Best overall: the Razer Barracuda V2 Pro is the strongest choice when you want the USB receiver to travel with the headset. Its left earcup has a magnetic faceplate hiding the dongle, the earcups fold for packing, and it supports simultaneous 2.4GHz and Bluetooth 6.0 connections. Choose the HyperX Cloud MIX 2 for the longest stated battery life, or the NUBWO G06 Pro if you want a desk dock that also stores the receiver.

An included USB dongle is not the same as a headset with receiver storage. The models below are separated by how the receiver is retained, which wireless modes they support, how long their batteries are rated to last, and how practical they are away from a desk.

Best wireless headsets with receiver storage at a glance

Headset Storage method Wireless and wired connections Stated battery life Best fit Important qualification
Razer Barracuda V2 Pro Magnetic faceplate on the left earcup hides an integrated slot 2.4GHz, Bluetooth 6.0, USB-C; PC, mobile and console support Up to 70 hours with ANC off; up to 50 hours with ANC on Travel and multi-device use Runtime is a manufacturer rating; ANC changes the figure
HyperX Cloud MIX 2 USB-C dongle stores in the earcup 2.4GHz USB-C dongle, Bluetooth 5.3, wired connection; hybrid ANC Bluetooth: up to 110 hours ANC off or 70 hours ANC on; 2.4GHz: up to 72 hours ANC off or 52 hours ANC on Maximum battery endurance Specifications come from a retailer listing; confirm the regional model
NUBWO G06 Pro Built-in storage in the supplied desk dock 2.4GHz, Bluetooth 5.3 and wired connection; PS5-compatible dock Up to 120 hours Desk users who also travel occasionally The 120-hour figure is a stated claim; the dock is the intended home for the receiver
Alienware AW988 Internal headset slot; receiver clicks in and is held magnetically USB wireless receiver Not stated in the cited manual Historical reference Older model; current availability was not established
SteelSeries Arctis Nova 4, Nova 5 and Nova 7 No integrated storage documented on the reviewed product pages USB-C wireless dongles and broad platform support Varies by model; not used here as a storage claim Wireless connectivity without a confirmed storage slot Do not assume the receiver can be stored in the headset

For a receiver that physically stays with the headset, the first three models are the relevant shortlist. The SteelSeries Nova models can be sensible wireless headsets, but the available product information confirms a USB-C dongle rather than a compartment for keeping it.

Why built-in dongle storage matters

A 2.4GHz gaming headset normally needs a small USB receiver. If that receiver is left in a console, desktop, laptop bag or hub, it is easy to misplace when you move the headset. Storage changes the packing routine: remove the receiver from the host, put it into the headset or its dock, and the two essential pieces remain together.

Included receiver versus retained receiver

Product listings often advertise “USB dongle included.” That only says the accessory is in the box. It does not say the headset has a slot, magnetic recess or case compartment. A genuine retention feature should identify where the receiver goes and how it is held. The Barracuda V2 Pro uses a concealed earcup compartment, the Cloud MIX 2 uses an earcup slot, and the G06 Pro uses storage built into its dock.

Why 2.4GHz and Bluetooth are different jobs

The 2.4GHz link is the mode intended for low-latency gaming through the USB receiver. Bluetooth is useful for phones, tablets and other devices that do not accept the receiver, and it reduces the need to move the dongle between machines. A headset that supports both gives you a practical travel fallback, but Bluetooth availability does not remove the need to protect the 2.4GHz receiver when you want console or PC wireless performance.

Razer Barracuda V2 Pro: best overall for travel

Storage and portability

Razer describes the Barracuda V2 Pro as having “built-in dongle storage.” The receiver sits under a magnetic faceplate on the left earcup, according to the product description and the cited hands-on specifications. The faceplate keeps the accessory concealed instead of leaving it in a loose pouch. The earcups fold, so the headset occupies less room in a backpack than a fixed, non-folding design.

This combination is why it is the clearest recommendation for readers whose main problem is losing the receiver. The storage is part of the headset rather than an extra accessory, and the folding mechanism reduces the number of separate items you have to pack.

Wireless modes and device support

The headset supports simultaneous 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth 6.0. Razer lists PC, mobile and console connectivity; the cited specifications specifically identify PC, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch compatibility. Simultaneous connections can let you keep a gaming link active while remaining connected to a Bluetooth device, although the exact switching behavior depends on the host and the headset controls.

