox data, try the Xbox Store purchase import announced in July 2026. Review imported entries and remove or ignore anything that does not belong in your active queue.
3. Create a small set of personal states
The available evidence does not establish a universal set of TrueAchievements backlog labels. You can still make decisions consistently by defining your own states outside the store wishlist: unstarted, active, paused, complete, and not pursuing. Keep the number small enough that you will actually maintain it. The tool should clarify your next choice, not become a second game to manage.
4. Choose one priority rule
Pick a rule that matches your motivation. Examples include finishing the shortest remaining achievement path, completing one game before starting another, or playing only titles currently in your subscription catalog. Sorting a collection by completion estimate is one community-described approach, but it is not evidence that the method works for everyone.
5. Turn goals into achievement lists
When the objective is specific locked achievements, use multiple TrueAchievements to-do lists announced in October 2026. Name each list by project and keep only actionable goals in it. A list of twenty vague intentions is less useful than a short list of achievements you can attempt during your next session.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute6. Launch PC games from the right place
On PC, use the Xbox app’s aggregated library to locate installed titles across supported storefronts. If a game is not installed, do not assume that its absence means you do not own it; the aggregation is an access view, not a definitive ownership ledger.
Compare the options by the decision that matters
| Decision | Xbox wishlist | TrueAchievements | Xbox PC app |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primary purpose | Save wanted games and add-ons | Track Xbox collections, achievements, and progress | Find and launch installed PC games |
| Owned-library support | Not established by the wishlist description | Collections and Xbox Store purchase import announced July 17, 2026 | Not established as comprehensive ownership tracking |
| Achievement planning | Not documented | Progress features and multiple locked-achievement to-do lists | Not documented |
| Game Pass relevance | Not a documented catalog tracker | Improved integration announced June 24, 2025; verify current tier and catalog behavior | Includes Game Pass titles in the PC aggregation where supported |
| Device scope | Xbox.com, Xbox consoles, iOS, Android, and Windows Xbox apps | Service and app features connected to Xbox data | Xbox PC app and supported PC storefronts |
| Best for | Buy-later decisions | Completion-oriented players | PC launch convenience |
Common pitfalls and fixes
Using the wishlist as an owned-game list
Symptom: You cannot tell whether an item is purchased, installed, or finished.
Fix: Keep prospective purchases in the wishlist and use a TrueAchievements collection for owned games and progress. The wishlist’s documented purpose is wanted items, not backlog status management.
Assuming an imported collection changes statistics
Symptom: You import a game or DLC and expect completion percentages to update.
Recommended Free Tools
Fix: Treat collection membership and achievement statistics as separate. The July 17, 2026 announcement explicitly says that adding games or DLC does not change completion percentage or other stats.

Expecting Game Pass data to stay constant
Symptom: A title no longer appears in the tier or catalog you expected.
Fix: Check the current Game Pass catalog and the service’s current integration. Catalog membership and tier data can change, and TrueAchievements provides a manual Ultimate-ownership option for users who prefer to maintain that information themselves.
Calling the Xbox PC app a console backlog manager
Symptom: You cannot find every owned console game or assign backlog states in the PC app.
Fix: Use the app for its documented PC aggregation and launch function. Keep console collection and achievement organization in a tool designed for those purposes.
Seeing an incomplete purchase import
Symptom: Some purchases do not appear in the TrueAchievements collection.
Fix: Confirm that you authorized the correct Xbox account and that the permission remains active. Then check whether the missing item was bought through that account, whether it is DLC rather than a base game, and whether synchronization has completed. Add or maintain entries manually if the connected data does not cover your case.
What about Backloggd, HowLongToBeat, and other names?
Community discussions about organizing an Xbox library or deciding what to play next mention Backloggd, HowLongToBeat, and TrueAchievements. Those discussions are useful for understanding the language players use, but they do not verify the current feature set, Xbox integration, or data accuracy of every named service. For that reason, this guide does not rank Backloggd or HowLongToBeat as Xbox backlog managers on the strength of those comments alone.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If you evaluate another service yourself, check four things before moving your entire library: whether it supports the Xbox account connection you need, whether it distinguishes owned from wanted games, whether it has the progress fields you will actually maintain, and whether its catalog integrations are current.
Which tool should you choose?
Choose Xbox wishlist if buying decisions are the problem
Use it when your main question is which games or add-ons you may purchase later and you want the list available across Xbox devices and apps. It is the lowest-maintenance option.
Choose TrueAchievements if completion is the problem
Use it when achievements, gamer milestones, completion progress, owned-game collections, or specific locked-achievement projects determine what you play next. Authorize Xbox data only if you want connected purchase information, and verify Game Pass details at the time you rely on them.
Choose the Xbox PC app if finding installed PC games is the problem
Use it to gather supported PC installations from Xbox, Game Pass, Battle.net, and other leading storefronts in one access view. Do not expect it to replace a console collection or achievement tracker.
Use a combination when your backlog has several layers
Many players need all three roles: wishlist for possible purchases, TrueAchievements for owned-game and achievement planning, and the Xbox PC app for installed PC access. Keeping each tool within its documented scope is more reliable than searching for one app that claims to do everything.
