For most revenue-generating WooCommerce stores, BlogVault is the strongest all-around choice in 2026 roundups because its WooCommerce plan is reported to combine off-site storage, one-click and emergency restores, staging, and per-order capture. Choose Jetpack Backup (VaultPress) when minimizing the gap between an order and its backup matters most, UpdraftPlus when you want a low-cost schedule with your own cloud storage, and Duplicator Pro when the primary job is migration or cloning rather than live-order protection.
Those recommendations come with an important qualification: current vendor pricing, plan contents, and setup screens were not independently verified. The price figures below are conflicting figures from third-party reviews and an older vendor resource page, so confirm the live offer before buying. Whatever plugin you use, connect off-site storage first, back up the database as well as files, retain at least 30 days of restore points, and test a restore on staging.
What a WooCommerce backup plugin must protect
A WooCommerce store is more than a collection of WordPress files. Product images and theme files live under wp-content, while orders, customers, products, settings, coupons, and much of the store’s operational state live in the database. A backup that contains only files can leave you with a working-looking site and no recent orders; a database-only backup cannot restore missing images, plugins, or theme code.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsBefore comparing plugins, define the recovery point you need. A restore point is a copy of the store at a specific time. If your last copy was made at 02:00 and an order arrived at 02:15, restoring that copy can remove the 02:15 order from the WordPress database. Real-time capture reduces that interval; scheduled capture leaves a window that depends on your schedule.

wp-content/uploads, where product images, downloadable files, and other media commonly reside. - Code and configuration: Include active themes, plugins, and relevant WordPress configuration so the restored database has the code it expects.
- Off-site copies: Keep at least one copy outside the production server. A server failure, compromised account, or bad update can affect both the live site and a backup stored beside it.
- Usable restore points: Keep enough history to roll back a bad update or compromise, not merely the newest copy.
The setup recommendations later in this guide use a practical minimum of 30 days of restore points. Stores with seasonal changes, long fraud investigations, or frequent plugin changes may need more.
Best WooCommerce backup plugins compared
| Plugin | Capture approach | Storage | Retention reported in 2026 coverage | Restore and staging features | WooCommerce order handling | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| BlogVault | WooCommerce tier is reported to capture changes per order rather than relying only on a fixed schedule. | Off-site cloud storage included. | 365-day archive reported for the WooCommerce tier. | One-click restore, an emergency restore path that does not require a working WordPress administrator login, and a staging site are reported. | Per-order capture is reported. | Stores where recovery options and long history matter as much as low cost. |
| Jetpack Backup (VaultPress) | Positioned in roundups as the real-time option. | Vendor-managed storage is reported. | 30-day archive reported in roundups; a vendor resource page lists 365 days for its Advanced tier. | Real-time backups are reported; staging and emergency-restore details were not stated in the reviewed material. | Real-time capture is the main reason to consider it, but exact WooCommerce order features were not stated. | Busy stores prioritizing the smallest possible backup gap. |
| UpdraftPlus | Scheduled backups in the free tier; premium adds incremental backups. Real-time backup is generally not available. | Bring-your-own destinations such as Google Drive, Dropbox, Amazon S3, and others are supported in the free tier. | Not stated in the reviewed material; set a retention count that produces at least 30 days of points. | Premium migration tools are reported; staging and emergency-restore details were not stated. | Scheduled database captures protect orders, but orders placed between runs remain exposed. | Small stores and owners who want flexible storage at the lowest reported cost. |
| Duplicator Pro | Primarily described as a migration and cloning tool, not a live-order backup system. | Not stated in the reviewed material. | Not stated. | Cloning and migration are the central uses; live emergency-restore capability was not stated. | No 2026 source reviewed confirmed live WooCommerce order capture. | Moving or cloning a site, not choosing a primary backup for an active order stream. |
The table separates what the 2026 roundups and vendor resource page actually described from details that were not established. A missing cell is not evidence that a feature does not exist; it means the available material did not confirm it.
Which plugin should you choose?
Choose BlogVault for the broadest recovery toolkit
BlogVault is the most frequently named top pick for WooCommerce stores in the reviewed 2026 roundups. Its reported WooCommerce-tier combination is unusual: off-site cloud storage is included, restores can be initiated with one click, an emergency path is available when the normal WordPress administrator login is unusable, a staging site is included, and backups can be captured per order. The reported 365-day archive is useful when you need to investigate an issue that was not discovered immediately.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThat breadth comes at a price that is difficult to state precisely. Different reviews reported annual figures of $49.50, $89, and $99; another listed a $149-per-year, 10 GB entry plan and an $89–$249 range. These are third-party figures, not a verified current price list. Treat the plan name, site count, storage limit, and retention as purchase-time checks rather than promises.
Choose Jetpack Backup when order latency is the deciding factor
Jetpack Backup, also referred to as VaultPress in the coverage, is positioned as the real-time choice. For a busy store, the key benefit is reducing the period in which a newly placed order exists only in the live database. The trade-off reported by roundups is a shorter 30-day archive than BlogVault’s reported 365-day WooCommerce archive.
There is a material plan distinction: a Jetpack resource page lists an Advanced tier with real-time backups and 365 days of storage at $249 per year. That conflicts with the 30-day figure in review coverage because the sources may describe different tiers. Verify the exact retention attached to the plan you are considering. Reviews also reported $10 per month, $4.95 per month when billed annually, and $9.95 per month as a regular price. Those figures are not a substitute for the current checkout price.
Choose UpdraftPlus for scheduled backups and storage control
UpdraftPlus is the budget and flexible-storage option. Its free tier supports scheduled backups and destinations including Google Drive, Dropbox, and Amazon S3. Premium adds incremental backups and migration tools. The reviewed material generally does not describe real-time backup, so a store that receives orders continuously must account for the interval between scheduled runs.