A USB-C connection is available for charging and wired use. The dual-mode microphone system consists of a detachable Razer HyperClear Full Band Mic and internal beamforming microphones, so you can remove the boom for mobile listening and use the built-in microphones when the boom is not attached.

Battery and noise control

Razer rates the battery for up to 70 hours with active noise cancellation (ANC) off and up to 50 hours with ANC on. Those are different operating conditions, not two batteries or a guarantee of identical runtime in every game, volume setting and connection mode. If you travel with ANC enabled, plan around the lower figure.

The headset also advertises 7.1.4 surround sound. Treat that as a processing feature for compatible content rather than evidence that every game will sound better; positional results depend on the game mix, platform and your settings.

Who should buy it

  • Travelers who want the receiver physically attached to the headset.
  • Players moving between a PC, a console and a phone.
  • Anyone who values foldable earcups and a detachable boom microphone.

Its main compromise in this group is battery life: the Cloud MIX 2 and G06 Pro advertise longer maximum runtimes. If the smallest chance of losing the dongle matters more than absolute endurance, the Barracuda V2 Pro remains the more balanced pick.

HyperX Cloud MIX 2: longest stated battery life

Earcup receiver storage

The Cloud MIX 2 stores its USB-C receiver in the earcup. That is the same basic retention idea as the Razer, but the storage is described as an earcup slot rather than a magnetic faceplate compartment. When packing, check that the receiver is fully seated before putting the headset in a bag.

Wireless, ANC and wired options

The listed connections are a 2.4GHz USB-C dongle and Bluetooth 5.3, with a wired mode also available. Hybrid ANC is included. Because the wireless specifications come from a retailer listing, verify that the regional model you are buying has the same dongle type, Bluetooth version and microphone or cable accessories.

Battery figures by connection and ANC state

Connection ANC off ANC on
Bluetooth Up to 110 hours Up to 70 hours
2.4GHz Up to 72 hours Up to 52 hours

The 110-hour figure applies to Bluetooth with ANC off, not to 2.4GHz gaming. For gaming over the USB receiver, the relevant maximum is 72 hours with ANC off or 52 hours with ANC on. These are listing specifications and should be treated as rated maxima rather than a promise for a particular volume level or battery age.

Who should buy it

Pick the Cloud MIX 2 when you want an earcup-stored receiver but expect to spend long stretches in Bluetooth mode, where its stated endurance is highest. It is also a strong option for users who want ANC and a wired fallback in the same headset. Confirm the exact regional package before paying, especially if the seller lists several Cloud MIX 2 variants.

NUBWO G06 Pro: best for a dock-based setup

How its storage works

The G06 Pro takes a different approach: its supplied dock has built-in dongle storage. The dock gives the receiver a fixed home on a desk, so the headset and USB accessory can be returned to one place after each session. This is useful if your main concern is misplacing the dongle at home rather than carrying it inside an earcup.

A dock is not the same as an internal headset compartment. If you leave the dock behind when traveling, the receiver still needs a separate safe place unless you move it into a travel case or another container. The dock-oriented design therefore suits a desk-first routine better than a minimalist travel kit.

Connections and battery claim

NUBWO lists 2.4GHz wireless, Bluetooth 5.3 and wired connectivity. The dock is described as PS5-compatible. The company states up to 120 hours of battery life, the highest figure among the current storage-focused options in this guide. As with every manufacturer runtime, actual hours vary with connection mode, volume, microphone activity and other features.

Who should buy it

  • Players who want a permanent desk location for the headset and receiver.
  • PS5 users looking for a dock-centered arrangement.
  • Buyers prioritizing a very high stated battery figure over a concealed earcup compartment.

Choose an earcup-storage model instead if you regularly leave the dock at home and need the receiver to remain attached to the headset while traveling.

Alienware AW988: useful historical context, not a current recommendation

The AW988 user guide documents a receiver slot inside the headset. The receiver is pushed into the slot until it clicks; pressing it again releases it, and a magnet helps hold it for removal. That is a clear example of the retention feature readers are asking about.

If you find one on the used market, check the condition of the receiver, battery and compatibility before relying on it for current hardware.

SteelSeries Nova models: wireless alternatives without confirmed storage

Product pages for the Arctis Nova 4, Nova 5 and Nova 7 confirm USB-C wireless dongles and broad platform support. The reviewed pages do not document an integrated slot in the headset or a receiver compartment. That distinction matters: a USB-C dongle can be small and convenient while still being easy to lose.

