For most Samsung Galaxy owners, the best first choice is Samsung’s built-in widget picker. It already provides weather, routines, email, battery, clock and other app information, plus supported resizing, stacking and lock-screen widgets. Choose Good Lock when you want Samsung-specific lock-screen, Always On Display (AOD), clock or One UI Home customization. Choose KWGT Kustom Widget Maker when you want to design your own home-screen widget layouts and are prepared to spend time configuring them.
These are use-case recommendations rather than a laboratory ranking. No comparative phone testing established a universal winner, and Samsung notes that widget and module availability can change with your Galaxy model, carrier and software version.
Quick comparison
| Option | Best for | Customization supported by the cited listings | Where it applies | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung built-in widgets | Most users who want useful information quickly | Samsung documents selecting, placing, resizing where supported, customizing, moving, removing and stacking widgets | Home screen; supported lock-screen widgets also appear on AOD when AOD is enabled | Availability varies by model, carrier, software version and widget |
| Samsung Good Lock | Galaxy interface and lock-screen customization | Modules include LockStar for lock-screen and AOD styles, ClockFace for clock styles and Home Up for an improved One UI Home experience | Galaxy interface areas named by each module, including lock screen and AOD | Samsung says some devices may not be supported; it is a customization suite, not a general widget library |
| KWGT Kustom Widget Maker | People who want to build custom home-screen designs | Visual editor for custom layouts, with examples including photo, weather, clock, system-monitor and music widgets; supports interactive actions and advanced data features | Home screen according to the Google Play listing | Contains ads and in-app purchases; a separate Pro Key removes ads and enables importing presets from external storage and skins |
The table describes documented capabilities, not identical behavior on every Galaxy phone. One UI revisions, regional firmware, carrier software and app updates can change what appears in your own widget picker.
Start with Samsung’s built-in widgets
Galaxy phones include widgets before you install anything. A widget is a compact home-screen or lock-screen view that exposes information or an action from an app without requiring you to open the full app. Samsung’s examples include weather, routines and email on the home screen, and Battery, Clock and Reminder on the lock screen.

- TYPE IT IN. TRANSFORM IT FAST: Enhance any shot in seconds on your smartphone by using Photo Assist² with Galaxy AI.³ Add objects, restore details, or apply new styles by simply typing or tapping

- MAKE IT. EDIT IT. SHARE IT: Turn everyday moments into something personal with creative tools built right into your mobile phone, whether it’s a special contact photo, custom wallpaper, an invitation or more⁴
- HELP THAT KEEPS UP: Stay in the moment while Now Nudge with Galaxy AI helps you respond faster and stay organized with smart suggestions⁵ that appear exactly when you need them on your phone
This built-in option is the sensible default because it answers the basic question—“How do I add a widget to my Samsung phone?”—without introducing another editor or compatibility layer. You can find out what your specific model supports in less than a minute.
Add a widget to the home screen
- Touch and hold an empty area of the home screen.
- Tap Widgets.
- Browse the available apps and widget categories.
- Touch and hold the widget you want, then drag it to the desired home-screen panel.
- Complete any configuration the widget presents, such as selecting an account, location or display style.
The labels and available controls can differ by One UI version. If a widget does not appear in the picker, that absence may reflect the phone’s software, carrier build, installed app version or the developer’s support for that device.
Resize, customize and organize it
Samsung documents resizing when a widget supports it. Touch and hold the placed widget, then use the handles or the available settings to change its footprint. The same long-press menu can expose customization, removal or repositioning options, although the exact choices depend on the widget.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Widget stacks let you place multiple compatible widgets in one area and move between them rather than reserving a separate block for each one. If stacking is offered on your phone, use the widget’s long-press controls to add or manage the stack. Do not assume every widget can be stacked; Samsung’s support information treats stacking and other controls as feature-dependent.
Use lock-screen widgets and AOD
Samsung also documents lock-screen widgets, with examples such as Battery, Clock and Reminder. To inspect them, open your phone’s lock-screen customization interface, select the widget area and review the choices available on your model. The path and wording vary by One UI release, so follow the controls shown on your phone rather than relying on a universal menu name.
When lock-screen widgets are supported and Always On Display is enabled, Samsung says those widgets also appear on AOD. That does not mean every home-screen widget can be placed on the lock screen; the lock-screen picker determines which widgets are eligible.

It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).

Choose Good Lock for Galaxy-specific customization
Samsung describes Good Lock as “an app that helps Samsung smartphone users use their smartphones more conveniently.” The app is a suite of downloadable modules for changing parts of the Galaxy interface. It is useful when your goal is to tune Samsung’s own lock screen, clock or home experience rather than to install a broad catalog of independent widgets.

