For a balanced starting point, use the High preset if your PC meets World of Slime’s published minimum requirements, then lower settings in this order: shadows, particle density, resolution or texture quality, and finally draw distance. Lowering shadows from High to Medium is reported to deliver about 15–20% more FPS with a small visual change, although that figure is a guide-reported typical result rather than a guarantee for every PC. Choose V-Sync based on whether you value tear-free motion or the lowest possible input latency.

Check which World of Slime build you are running

World of Slime has a full PC release listed for Q4 2026, while a separate Steam demo released on August 26, 2026. Settings behavior and performance can change between the demo and the full build, so identify the build before comparing results or applying advice from another player.

  • Open your Steam library and check whether you installed the demo or the full game.
  • Note the game’s current version in its Steam properties or title screen.
  • Use the same build when testing a graphics change; otherwise a patch change can look like a settings improvement or regression.

The recommendations below are intended for the Windows PC versions. They are starting points, not a promise of a fixed frame rate: the available sources do not publish a universal FPS target or a multi-GPU benchmark table.

Published PC requirements and what they mean

The Steam listing gives these Windows minimums:

Component Published minimum How to interpret it
Operating system Windows 10, 64-bit A 64-bit Windows installation is required by the listed specification.
Processor Intel Core i5 The listing does not identify a generation or exact model, so “Core i5” alone is not enough to predict performance.
Memory 8 GB RAM This is the listed floor for system memory, not a guarantee that other programs will leave enough headroom.
Graphics card GeForce GTX 960 The listing does not state a target resolution or frame rate for this GPU.
Storage 20 GB available space Keep additional free space for Windows, shader caches, updates and save data.

A minimum specification means the game is designed to run on hardware around that level under some conditions. It does not establish how many frames per second you will get at a particular resolution, in a water-heavy scene, during a large combat effect, or in a crowded area. Your display resolution, driver version, background software and cooling can all change the result.

The best first preset

Use High when performance already looks close to your target

If your PC is at or above the listed minimum and movement already feels consistent, begin with High. Walk through a busy area, enter a fight with substantial effects and move through a water-heavy scene before deciding that the preset is suitable. A short, empty-room test can hide the slowdowns that matter during play.

Use Medium when the High preset is uneven

Start at Medium if High produces visible hitching, large frame-time spikes or sustained GPU load in the scenes you actually play. Medium gives you a stable baseline from which you can raise individual options later; starting with every setting at maximum makes it harder to identify the cause of a stutter.

Judge consistency, not one peak number

There is no authoritative, game-wide FPS preset for every GPU. A high instantaneous FPS reading is less useful than smooth frame delivery. Repeat the same route at the same resolution after each change and watch for pauses, uneven camera motion and drops during effects.

Which settings to lower first

The controls guide identifies shadow quality, particle density and draw distance as the most influential frame-rate controls. Resolution and texture quality are useful follow-up adjustments, but they have a more obvious effect on image quality.

Setting When it costs performance Best adjustment Visual or gameplay trade-off
Shadow quality Broadly, whenever many objects or lights cast shadows; the difference is especially easy to see while moving through complex scenes. Lower High to Medium first. The controls guide reports a typical 15–20% FPS increase from this change. Shadows become less detailed or stable, but the guide describes the visual change as small.
Particle density Most noticeable during water effects and slime combat, where many translucent or animated effects appear at once. Reduce one level when fights or water scenes cause the drops. Fewer or simpler effects can make combat and environmental effects look less rich.
Draw distance When the scene contains many distant objects that must be rendered or streamed. Lower it only after shadows and particles; test an outdoor route for object loading. More distant objects can disappear sooner, and scene pop-in may become more apparent.
Resolution When the GPU remains saturated after the high-impact quality settings are reduced. Drop one step, or use a lower in-game resolution that matches your display’s aspect ratio. The entire image becomes softer or less detailed, so this is a conspicuous change.
Texture quality When graphics memory or GPU throughput is limiting performance, rather than the CPU. Lower one step if resolution changes are too damaging to clarity. Surface detail becomes less sharp; the effect is most visible on nearby walls, characters and terrain.
V-Sync It does not primarily reduce scene-rendering cost, but it changes how completed frames are presented. Enable it to remove distracting tearing; disable it when the lowest latency matters more and tearing is acceptable. Enabled V-Sync can add a small amount of input lag. Disabled V-Sync can show tearing when output exceeds the monitor refresh rate.

