For most PS5 players, the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7P Wireless Gen 2 is the most useful PULSE Elite alternative because it combines a 2.4 GHz USB-C game-audio link with simultaneous Bluetooth phone audio and a manufacturer-rated 50-plus-hour battery. Choose the Audeze Maxwell 2 if planar-driver hardware and long wireless sessions matter more, or the Logitech G ASTRO A50 X if one headset must switch between PS5, Xbox and PC/Mac through a base station. The Razer BlackShark V2 Pro for PlayStation and Xbox is another option for wireless console play with USB-dongle PC use.
These are different fits rather than laboratory-tested rankings. The battery figures and feature descriptions below are manufacturer or retailer specifications, not independent measurements of sound, comfort, microphone quality, latency or endurance. Prices, stock and regional configurations can change, so verify the exact edition before ordering.
At a glance: which PULSE Elite alternative fits your setup?
| Headset | Best fit | Documented connection and battery facts | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7P Wireless Gen 2 | PS5 players who want game and phone audio at the same time | PlayStation support; 2.4 GHz USB-C dongle for game audio; simultaneous Bluetooth mobile audio; 50+ hours rated battery; 15-minute charge for six hours of use. SteelSeries specifications | Battery and charging numbers are manufacturer ratings. Some Sonar AI functions are for PC, and you must confirm that the listing is the 7P Gen 2. |
| Audeze Maxwell 2 | Premium wireless use and a planar-driver design | PlayStation Direct lists PlayStation, Mac, PC and Switch compatibility, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, and 80+ hours of low-latency wireless gameplay. PlayStation Direct specifications | This is a premium-price category headset. The available specification does not establish simultaneous PS5 and Bluetooth audio. |
| Logitech G ASTRO A50 X | People switching among PS5, Xbox and PC/Mac | PLAYSYNC switching base; PS5 setup through HDMI 2.1; 4K/120 Hz passthrough, game/chat mixing and 3D Audio are documented by Logitech. Logitech G specifications | More cabling and a base-station installation than a USB dongle. The linked page is UK-region, so local configuration and price may differ. |
| Razer BlackShark V2 Pro for PlayStation and Xbox | Wireless console play with a USB-dongle PC option | Razer says the wireless headset works on PC through its included USB wireless dongle. Razer technical specifications | Platform edition and connectivity vary by SKU and region; do not confuse it with the wired BlackShark V2 X. |
There is no universal winner. The correct choice depends first on how the headset reaches PS5, then on whether you need a phone mix, multi-console switching, a particular driver design or a long rated battery.

The PULSE Elite is the baseline to beat, not simply a name on a comparison chart. Sony documents planar magnetic drivers, PlayStation Link wireless, Bluetooth, simultaneous PlayStation Link and Bluetooth audio, a retractable microphone and an included charging hanger. Sony rates its battery for up to 30 hours and says a 10-minute charge can provide up to two hours. The included PlayStation Link USB adapter supports PS5, PC and Mac. See the official PULSE Elite product page for the current specification.

That feature set creates four practical tests for an alternative:
- Can it deliver PS5 game audio through a supported wireless path rather than ordinary Bluetooth?
- Can it mix phone audio with the game, or does it merely switch between sources?
- Does it fit your other platforms without buying another headset or transmitter?
- Does its battery and charging behavior suit your sessions?
A headset having Bluetooth on its box does not answer the second question. Bluetooth may be intended only for a phone, while PS5 game audio uses a USB transmitter or base station. Confirm simultaneous operation in the model’s own documentation.
How wireless headset connections work on PS5
Direct Bluetooth is not the normal PS5 headset path
PlayStation’s PS5 Ultimate FAQ says third-party wireless headsets that use Bluetooth are not supported as normal direct PS5 headset connections. Most USB and analog headsets are supported, including headsets connecting through 3.5 mm, USB-A or USB-C; those connections can work with PS5 3D Audio. The FAQ is an older platform document, so use it as a general rule and check the current model-specific support page before purchase.

