For a nonprofit WordPress site that accepts donations, choose a paid host with a nonprofit offer documented by the provider, and obtain the exact terms in writing before paying. For 2026, Kinsta and FatLab Web Support have provider-level nonprofit discounts. Kinsta lists 15% off WordPress hosting for approved nonprofits and allows that discount to stack with two free months on annual plans. FatLab lists 20% off plans, additional sites and hourly development for 501(c)(3) organizations without an application or approval process. Claims about nonprofit pricing from several other hosts appear only in secondary guides or conflict with other sources.
What makes nonprofit WordPress hosting different?
A charity website has the same technical requirements as any other WordPress site, but the consequences of failure are higher. Donation forms, event registrations, volunteer applications and email sign-ups all collect information that must be protected. A slow or unavailable site can also interrupt a campaign at the moment a donor is ready to give.

The right decision therefore balances four things:
- Reliability and security: updates, backups, malware protection, TLS certificates and a support team that can respond when fundraising traffic spikes.
- Maintenance capacity: a small organization may need managed WordPress service instead of handling server updates and troubleshooting itself.
- Total recurring cost: a first-term promotion is not the same as a permanent nonprofit discount, and add-ons can cost more than the base plan.
- Donation workflow: the host must support your payment processor, forms, CRM integrations and privacy obligations without forcing an unsafe workaround.
“Free” is not automatically appropriate. A free tier may have limited support, weaker performance, storage limits, forced branding or conditions such as a backlink. For a site that accepts donations, a low-cost paid plan is generally the safer default than an unverified free offer.

| Provider | What is documented | Verification and scope | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kinsta | 15% off all monthly and annual WordPress hosting plans for approved nonprofits; two months free on annual plans can be combined with the 15% discount. | Send 501(c)(3) paperwork, or the equivalent in your country, to Kinsta Sales. The discount applies to future payments after approval, to the WordPress Hosting plan only, and not to add-ons. Each nonprofit site needs its own hosting account. | Vendor-level documentation; medium-high confidence. |
| FatLab Web Support | 20% off all plans, additional sites and hourly development for 501(c)(3) organizations. | The provider states that no application or approval is required. Confirm how the discount appears on invoices and whether any services are excluded. | Vendor pricing page; medium confidence. |
| WP Engine | A secondary guide reports approximately 40% off for verified 501(c)(3) organizations. | The provider’s “Engine for Good” material describes corporate giving, not a hosting discount. Ask sales for written nonprofit pricing; do not budget on the secondary claim. | Unverified. |
| Bluehost | Sources conflict: a 2026 guide says there is no nonprofit-specific discount, while an older guide claims 20% off for registered charities. Plans may include a first-year free domain. | No nonprofit rate should be treated as confirmed until the provider gives current written terms. A free first-year domain is not a nonprofit program. | Unverified and conflicting. |
| SiteGround | An older guide claims 20% off for registered charities. Other descriptions mention introductory discounts of roughly 50–75% for new customers. | Introductory pricing is not a nonprofit benefit and renews at a higher rate. Confirm both eligibility and renewal pricing. | Unverified and conflicting. |
| DreamHost | Secondary guides describe free shared hosting for verified US 501(c)(3) organizations. | No current provider-page terms are cited for this offer. Obtain the current conditions, resource limits and support terms directly. | Secondary-source claim only. |
| InterServer | Secondary guides describe free hosting for US-registered nonprofits in exchange for a homepage backlink. | No current provider-level terms are cited. A backlink requirement and free-tier limits may be unacceptable for a donation site. | Secondary-source claim only. |
Best choices by nonprofit situation
Best documented discount: Kinsta
Kinsta is the clearest option when you want managed WordPress operations and a published nonprofit rate. Approved organizations receive 15% off monthly and annual WordPress hosting plans. Annual billing can add two free months, and Kinsta’s annual-plan terms state that the annual offer stacks with the nonprofit discount.
Plan for an eligibility step: submit your 501(c)(3) documentation (or your country’s equivalent) to Sales. Approval affects future payments, so ask when the discount begins and request the final recurring amount in writing. The discount covers the WordPress Hosting plan, not add-ons, and each nonprofit site must have its own hosting account. If you need multiple sites, calculate each account and any add-on separately.

