For most PC and PlayStation players, SteelSeries Arctis GameBuds are the best all-around wireless gaming earbuds. They combine a low-latency 2.4GHz USB connection, Bluetooth 5.3, active noise cancellation (ANC), transparency mode, up to 10 hours per charge and 40 hours with the case. Xbox owners should buy the separate Xbox edition. If Xbox is your primary platform, Razer Hammerhead HyperSpeed is the more natural starting point; Sony INZONE Buds are the focused PC/PS5 pick for buyers who want a dedicated USB-transceiver link and Sony’s stated latency below 30 ms.

Best wireless gaming earbuds at a glance

Wireless earbuds are not automatically suitable for games. The connection method matters more than the word “wireless” on the box. For competitive play, use the supplied 2.4GHz USB dongle or transceiver whenever the platform supports it. Bluetooth is convenient for phones and general listening, but ordinary Bluetooth audio can introduce enough delay to make dialogue, gunshots and rhythm-game inputs feel out of sync.

Why a 2.4GHz dongle is better for gaming

A dedicated 2.4GHz link sends game audio through a USB receiver tuned for low delay. RTINGS identifies USB-C wireless dongles as the low-latency route for PC, PlayStation and Xbox gaming, while PC Gamer explains that a dedicated gaming mode or dongle reduces delay compared with ordinary Bluetooth.

What latency feels like

With low-delay wireless, a character’s footstep, weapon report or menu sound arrives close to the on-screen event. With a slower Bluetooth path, the sound can trail the picture. The effect is most obvious in rhythm games, competitive shooters and games that use audio cues for timing. A few milliseconds are not equally important to every player, but anyone sensitive to synchronization should use the dongle.

When Bluetooth is still useful

Bluetooth remains valuable for a phone, tablet, laptop without a free USB port or non-gaming listening. Dual-mode earbuds let you leave the dongle connected to a console or PC and switch to Bluetooth elsewhere. Do not assume Bluetooth will provide the same latency as the 2.4GHz mode; select the gaming connection for play.

Check your platform before choosing a model

PC

All four candidates are designed around USB wireless or Bluetooth, but the exact USB connector and operating-system behavior differ. A USB-C dongle can plug directly into a modern port; a USB-A adapter may be required on a desktop or older laptop if the package includes one. On PC, install any current companion software only after the earbuds are recognized, then check firmware, equalizer, microphone and connection-mode settings.

PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4

Use the 2.4GHz receiver or Sony’s USB transceiver rather than ordinary Bluetooth. SteelSeries sells a PlayStation edition of Arctis GameBuds; its support information describes that model as a single-mode connection for PlayStation and PC. Sony INZONE Buds document a USB-transceiver connection to PC and PS5, with a switch position for PC or PS5/MOBILE. Razer lists PS5 and PS4 compatibility for Hammerhead HyperSpeed, but verify that the package variant you buy includes the appropriate receiver.

Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One

Xbox compatibility is the easiest place to make an expensive mistake. SteelSeries sells separate PlayStation and Xbox GameBuds editions, so the PlayStation model is not the correct purchase for an Xbox console. Razer lists Hammerhead HyperSpeed support for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, as well as PlayStation, PC, Mac, smartphones, tablets and handhelds with USB or Bluetooth audio. Confirm the exact Xbox-labeled package before ordering.

Handhelds and mobile devices

USB-C dongles are practical on handhelds with a USB-C audio-capable port, while Bluetooth works on phones and tablets. Razer explicitly lists handhelds with USB or Bluetooth audio. ASUS positions the Cetra True Wireless SpeedNova as a 2.4GHz USB-C and Bluetooth product, but its current platform support and inventory should be checked before purchase.

SteelSeries Arctis GameBuds: best overall for PC and PlayStation

Arctis GameBuds offer the broadest feature balance in this group for a PC/PlayStation household. SteelSeries lists high-speed 2.4GHz wireless, Bluetooth 5.3, ANC and transparency mode. The product also includes more than 100 PlayStation audio presets, giving PS5 and PS4 users a way to tune sound for particular games without relying only on a system-wide setting.

Battery, protection and editions

SteelSeries rates the earbuds for 10 hours per charge and 40 hours total with the charging case. The same product information lists IP55 protection, which is useful against dust and light water exposure but does not make the earbuds waterproof for swimming or immersion. Battery life is a rated figure rather than an independent test result.