Identify the actual game-audio path
Wireless alternatives in this guide use one of three practical routes:
- USB 2.4 GHz transmitter: a small USB-A or USB-C dongle carries low-latency game audio. The Nova 7P Gen 2 uses a USB-C dongle, while the BlackShark V2 Pro includes a USB wireless dongle.
- PlayStation Link: Sony’s own wireless protocol, used by PULSE Elite and its USB adapter.
- Base station and HDMI: the ASTRO A50 X routes PS5 video and audio through its HDMI 2.1 base, then switches sources with PLAYSYNC.
Analog connection through the DualSense’s 3.5 mm jack is another supported fallback, but it is wired and does not provide the convenience that makes these wireless alternatives attractive.
Pre-purchase compatibility checklist
- Read the product name carefully and select the PlayStation or PS5 edition, not an Xbox-only or PC-only variant.
- Locate the documented PS5 game-audio path: PlayStation Link, an included USB transmitter, an HDMI base station or a DualSense cable.
- Check whether the USB transmitter is USB-C, USB-A or supplied with an adapter for the ports you use.
- Look separately for Bluetooth phone support and wording such as simultaneous, mixed or dual-device audio.
- Confirm microphone and chat behavior when a Bluetooth call is active; Bluetooth support alone does not guarantee that chat remains available.
- Check the region, current listing, stock and price immediately before checkout.
SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7P Wireless Gen 2: best for PS5 plus phone audio
The Nova 7P Wireless Gen 2 most directly replaces the PULSE Elite’s dual-device convenience. SteelSeries documents PlayStation support, a 2.4 GHz USB-C dongle for game audio and simultaneous Bluetooth mobile audio. That lets you hear PS5 and a phone source at once instead of repeatedly changing the active device. The company rates battery life at 50-plus hours and says a 15-minute charge provides six hours of use. Those are stated product ratings, not independent endurance tests.
How to use it with PS5
- Connect the supplied USB-C wireless dongle to the PS5. If your console position makes USB-C inconvenient, use the included or compatible adapter specified for your package.
- Select the headset’s 2.4 GHz wireless mode for PS5 game audio and complete the console’s audio-output selection if prompted.
- Pair your phone over Bluetooth using the headset’s pairing control and phone Bluetooth settings.
- Adjust game and mobile levels independently so a call or podcast does not mask game cues.
- Test the microphone in a party before relying on simultaneous audio for a long call. The product page documents the audio mix; it does not replace a model-specific chat test in your setup.
SteelSeries also promotes Sonar software features, but the product information says some Sonar AI functionality is for PC. Do not assume every PC software feature is available on PS5. Verify the exact “7P Gen 2” designation because similarly named Arctis generations have different feature sets. SteelSeries’ older Arctis compatibility article lists several models, but it is not evidence for every feature of the newer Nova 7P Gen 2.

Who should choose it
- Choose it when simultaneous PS5 and phone audio is your deciding feature.
- Choose it when a USB-C transmitter is preferable to a permanent base station.
- Look elsewhere if you specifically need documented PS5/Xbox/PC switching from one dock or if you require independent proof of sound quality.
Audeze Maxwell 2: premium planar-driver alternative
The Maxwell 2 is the premium-oriented choice in this shortlist. PlayStation Direct lists compatibility with PlayStation, Mac, PC and Switch, plus Bluetooth and USB connectivity. It lists 80-plus hours of low-latency wireless gameplay. The figure is a retailer-published product specification and should be read as an “up to” claim rather than a measured result.
Its planar-driver design appeals to buyers who specifically want that hardware approach. Driver type alone does not prove that one headset sounds better than another; this comparison has no controlled listening or microphone testing. Treat planar construction as a design preference, then use the return policy and current regional listing to manage fit and sound uncertainty.
Connection questions to resolve before buying
- The listing confirms Bluetooth and USB connectivity, but it does not establish simultaneous PS5 game audio and Bluetooth phone audio. Do not infer a PULSE Elite-style mix from Bluetooth support.
- Confirm which wireless transmitter, if any, is included in the package you are buying and how it connects to your PS5.
- Check whether the listing is the PlayStation-compatible Maxwell 2 rather than a platform-specific package.
Maxwell 2 is therefore a strong candidate when long rated battery life and premium wireless hardware matter more than a documented phone-game mix.