The 15–20% shadow figure is a typical result reported by the World of Slime controls/settings guide in 2026. It is not an independent benchmark and should not be treated as a guaranteed gain on your hardware.

A step-by-step tuning procedure

  1. Confirm the hardware baseline. Compare your PC with the listed Windows 10 64-bit, Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, GeForce GTX 960 and 20 GB storage minimums. If your system is below one of these, expect to make larger compromises and do not use another player’s FPS as a promise for yours.
  2. Make sure the game uses the intended GPU. On Windows, open Settings > System > Display > Graphics, add the game if it is not listed, open its options and select the high-performance GPU. Laptop firmware or vendor control panels can use different labels.
  3. Choose a baseline preset. Select High if your initial movement is already close to your desired smoothness; otherwise select Medium. Restart the game if it asks you to apply the preset.
  4. Test a repeatable route. Use the same resolution and display mode, then visit a busy area, a water-heavy area and a combat encounter. Record whether the problem is a generally low frame rate, a short hitch when new scenery appears, or a drop during effects.
  5. Lower shadows from High to Medium. This is the first change because it usually has the best performance-to-image-quality trade-off according to the settings guide. Repeat the same route rather than relying on a menu preview.
  6. Reduce particle density for effect-heavy drops. If ordinary movement is smooth but slime combat or water produces spikes, reduce particles before changing resolution.
  7. Lower resolution or texture quality one step. Use resolution when the GPU is clearly saturated and you can accept a softer image. Use texture quality when you need to preserve output resolution but can tolerate less surface detail.
  8. Reduce draw distance if scene complexity is the remaining problem. Check distant terrain and structures after the change. Keep the higher value if earlier object loading or pop-in interferes with navigation.
  9. Choose V-Sync deliberately. Test it on and off at the same resolution and frame cap, looking for either tearing or added control delay.
  10. Apply system fixes for persistent stutter. Update the graphics driver, close unnecessary background applications and check that the PC has adequate ventilation. Then repeat the route test after the system has cooled and settled.

Practical profiles for different priorities

Goal Suggested starting choices What to watch
Balanced image quality High preset; shadows at High initially, then Medium if frame-time spikes appear; particles and draw distance unchanged until tested; native resolution; V-Sync based on tearing. Whether busy areas remain consistent rather than whether an empty area reports a high peak.
More FPS with modest visual loss Medium preset or High with shadows at Medium; reduce particles for combat and water; keep native resolution if possible; lower draw distance only if needed. Pop-in after lowering draw distance and missing effects after lowering particles.
GPU-limited system near the minimum Medium preset; shadows at Medium; particles reduced; one-step-lower resolution or textures if the GPU remains saturated; draw distance reduced last. Whether frame delivery improves in all three test scenes, not just in a quiet area.
Lowest latency Use the lowest quality combination that holds a consistent frame rate, then test V-Sync off. Tearing and unstable frame pacing. If either is unacceptable, compare with V-Sync on.

These are tuning sequences, not guaranteed presets. The right combination depends on your GPU, processor, monitor resolution and the build you installed.

Should you use V-Sync?

Turn V-Sync on when tearing is the problem

With V-Sync enabled, the game coordinates frame presentation with the display refresh cycle. This is useful when a horizontal break appears across moving scenes or when steady delivery is more important than the smallest possible control delay. The World of Slime settings guide notes a small input-lag cost.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Turn V-Sync off when latency is the priority

Disabling V-Sync can reduce the waiting associated with synchronized presentation, but Steam Support explains that Windows may allow games to display frames at rates above the monitor’s refresh rate, which can produce tearing. If you choose this option, compare the result at the same resolution and frame cap so that you are testing synchronization rather than several changes at once.