Which edition to buy

  • PlayStation edition: choose this for PS5, PS4 and PC use when the PlayStation/PC connection described by SteelSeries matches your setup.
  • Xbox edition: choose this for Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One. It is a separate product, not merely a color or firmware option.

Arctis GameBuds are the strongest default recommendation when you want one pair for console and PC, need both dongle and Bluetooth modes, and value ANC or transparency for use outside the game room.

Razer Hammerhead HyperSpeed: best Xbox-oriented alternative

Hammerhead HyperSpeed uses Razer’s 2.4GHz HyperSpeed connection through a USB-C dongle and also supports Bluetooth 5.2. Razer lists compatibility with Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, PC, Mac, smartphones, tablets and handhelds that provide USB or Bluetooth audio. That platform list makes it the most explicitly Xbox-oriented option in this comparison while still leaving room for other devices.

Battery claim and hardware

Razer specifies 10 mm drivers and reports up to 15 hours of total battery in its stated Xbox test with lighting and ANC turned off. That condition matters: enabling lighting or ANC will change runtime, and the figure is a manufacturer result rather than an independent measurement.

Who should choose it

Pick Hammerhead HyperSpeed when Xbox is your primary console, you want to move the earbuds between Xbox and other systems, and the listed USB-C dongle arrangement fits your hardware. Check the box carefully because regional or platform-specific variants can differ even when the product family name is similar.

Sony INZONE Buds: focused low-latency choice for PC and PS5

INZONE Buds are aimed at players who want a dedicated USB-transceiver connection rather than a general-purpose Bluetooth headset. Sony documents a transceiver switch with positions for PC or PS5/MOBILE, so the receiver must be set correctly for the device in use.

Latency

Sony’s 2023 product press release states: “The INZONE Buds come with a USB-C® dongle connection that provides latency of less than 30ms, meaning there will be nothing to hold you back.” Treat that as Sony’s published specification, not a universal result measured in every game, computer or console setup.

Best use case and limitation

Choose INZONE Buds if you mainly play on PC and PS5 and want Sony’s stated sub-30-ms dongle latency. The supplied information does not establish a battery-runtime figure or Bluetooth specification, so buyers who need long sessions away from the transceiver should verify those details on the current product listing.

ASUS ROG Cetra True Wireless SpeedNova: flexible dual-mode option

ASUS lists a 2.4GHz USB-C dongle for ROG Cetra True Wireless SpeedNova and describes Bluetooth as the companion mode for phones and non-gaming listening. That makes it appealing if you want one pair to cover low-latency play and everyday mobile audio without carrying a separate headset.

The supplied specifications do not establish a current battery figure, microphone rating or complete console-compatibility matrix. Verify the platform list, firmware requirements, included adapters and stock for your region before buying. It is a promising dual-mode choice, but the lack of comparable published figures makes it harder to rank above the three better-documented options for a specific console.

How to choose between the four

Choose by primary console

  • PlayStation and PC: start with SteelSeries Arctis GameBuds in the PlayStation edition. Choose Sony INZONE Buds instead if the dedicated transceiver and Sony’s sub-30-ms claim matter more than broad feature coverage.
  • Xbox: select the Xbox edition of Arctis GameBuds or Razer Hammerhead HyperSpeed. Razer is the clearer Xbox-first alternative because its compatibility list explicitly includes both Xbox generations and several other platforms.
  • Mixed PC, console and mobile use: favor a model with both 2.4GHz and Bluetooth. Arctis GameBuds, Hammerhead HyperSpeed and Cetra True Wireless SpeedNova all fit that pattern, subject to the exact console edition and current support.

Choose by connection priority

  • Lowest practical gaming delay: use the supplied 2.4GHz dongle or USB transceiver.
  • Fewest cables for a phone: use Bluetooth, accepting that ordinary Bluetooth may have more delay.
  • Multiple devices: confirm whether switching requires a physical button, an app or unplugging the receiver; the supplied specifications do not establish identical switching behavior across models.

Choose by environment

  • Noisy room: ANC can reduce steady background noise. It does not remove every voice, keyboard sound or sudden impact.
  • You need to hear people or alerts: transparency mode is useful, and Arctis GameBuds explicitly include it.
  • Long sessions: compare per-charge runtime, not only the case total. A case figure does not tell you how long a single uninterrupted session will last.