Logitech G ASTRO A50 X: one base for PS5, Xbox and PC/Mac
The ASTRO A50 X addresses a different problem: switching between several systems without moving a USB dongle. Logitech documents PLAYSYNC for Xbox, PS5 and PC/Mac. For PS5, the installation uses HDMI 2.1 and supports 4K/120 Hz passthrough, game/chat mixing and 3D Audio according to the company’s product page.
What the PS5 installation involves
- Place the A50 X base where your PS5 and display cables can reach it.
- Connect the PS5’s HDMI output to the base station and the base’s HDMI output to the display, following Logitech’s current wiring diagram.
- Connect the required USB and power cables, then select the PS5 source on the base.
- Verify that your display still reports the intended resolution and refresh rate, especially if you use 4K at 120 Hz.
- Configure PS5 audio and chat output, then test game/chat balance and 3D Audio before adding the other platforms.
- Connect Xbox and PC/Mac inputs as directed and use PLAYSYNC to change sources.
This is more involved than plugging in a USB transmitter. The benefit is centralized switching and HDMI passthrough; the cost is extra cabling, desk space and another possible failure point. The linked Logitech page is the UK site, so verify the local model, included cables, power configuration and price in your market.
When the A50 X makes sense
Buy it for a multi-console or console-plus-PC setup where source switching is a daily task. It is excessive if you only use one PS5 and want the simplest wireless connection.
Razer BlackShark V2 Pro for PlayStation and Xbox
Razer positions this wireless model for PlayStation and Xbox use and states that it can connect to a PC through the included USB wireless dongle. That gives it a straightforward console-and-PC use case without the HDMI base required by the A50 X. Review the technical-specification page for the exact configuration.
Edition checks that prevent a wrong purchase
- Confirm the listing says “for PlayStation and Xbox,” not a different BlackShark package.
- Do not confuse the wireless V2 Pro with the wired BlackShark V2 X; the product names are similar but the connection method is not.
- Verify the included transmitter, console compatibility and regional SKU before checkout.
- Razer’s claims are manufacturer specifications; this guide does not independently test its battery, microphone or wireless latency.
The BlackShark V2 Pro is a sensible candidate when you want wireless console use and occasional USB-dongle PC use, but the available information does not document a PULSE Elite-style simultaneous phone mix.

A September 2026 comparison guide also lists the HyperX Cloud III S Wireless, Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 3, Sony INZONE H9 II and wired Turtle Beach Atlas 200 among PS5 headset choices. That page is useful for expanding a shortlist, but it reports US list or MSRP references checked for September 2026 rather than guaranteed checkout prices. Its battery figures are manufacturers’ “up to” ratings, not measurements by the guide. Confirm each model’s current platform edition, connection path, price and stock with the manufacturer or retailer before treating it as an alternative.
The guide’s broader list does not change the core compatibility rule: a model name or Bluetooth logo is not proof of direct PS5 game audio or simultaneous dual-device operation.
Compare the features that actually affect your decision
| Decision axis | What to verify | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 connection | PlayStation Link, USB 2.4 GHz transmitter, HDMI/base station or 3.5 mm cable | PS5 does not normally accept third-party Bluetooth headsets as direct wireless game-audio devices. USB and analog paths are the usual supported alternatives. |
| Phone audio | Simultaneous mix versus source switching | PULSE Elite and Nova 7P Gen 2 explicitly document simultaneous PlayStation/game and Bluetooth audio. Maxwell 2’s listed Bluetooth support does not establish that behavior. |
| Platform switching | One PS5, PS5 plus PC, or PS5 plus Xbox and PC/Mac | The A50 X explicitly documents switching among PS5, Xbox and PC/Mac; a USB-dongle headset may require moving the transmitter or using separate connections. |
| Drivers and microphone | Planar or conventional driver description; retractable, detachable or integrated microphone | These describe hardware and convenience, not a guaranteed sound or voice-quality ranking. |
| Battery and charging | “Up to,” “50+” or other manufacturer wording, plus quick-charge claim | Quoted figures are product specifications under unspecified conditions, not independent measurements. |
| Setup and price | Dongle versus HDMI base; current regional price and included accessories | A base station may be worthwhile for switching but unnecessary for a single-console setup. Prices and configurations change. |
Choose by use case
You play PS5 and take phone calls or listen to mobile audio
Start with the Nova 7P Wireless Gen 2 because SteelSeries explicitly documents simultaneous 2.4 GHz game audio and Bluetooth mobile audio. PULSE Elite remains the baseline if you already value Sony’s PlayStation Link ecosystem, but the Nova’s stated battery rating is longer. Maxwell 2 should only be selected for this use case after you confirm simultaneous behavior for the exact package.
You want the longest stated wireless sessions
Among the products with figures in the supplied specifications, Maxwell 2 is listed at 80-plus hours of low-latency wireless gameplay, Nova 7P Gen 2 at 50-plus hours and PULSE Elite at up to 30 hours. These numbers come from different manufacturers or a retailer listing and were not measured under a common test, so they are directional rather than a fair endurance ranking.
You switch between PS5, Xbox and PC/Mac
The A50 X is the only option here with an explicit PLAYSYNC description covering Xbox, PS5 and PC/Mac. Its HDMI 2.1 base is part of the value proposition. If your systems are in separate rooms or you do not want HDMI passthrough, a USB-dongle model may be easier even if switching is less seamless.