Most coverage reported UpdraftPlus Premium at about $70 per year for two sites. That is an unverified review figure. The practical advantage is control: you can choose a cloud account and define how many database and file copies to retain. The practical responsibility is yours as well; a disconnected cloud account, an expired token, or an over-aggressive retention setting can leave no usable restore point.
Use Duplicator Pro for migration or cloning, not as a live-order decision
Duplicator Pro is mainly described as a migration and cloning tool. The 2026 material reviewed did not confirm that it captures live WooCommerce order data. A package that is excellent for moving a site can still be a poor match for protecting orders arriving every few minutes. If migration is your goal, evaluate it on that basis; if order recovery is the goal, require explicit evidence that the database is captured at the frequency you need.
Set a backup policy before installing anything
A plugin cannot choose the correct recovery policy for you. Write down the maximum amount of order data you can afford to recreate and the oldest restore point you may need.
| Store situation | Database frequency | Full file backup | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| High-volume store with frequent orders | Real-time where available, or at least hourly | At a cadence that covers theme, plugin, and upload changes | Orders placed between runs are the main exposure. |
| Moderate store with daily order activity | Several times per day or at least daily | Weekly, plus before major updates | Balances storage with a manageable recovery-point gap. |
| Small store with occasional orders | Daily | Weekly | Usually sufficient when the store changes slowly, provided the schedule is monitored. |
These are starting points, not guarantees. Increase frequency around sales events, catalog imports, payment changes, or major updates. Keep at least 30 days of restore points so a problem discovered weeks later does not force you to restore a known-bad copy.
How to set up a WooCommerce backup plugin
Vendor-specific settings labels were not verified, so the sequence below uses the common WordPress workflow and describes the setting you need rather than inventing a plugin’s exact menu name.
1. Record the current store state
- Open the WordPress administrator area and note the WordPress, WooCommerce, theme, and plugin versions.
- Record the latest order number, payment status, and any fulfillment work in progress. This gives you a reconciliation list if you later restore an older point.
- Check available server and cloud-storage capacity. A full file copy can be much larger than a database-only copy because of product media and downloadable files.
2. Install and activate the plugin
- In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New.
- Search for the plugin name, install the intended plugin, and select Activate. For a premium edition, upload the vendor package or follow its license-activation flow.
- Open the plugin’s settings from the new WordPress admin menu or the plugin list. Menu wording differs by product and version.
3. Connect off-site storage before scheduling jobs
Choose the vendor’s cloud storage when it is included, or connect a destination such as Google Drive, Dropbox, or Amazon S3 for a bring-your-own-storage plugin. Complete the authorization flow and run the plugin’s connection test if one is offered. Do not make the production server the only location of a backup; a local copy is useful for speed, but it is not an off-site copy.
Use an account that the store can retain access to if staff change. Store the destination and recovery credentials in your normal password-management process, and document who can authorize a restore. The goal is not merely to create an archive but to ensure another administrator can find and use it during an outage.