What to do with adaptive-sync displays

If your monitor supports an adaptive-sync mode, follow the configuration guidance for that monitor and its GPU driver. The available World of Slime sources do not establish one universal combination of in-game V-Sync, driver settings and frame cap for every display, so verify the result on your own hardware.

How to diagnose stuttering on PC

Stutter that happens during combat or water effects

Start with particle density. These scenes are specifically identified as the most relevant for that control. If the hitch remains, lower shadows and then test resolution or texture quality. Avoid changing draw distance first, because it addresses distant scene complexity rather than effect bursts.

Stutter when entering a new area

Draw distance affects scene complexity and can also change how noticeable object loading and pop-in are. Reduce it one step and repeat the same transition. If the visual pop-in is distracting or navigation becomes harder, restore the previous value and use a shadow or resolution reduction instead.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Low performance everywhere

Confirm that the game is using the discrete high-performance GPU, then start from Medium and lower shadows. Check resolution and texture quality next. Close unnecessary applications, update the GPU driver and inspect ventilation; thermal limits or background activity can cause sustained slowdown even when a graphics preset appears appropriate.

Brief hitches with otherwise high FPS

Look at frame-time consistency rather than only an average or peak FPS number. Repeat the same route after each individual change. If the hitch is tied to a specific effect or transition, keep the setting that addresses that scene rather than lowering every option.

Performance changed after an update

Record whether you are running the August 26, 2026 demo or the Q4 2026 full release, and note the current version. A build change can alter performance independently of your graphics settings. Re-establish a baseline with the same route before comparing new results.

Can a GTX 960 run World of Slime?

The GeForce GTX 960 is the graphics card named in the published minimum specification, so it is the appropriate reference point for a minimum-class configuration. That does not establish a guaranteed FPS, resolution or quality level. For a GTX 960, begin at Medium if High is uneven, lower shadows first, reduce particles in combat and water, and then try a one-step resolution or texture reduction. Keep draw distance as high as performance allows if distant-object pop-in bothers you.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Also consider the rest of the system: the minimum lists an Intel Core i5 and 8 GB of RAM without identifying a processor generation, and the game needs 20 GB of available storage. A GTX 960 paired with a slower processor, limited free memory or heavy background activity may behave differently from another GTX 960 system.

How to test whether a change helped

  • Change one option at a time. If shadows, resolution and V-Sync all change together, you cannot tell which adjustment fixed the problem.
  • Keep the test conditions fixed. Use the same build, display resolution, route and approximate scene activity.
  • Test the worst case you actually encounter. Include water, combat and crowded areas rather than relying on an empty starting location.
  • Watch for frame-time consistency. A lower but steady result can feel better than a higher average interrupted by severe spikes.
  • Keep notes. Write down each setting and whether the problem was low overall performance, effect-related drops, loading hitching or tearing.

Because no authoritative multi-GPU benchmark table or universal recommended FPS target is published, your repeatable route is the most useful way to decide whether a setting is acceptable.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Treating minimum requirements as a performance guarantee. They describe a floor, not a fixed frame rate at every resolution or location.
  • Lowering textures before shadows. Texture and resolution changes are more visible; shadows generally offer a better first trade-off.
  • Reducing draw distance without checking pop-in. The setting can improve performance while making distant objects appear later.
  • Using V-Sync as a general stutter fix. It addresses presentation and tearing, not every cause of low rendering performance or loading hitches.
  • Comparing the demo with the full release as though they were identical. Confirm the build and version before drawing conclusions.
  • Changing several settings and assuming the last change helped. Return to a known baseline and retest one adjustment at a time.

Recommended order in one checklist

  1. Verify the demo or full-release build and its version.
  2. Confirm your PC against the published Windows minimums and select the intended high-performance GPU.
  3. Start on High if it is already consistent; otherwise start on Medium.
  4. Lower shadows from High to Medium.
  5. Lower particle density for combat or water-related drops.
  6. Lower resolution or texture quality one step if the GPU is still saturated.
  7. Lower draw distance only when you accept additional pop-in.
  8. Choose V-Sync according to tearing versus input-latency preference.
  9. Update drivers, close background software and improve ventilation if stutter continues.
  10. Retest the same busy, water-heavy and combat scenes after every meaningful change.