Best provider-level percentage: FatLab Web Support
FatLab lists 20% off all plans, additional sites and hourly development for 501(c)(3) organizations, with no application or approval required. That combination can suit a nonprofit that expects ongoing maintenance or occasional developer help rather than hosting alone.
Before signing, ask whether the 20% applies for the entire customer relationship, how it is shown on invoices, and whether taxes, third-party services or emergency work are excluded. “All plans” on a pricing page does not necessarily mean every external add-on.

When an unverified offer is not a real option
WP Engine, Bluehost and SiteGround appear in discount discussions, but published information is inconsistent or secondary. Treat a sales response as a quote, not a published program, and require the discount, duration, renewal rate, eligibility proof and excluded services in writing. Do not choose a host because a comparison article repeats a percentage that the provider cannot confirm.
Managed WordPress versus shared hosting
| Factor | Managed WordPress | Traditional shared hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Server and WordPress maintenance | More operational work is handled by the host; useful when staff are not technical. | Your team typically handles more updates, configuration and troubleshooting. |
| Cost pattern | Usually higher base cost, potentially offset by a nonprofit discount and less staff time. | Often cheaper at the entry level; renewal and add-on costs must be checked. |
| Scaling campaigns | Ask about traffic bursts, caching and resource limits before a major appeal. | Low-cost resources may become a bottleneck during a campaign. |
| Control and compatibility | Some plugins or server settings may be restricted for stability. | More settings may be available, but your team carries more responsibility. |
| Support expectations | Support is usually WordPress-focused; verify response channels and hours. | Support quality varies; confirm whether WordPress debugging is included. |
Choose managed hosting when a failed update, cache problem or security incident would otherwise depend on one volunteer. Choose shared hosting only when someone on staff or a contractor can maintain WordPress, monitor backups and respond to outages.