4. Select every required backup component
Enable the database and the complete file set unless you have a documented reason to separate them. At minimum, include WooCommerce and WordPress database content, uploads, active themes, and plugins. If the plugin offers separate database and file schedules, create both; a frequent database job does not replace a file backup.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Exclude only content you can recreate and have tested as safe to exclude. Removing uploads or a custom plugin to save space can make a restore appear successful while leaving product pages or checkout behavior broken.
5. Set the capture frequency
Choose real-time capture for a busy store when the selected plan provides it. With scheduled tools, set the database interval first because orders change more often than theme files. Use the policy table above as a baseline and shorten the interval before promotions or bulk catalog work.
Check the schedule’s time zone and the next-run time. A daily schedule that runs during a maintenance window may be fine; one that silently fails because the site is asleep or the authorization expired is not a backup policy.
6. Configure retention for usable history
Set the number of daily, weekly, or monthly copies so the oldest available point is at least 30 days back. If the plugin offers a separate retention setting for database and files, apply the same recovery logic to both. Keep a point from before major updates and security work when storage allows.
7. Run and verify the first backup
- Start a full backup manually rather than waiting for the first scheduled run.
- Confirm that the job reports success for both database and files, not merely that it was queued.
- Open the off-site destination and verify that an archive or restore point is actually present.
- Check its timestamp, size, and included components. A zero-byte archive, an unexpectedly tiny file set, or a database-only result needs investigation before you rely on it.
8. Test restoration on staging
Restore the first known-good point to a staging site, not directly over the live store. A staging copy lets you verify product pages, customer records, order history, payment settings, email templates, and the checkout flow without changing production data. Record how long the restore takes and which credentials or DNS steps are required; that record becomes your outage runbook.
Do not assume a successful archive job proves that restoration works. A restore test is the only way to discover an incomplete file set, an incompatible plugin version, or a missing database component while the live store is still healthy.

Real-time backups and WooCommerce orders
Real-time backup matters because orders are not evenly spaced events. During a promotion, several orders may arrive between two scheduled jobs. If you restore a point from before those orders, the restored database will not contain them, even if the payment processor completed the charges.
Per-order capture and real-time capture are related but not identical descriptions. Per-order capture, as reported for BlogVault’s WooCommerce tier, emphasizes an order-level recovery record. Jetpack Backup is described as real-time, which emphasizes how quickly changes are copied. Ask the vendor how order creation, status changes, refunds, notes, and customer updates are represented before you rely on the feature for a specific workflow.
Recommended Free Tools
No backup frequency eliminates the need for reconciliation. Payment-gateway records, shipping systems, and a recent database export can provide evidence of orders created after the selected restore point. They may not recreate every WordPress setting automatically, so treat them as recovery inputs rather than a substitute for a tested database restore.
How to restore a WooCommerce store without losing newer orders
First decide whether a full restore is necessary
If only a theme file is damaged, restoring the entire database can erase valid orders. If the database is compromised, restoring only files will not remove the bad data. Identify whether the incident affects code, uploads, the database, or all three, and choose the smallest restore scope that fixes it.
Use this production-safe sequence
- Stop new changes. Put the store into maintenance mode or otherwise pause checkout and fulfillment updates. Tell staff not to edit orders while the restore decision is being made.
- Capture the current state. Save the latest order list, payment statuses, and a fresh database export if the site is still accessible. This provides a reference for orders created after the restore point.
- Select the restore point. Choose the newest point known to be clean and verify its timestamp. Do not select an older copy merely because it is convenient.
- Restore to staging first. Use the plugin’s staging or restore workflow, if available, and inspect the site before touching production. BlogVault’s reported emergency path is specifically useful when the normal administrator login no longer works.
- Test the recovered store. Check representative products, customer accounts, order history, taxes, shipping, coupons, email generation, and a non-capturing checkout test. Confirm that the restored plugin and theme versions are compatible.
- Reconcile the gap. Identify every order and status change after the restore point using payment-gateway records and the current export. Re-enter or otherwise reconcile those orders using your normal operational process before reopening fulfillment.
- Restore production. Apply the verified point to the live site, clear caches if your stack requires it, and recheck checkout, payment callbacks, and order emails.
- Reopen and monitor. Remove maintenance mode only after a test order or equivalent verification succeeds. Watch the next scheduled or real-time backup for a successful run.
Restoring an older point is inherently destructive to data created after that point. A one-click restore reduces the mechanical work; it does not remove the need to account for newer orders.