Consider a Nova model only if its other features fit your setup and you are willing to carry the receiver separately. Do not buy it expecting the receiver to hide inside an earcup unless the exact model’s current manual or product page explicitly shows that feature.

Setup and packing checklist

  1. Charge the headset before pairing. Use the supplied USB-C cable or a compatible charger, then confirm that the headset powers on.
  2. Connect the 2.4GHz receiver to the gaming device. Insert the USB or USB-C receiver into a port on the PC or console. If your console requires an adapter, use the adapter specified for that model rather than forcing the plug.
  3. Select the receiver mode. Turn on the headset and choose its 2.4GHz mode using the headset’s wireless control. The exact button or switch differs by model, so follow the model manual if it does not connect automatically.
  4. Pair Bluetooth separately when needed. Put the headset into Bluetooth pairing mode, open the phone or tablet’s Bluetooth settings, and select the headset name. Bluetooth pairing does not replace the 2.4GHz receiver for devices that depend on USB wireless.
  5. Test audio and microphone before leaving. Play sound, speak into the microphone and confirm that the host selected the headset rather than its built-in speakers and microphone.
  6. Store the receiver immediately after unplugging. On the Barracuda V2 Pro, open the magnetic left-earcup faceplate; on the Cloud MIX 2, place the receiver in its earcup slot; with the G06 Pro, return it to the dock.
  7. Check retention. Close the faceplate or slot cover fully, or verify that the receiver is seated in the dock. Do not pack a loose receiver in a pocket where it can be bent or lost.
  8. Pack a wired fallback. A USB-C or audio cable can keep the headset usable if the battery is empty, the host rejects wireless audio or you are on a device without the correct receiver port.

Common problems and fixes

The headset is wireless, but the receiver is missing

Check the earcup compartment or dock first, then the last host device and any USB hub. For models without documented storage, search the cable pouch and the port where the headset was last used. If the receiver cannot be found, Bluetooth may still work on models that support it, but that does not restore the low-latency 2.4GHz connection.

The receiver is stored but the headset will not connect

Remove the receiver from its storage slot and connect it to the host. Make sure the headset is in 2.4GHz mode rather than Bluetooth, and try a different USB port if the host does not detect it. Restarting the headset and host can clear a failed pairing state. Do not assume that a USB-C-shaped connector guarantees identical console support across models.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Battery life is lower than the headline number

Check which figure applies to your mode. The Cloud MIX 2’s 110-hour claim is Bluetooth with ANC off, while 2.4GHz and ANC reduce the listed maximum. The Barracuda V2 Pro is rated for 70 hours with ANC off and 50 hours with it on. Volume, microphone use, wireless activity and battery age can reduce runtime further.

The headset does not fit the intended console

Confirm support for the exact console and regional model before purchase. The Barracuda V2 Pro is listed for PC, PS5 and Switch, and the G06 Pro dock is described as PS5-compatible. The Cloud MIX 2 specifications cited here do not establish a complete console list, so verify the seller’s current compatibility information.

A product page mentions a dongle but not storage

Treat that as a normal wireless headset, not a receiver-retention model. The Nova 4, Nova 5 and Nova 7 pages are examples: they confirm USB-C dongles but do not document a storage slot. Look for an explicit compartment, earcup slot, magnetic cover or dock storage description before relying on the feature.

Buying and warranty checks

Prices, sellers, warranty terms and marketplace bundles change by country and over time. Before ordering, verify the exact model name, the included receiver type, the charging cable, console compatibility and whether the warranty is provided by the manufacturer or the seller. For the Cloud MIX 2 in particular, confirm the regional listing because the battery and connection specifications cited above come from a retailer page.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Also inspect photographs or the current manual for the storage mechanism. A generic product image showing a loose USB receiver is not proof that the headset has a compartment. The safest evidence is a clearly labeled storage slot or a manufacturer description that identifies where the receiver is kept.

Verdict

Buy the Razer Barracuda V2 Pro when convenient receiver storage, foldability and cross-device use are your priorities. Choose the HyperX Cloud MIX 2 if its earcup storage and Bluetooth battery rating matter most. Choose the NUBWO G06 Pro for a dock-centered desk setup and the highest stated battery figure. Treat the Alienware AW988 as historical information, and do not assume a SteelSeries Nova receiver can be stored in the headset without model-specific documentation.