Compare the amount you will pay after the first invoice, not the largest headline percentage. Build a 24-month estimate with these line items:
- Base hosting price after any nonprofit discount.
- Renewal price after an introductory term ends.
- Number of sites and whether each site needs a separate account.
- Premium backups, staging, malware cleanup, CDN or email services.
- Developer time for updates, accessibility fixes and incident response.
- Migration, setup or cancellation fees.
For Kinsta, model the 15% nonprofit reduction on both monthly and annual plans, then separately model the two free annual months. Do not apply the percentage to add-ons because the documented scope excludes them. For FatLab, ask whether the 20% applies to your chosen plan and to additional sites or hourly work as stated, and record any exceptions.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Secondary material has described shared hosting at roughly $3–$5 per month, but that figure is not a provider quote and should be treated as a low-confidence budget illustration rather than a market guarantee. A cheap plan can become expensive if a donation plugin fails, backups are inadequate or staff must pay for emergency help.
Free hosting and donation sites
Free hosting can be reasonable for a noncritical informational site, a temporary campaign page or a development copy. It deserves extra scrutiny when visitors can donate. A secondary guide specifically advises against free tiers for donation-accepting sites; the practical concern is not the word “free” itself but the conditions often attached to it.
- Availability: verify uptime expectations, resource throttling and what happens when traffic exceeds a limit.
- Support: find out whether a person can help during a payment outage and how quickly.
- Security: confirm TLS, account isolation, malware response, patching and administrator protections.
- Backups: determine frequency, retention and whether you can restore without paying an extra fee.
- Branding and links: a forced ad or backlink can reduce donor trust and may conflict with your communications policy.
- Data and migration: check whether you can export the database, media and DNS settings if the service ends.
If you investigate a free nonprofit tier from DreamHost or InterServer, request current written terms before moving a live donation site. Confirm the eligibility geography (the descriptions refer to US organizations), resource caps, support, branding, backlink requirements and whether payment processing is permitted.
Verification checklist before you buy
- Prove eligibility: ask what documents are accepted. Kinsta specifies 501(c)(3) paperwork or a country equivalent; other providers may use different definitions.
- Get the recurring price: request monthly and annual totals after discounts, taxes and add-ons.
- Clarify duration: ask whether the rate is permanent, time-limited, tied to annual billing or lost after a plan change.
- List exclusions: document treatment of extra sites, domains, email, backups, staging, development hours and premium support.
- Test the donation stack: confirm compatibility with your payment gateway, forms, CRM, analytics and receipt emails on a staging site.
- Check recovery: perform a test restore and record who can access backups if the primary administrator leaves.
- Prepare for campaigns: ask how to raise PHP workers, CPU, bandwidth or caching capacity temporarily and what it costs.
- Record the agreement: save the approval email, quote and renewal terms in the organization’s shared records.
Migration and setup plan for a nonprofit site
1. Inventory the current site
List WordPress core and plugin versions, PHP requirements, domains, DNS records, cron jobs, forms, payment integrations, transactional email and storage use. Identify which data is donor information and who is allowed to access it.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
2. Build a staging copy
Use a private staging environment to test the theme, donation form, recurring payments, tax receipts, confirmation emails, accessibility and mobile layouts. Never use live donor data for testing unless your privacy controls explicitly allow it.
3. Lower DNS TTL and schedule the cutover
Reduce the DNS time-to-live before migration, copy the database and media, freeze content briefly, then switch DNS during a low-traffic period. Keep the old host available until forms, redirects and payment callbacks have been tested.
4. Verify after launch
- Submit a small test donation and confirm the payment status, receipt and webhook.
- Check HTTPS on every page and remove mixed-content warnings.
- Test administrator login, backups, restores, contact forms and email deliverability.
- Monitor error logs, response time and resource usage through the first fundraising campaign.
Google Ad Grants is separate from hosting
Google Ad Grants and Google for Nonprofits are separate programs, not hosting discounts. The host you select does not determine eligibility. Keep any advertising-program application and hosting decision as separate workstreams, and verify current program rules directly with Google before relying on them.
Questions to put to sales
- Is the nonprofit price available in our country and for our legal status?
- What documentation is required, and how long does approval take?
- Does the discount apply to renewals, additional sites and development work?
- Which add-ons are excluded, and what are their recurring prices?
- What is the normal renewal price if the nonprofit program ends?
- What support response time applies during a donation outage?
- Can we export a complete WordPress backup and move it elsewhere without a penalty?
Recommendation
For a donation-accepting nonprofit that wants less server maintenance, start with Kinsta and ask for written confirmation of the 15% discount, the two-free-month annual stacking rule, account-per-site requirements and add-on exclusions. Evaluate FatLab Web Support when its 20% discount on plans, additional sites and hourly development better matches your support needs. Consider other providers only after they provide current, written nonprofit terms; do not treat conflicting guide claims, introductory promotions or unverified free tiers as established savings.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there free WordPress hosting for a 501(c)(3)?
Secondary guides describe free tiers from DreamHost for verified US 501(c)(3) organizations and from InterServer for US nonprofits, but no current provider terms are cited. Confirm limits, support, branding or backlink requirements, backups and donation compatibility before using a free tier.
Which nonprofit WordPress discount is documented by the provider?
Kinsta documents 15% off WordPress hosting for approved nonprofits, with two free months on annual plans stacking with that discount. FatLab Web Support lists 20% off plans, additional sites and hourly development for 501(c)(3) organizations.
Is a first-year hosting promotion the same as a nonprofit discount?
No. A new-customer introductory price, such as a discounted first term or free domain, can renew at a higher rate and does not establish a nonprofit program. Compare the recurring renewal amount.
Should a donation site use free hosting?
Usually not unless the provider can demonstrate adequate reliability, security, backups, support and migration access. A low-cost paid plan is generally safer for a live donation workflow.