The only copy is on the production server
Symptom: The plugin reports success, but the archive disappears with the site. Fix: Connect off-site storage and confirm that a completed archive is visible there. Keep a local copy only as an additional recovery path.

The backup contains files but no current orders
Symptom: Product images restore, but recent orders or customers do not. Fix: Enable the database component, run a fresh database backup, and inspect the archive contents. Set a more frequent database schedule for the store’s order volume.

Orders are missing after a restore
Symptom: The restored site stops at an earlier order number. Fix: Compare the restore timestamp with payment-gateway records and the database export taken before restoration. Reconcile orders placed after the point; do not assume the backup tool can infer them.
A scheduled job silently stops
Symptom: The last successful timestamp is older than the configured interval. Fix: Check the storage authorization, destination capacity, and the plugin’s job log. Run a manual backup and verify the resulting off-site archive before relying on the schedule again.
A restore works on paper but fails on staging
Symptom: The archive downloads, but the site has broken checkout, missing media, or plugin errors. Fix: Confirm that uploads, themes, plugins, and the database were all included. Record the incompatible component and repeat the restore with a compatible code set before attempting production recovery.

Pricing and plan caveats
The figures below are reported by third-party reviews or, for one Jetpack figure, a vendor resource page. They were not verified against current pricing pages, and the sources conflict.
| Plugin | Reported figures | How to interpret them |
|---|---|---|
| BlogVault | $49.50, $89, and $99 per year in different roundups; another review listed a $149-per-year 10 GB entry plan and an $89–$249 range. | Likely reflects different plans, storage limits, or dates. Confirm the exact WooCommerce tier, site count, storage, and retention at purchase. |
| Jetpack Backup | $10 per month in one review; $4.95 per month billed annually in another; $9.95 per month regular in one review; $249 per year for an Advanced tier on a vendor resource page. | Check whether the price is promotional, monthly, annual, or tied to the Advanced tier with 365 days of storage. |
| UpdraftPlus Premium | About $70 per year for two sites in most reviewed coverage. | Verify the current license scope and whether the features you need are included in that edition. |
| Duplicator Pro | Not stated in the reviewed material. | Evaluate current pricing and, more importantly, confirm whether the plan meets your backup and live-order requirements. |
Do not choose on price alone. A cheaper scheduled backup can cost more during an order-heavy outage if the missing orders require manual reconstruction. Conversely, paying for real-time capture is unnecessary for a low-volume site whose daily recovery-point objective is acceptable.
Ongoing maintenance checklist
- Review the last successful backup timestamp at least weekly.
- Confirm that off-site storage still contains recent database and file copies.
- Keep at least 30 days of restore points.
- Run a staging restore after installing the plugin and whenever its major version changes.
- Repeat a restore test before a major WooCommerce, theme, or payment update.
- Document who can access the backup destination and who is authorized to restore production.
- After every restore, reconcile orders created after the selected point using payment records or a recent database export.
- Revisit the schedule when order volume, catalog size, hosting, or promotional activity changes.
The most defensible choice is the one whose capture frequency matches your order volume, whose copies live off-site, and whose restore process your team has actually rehearsed. BlogVault offers the broadest reported recovery features, Jetpack Backup emphasizes real-time capture, UpdraftPlus gives budget-conscious stores scheduled backups with flexible destinations, and Duplicator Pro is better evaluated as a migration tool unless live-order backup is explicitly confirmed.