Setup: connect wireless gaming earbuds without adding delay

  1. Charge the earbuds and case before the first long session. Keep the receiver and any included adapter together so you do not accidentally use Bluetooth when you intended the gaming link.
  2. Connect the USB receiver. Plug the 2.4GHz dongle or Sony transceiver into the console or PC. On a desktop, use the included USB-A adapter if the receiver is USB-C and the computer lacks a suitable USB-C port.
  3. Select the correct hardware mode. For Sony INZONE Buds, set the transceiver switch to PC or PS5/MOBILE as appropriate. For SteelSeries, make sure you purchased the PlayStation or Xbox edition that matches the console.
  4. Set the system output and input. In the console or operating-system audio menu, select the earbuds as both output and microphone when you want voice chat. If the system continues using speakers, disconnect other USB audio devices temporarily and reselect the earbuds.
  5. Pair Bluetooth separately. Put the earbuds into Bluetooth pairing mode and select them on a phone or tablet. Keep the dongle connection active for gaming; switching to Bluetooth is not a latency upgrade.
  6. Update firmware and tune sound. If the manufacturer’s companion software recognizes the earbuds, install offered firmware, then configure equalizer, ANC/transparency and microphone settings. Test a game and a voice-chat recording after every major change.

Microphone, fit and comfort: what specifications do not tell you

The supplied product information does not provide standardized microphone measurements for these models, so do not infer call quality from driver size, Bluetooth version or battery capacity. Microphone performance depends on the earbud’s position, background noise, console processing and the chat application.

Fit is equally personal. Use the supplied ear-tip sizes, insert both earbuds consistently and test them for 15 to 20 minutes before judging comfort. A secure seal improves bass and passive isolation; an overly tight seal can create pressure during long sessions. If one side loses bass or ANC seems uneven, refit the tips before changing equalizer settings.

Battery and charging expectations

Published battery numbers are not directly comparable unless the test conditions match. SteelSeries’ 10-hour-per-charge and 40-hour-case figures and Razer’s up-to-15-hour total Xbox figure were produced under different stated conditions; Razer’s number specifically turns lighting and ANC off. Volume, microphone use, radio distance, ANC, transparency and temperature all affect real runtime.

Because the supplied specifications do not state a common charging method or recharge time for every model, verify whether your preferred package includes a USB cable, adapter or another charging accessory. Check the case level before a tournament or travel day rather than relying on the headline total.

Troubleshooting common problems

Audio is delayed

  • Switch from Bluetooth to the 2.4GHz dongle or USB transceiver.
  • Confirm the receiver is selected as the system output instead of a television, controller or motherboard Bluetooth device.
  • Move the receiver closer to the earbuds with a short USB extension if the console is enclosed in a cabinet.

The console does not detect the microphone

  • Recheck the input-device selection and the game’s own voice-chat menu.
  • Mute and unmute the earbuds once, then reconnect the receiver.
  • On Xbox, verify that you bought the Xbox-compatible edition rather than a PlayStation-only package.

One earbud will not connect

  • Place both earbuds in the case, close it briefly and retry pairing.
  • Remove an old Bluetooth pairing from the phone or PC if the earbuds keep connecting to the wrong device.
  • Install any available firmware update through the manufacturer’s software before repeating the pairing process.

Battery life is much lower than advertised

  • Turn off lighting and ANC to compare with Razer’s stated test condition.
  • Lower volume and disable unused Bluetooth connections.
  • Check whether the case is actually charging and whether the earbuds make contact with its charging pins.

What to verify before ordering

  • Exact platform edition, especially PlayStation versus Xbox GameBuds.
  • Whether your console or PC has a suitable USB-A or USB-C port and whether an adapter is included.
  • Whether the package contains the 2.4GHz receiver or transceiver; Bluetooth alone is not the low-latency gaming path.
  • Current firmware, platform support, stock and regional availability.
  • Current price and return policy. No current price is established in the supplied specifications, and listings can change.
  • Per-charge battery life under the features you intend to use, not only the case-total headline.

Verdict

Buy SteelSeries Arctis GameBuds in the correct console edition for the most complete PC-and-console feature set: 2.4GHz gaming wireless, Bluetooth 5.3, ANC, transparency, PlayStation presets and clearly stated battery figures. Choose Razer Hammerhead HyperSpeed when Xbox is your priority, Sony INZONE Buds when PC/PS5 low-latency focus is the deciding factor, and ASUS ROG Cetra True Wireless SpeedNova when dual-mode flexibility is more important than a fully documented comparison table.