- DETACHABLE HYPERCLEAR CARDIOID 9.9MM MIC — The mic’s unidirectional pickup pattern ensures more voice and less noise, while its detachable design allows for easy removal when not in use

- 7.1 SURROUND SOUND — With our advanced 7.1 surround sound, enjoy true-to-life acoustics that optimizes the game’s sound design to hear everything like being right in the middle of it all
You want wireless console use and a PC dongle
Consider the BlackShark V2 Pro for PlayStation and Xbox after confirming the regional SKU and included USB transmitter. Nova 7P Gen 2 also fits this general pattern, but its strongest documented differentiator is simultaneous Bluetooth mobile audio.
You prefer a premium planar-driver design
Maxwell 2 is the targeted choice because its listing identifies the product as a premium wireless headset with the relevant platform support and long rated battery. Do not treat planar drivers as an objective guarantee of better sound without comparative testing.
Battery, charging and price claims: how to read them
Battery figures in this category are not directly comparable laboratory results. Sony says PULSE Elite lasts up to 30 hours and can gain up to two hours from a 10-minute charge. SteelSeries says Nova 7P Gen 2 lasts 50-plus hours and gains six hours from a 15-minute charge. PlayStation Direct lists Maxwell 2 at 80-plus hours of low-latency wireless gameplay. Each figure is attached to the originating brand or retailer, and actual runtime can change with volume, microphone use, wireless mode and other settings.
No fixed US checkout price should be assumed from a comparison table. The September 2026 guide’s US MSRP or list references are a dated snapshot, while the ASTRO page reviewed is UK-region. Check the current regional product page and retailer listing, including whether a transmitter, HDMI cable, adapter or charging accessory is in the box.
Troubleshoot the common PS5 connection failures
There is no game audio
- Confirm that the headset is in its 2.4 GHz or PlayStation Link mode, not Bluetooth-only mode.
- Reseat the USB transmitter or verify every HDMI and USB connection at the A50 X base.
- Open PS5 sound settings and select the connected USB or HDMI audio device.
- Test the headset on another supported port or device to separate a console setting issue from a hardware or cable issue.
Bluetooth pairs but the PS5 game is silent
This is expected when Bluetooth is being used only for the phone. Use the supplied USB wireless path or PlayStation Link for PS5 game audio. The PS5 FAQ’s Bluetooth limitation is why a Bluetooth pairing screen alone is not a compatibility test.
Phone audio replaces game audio instead of mixing
Check the model’s manual for simultaneous or dual-device operation. If the documentation only says Bluetooth connectivity, assume source switching until the manufacturer explicitly says otherwise. Nova 7P Gen 2 and PULSE Elite are the models in this comparison with explicit simultaneous-audio documentation.
Video settings changed after installing an A50 X
Recheck the PS5-to-base-to-display HDMI order, cable capability and display input. The A50 X’s documented 4K/120 Hz passthrough depends on the complete HDMI chain, not the headset alone.
Chat fails during a phone call
End the call and test PS5 party chat through the normal wireless path. Then consult the exact model’s current support documentation; simultaneous audio capability does not automatically describe microphone priority or chat routing.
Final buying guidance
Choose the Arctis Nova 7P Wireless Gen 2 for the clearest documented upgrade path from PULSE Elite’s dual-device idea: PS5 game audio over 2.4 GHz, phone audio over Bluetooth and a 50-plus-hour rated battery. Choose Audeze Maxwell 2 for a premium planar-driver alternative with an 80-plus-hour low-latency wireless gameplay specification, while accepting that simultaneous PS5/Bluetooth mixing is not established here. Choose ASTRO A50 X when PS5, Xbox and PC/Mac switching justifies an HDMI 2.1 base station. Choose BlackShark V2 Pro for PlayStation and Xbox when you want a simpler wireless console headset with USB-dongle PC use.
Whichever model you select, verify the exact PlayStation edition, the PS5 game-audio route, Bluetooth behavior, included accessories and current regional listing before paying. Those checks matter more than a generic “wireless” label.