- LockStar: Samsung’s listing identifies it for lock-screen and Always On Display styles.
- ClockFace: Provides additional clock styles for supported Galaxy interface areas.
- Home Up: Adds an improved One UI Home experience, according to the listing.
These descriptions support recommending Good Lock for interface customization. They do not establish that every module creates a third-party widget, nor that every module is available on every Galaxy phone.
Install and check support
- Open the Google Play Store on your Galaxy phone and search for Samsung’s Good Lock app.
- Install or update the app, then open it.
- Review the modules shown for your device. Install only the module that matches the area you want to change, such as LockStar for lock-screen or AOD styling.
- Open the module and inspect its available layouts, clocks or controls.
- Apply a change, lock the phone or return to the home screen, and verify the result.
Samsung’s listing warns that some devices may not be supported. A missing module, absent setting or different layout is therefore a compatibility issue to check—not evidence that you installed it incorrectly. Availability can also change after a One UI update.
When Good Lock is the better choice
Good Lock fits a Galaxy owner who already likes Samsung’s design language but wants more control over the lock screen, AOD, clock presentation or One UI Home behavior. It is less appropriate if your main requirement is a completely custom data dashboard with independently positioned weather, music and monitoring elements; that is the use case KWGT addresses.
Choose KWGT when you want to design the widget yourself
KWGT Kustom Widget Maker is the option for readers who want to build a home-screen widget rather than select from Samsung’s predefined layouts. Its Google Play listing describes a visual editor for creating layouts and gives examples such as photo, weather, clock, system-monitor and music widgets. It also lists interactive actions and advanced data features.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
That flexibility comes with a higher setup burden than Samsung’s widget picker. You choose the canvas, add elements, set sizes and positions, define data sources and configure actions. The result can be highly personal, but it is not the quickest route to a basic clock or weather panel.

Build a first KWGT widget
- Install KWGT from Google Play.
- On the home screen, touch and hold an empty area, tap Widgets, find KWGT and drag a KWGT widget size to an empty panel.
- Tap the newly placed KWGT widget to open its editor.
- Choose a blank layout or a preset available in the app.
- Add and arrange elements such as text, images, weather values, clocks, music controls or system information.
- Configure colors, typography, spacing, data fields and any interactive actions offered by the editor.
- Save the layout, return to the home screen and adjust the widget’s size if the content is clipped.
The exact editor controls and available data sources can change with app updates. KWGT’s listing describes home-screen widgets; it does not establish support for every Samsung lock-screen widget area, so do not buy or configure it expecting universal lock-screen placement.
Understand the free and Pro arrangements
The Google Play listing identifies ads and in-app purchases and links to a separate KWGT Pro Key listing. The listing describes Pro as removing ads and enabling import of presets from external storage and skins. You do not need to assume that every user must purchase Pro to create a widget; decide based on whether you need those particular features.
Google Play displayed more than 10 million downloads for KWGT when the listing was accessed on October 13, 2026. That is a platform-displayed listing metric, not a dated comparative test and not proof of quality, compatibility or superiority over Samsung’s built-in tools or Good Lock.
Pick by the job you need done
You want a clock, weather or routine shortcut with minimal setup
Open Samsung’s widget picker first. It exposes the widgets already integrated with your installed apps, and Samsung documents the basic placement and management flow. Use the built-in customization controls before adding another app.
You want a different lock screen, AOD or Samsung clock style
Try Good Lock, beginning with the module whose name matches your target area: LockStar for lock-screen and AOD styles, or ClockFace for clock styles. Check the module list on your phone because support is device-dependent.
You want a dashboard that matches your own layout
Use KWGT if you are willing to design and tune the widget. It is the strongest fit among these options for combining custom visual elements, data and actions in a home-screen layout. Plan for editor work rather than a one-tap preset.

You want to change several parts of the Galaxy interface
Good Lock is more suitable than KWGT when the changes involve Samsung’s lock screen, AOD, clock system or One UI Home behavior. KWGT remains focused on custom home-screen widgets, while Good Lock’s documented modules target Galaxy interface components.

Samsung’s support material and One UI information repeatedly qualify features by model, software version, carrier and region. Good Lock separately warns that some devices may not be supported. Treat compatibility as a per-phone check, especially after a major system update.
- Record your Galaxy model and current One UI version in Settings before troubleshooting.
- Open the home-screen widget picker and confirm whether the widget or KWGT size you want is listed.
- For lock-screen changes, open the lock-screen customization controls and check the widgets and modules actually offered.
- Update the relevant app and Samsung system software through the normal update screens, then recheck availability.
- If a feature is missing, compare the result with Samsung’s support guidance for your model instead of assuming a universal Galaxy layout.
Samsung’s Galaxy widget support page was updated May 23, 2026. Good Lock and KWGT store listings showed update dates of July 19, 2026 and July 30, 2026, respectively, when reviewed. Store descriptions and supported-device lists are volatile, so the current listing on your phone is the final check.

The widget is not in the picker
Confirm that the underlying app is installed and updated, then reopen the picker. If it still does not appear, the app may not provide a widget for your software build, the feature may be limited by the device, or the carrier’s firmware may differ. Installing a second widget app will not automatically add support for a missing Samsung lock-screen slot.
The widget is cut off or too small
Touch and hold it, resize it if handles are available, and reduce the amount of content in the widget’s own settings. KWGT layouts may require both resizing the home-screen container and adjusting elements inside the editor.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsA lock-screen widget does not appear on AOD
Verify that Always On Display is enabled and that the item is a supported lock-screen widget. Samsung’s statement applies to supported lock-screen widgets; it is not a promise that every home-screen widget can be mirrored on AOD.

Good Lock has fewer controls than expected
Check whether your model, region, carrier and One UI version support the module. Samsung explicitly notes that some devices may not be supported, and module behavior can change with updates.
KWGT does not import a preset or skin
Check whether the feature requires the separate Pro Key, because the listing associates external-storage preset and skin imports with Pro. Also verify that the file is available to the app and that the layout is intended for a home-screen KWGT container.
What not to infer from app popularity
A download figure, store rating or prominent placement is not a substitute for a device-specific compatibility check. The only quantified popularity figure established here is KWGT’s 10M+ Google Play downloads as displayed on October 13, 2026. It does not measure setup effort, battery impact, reliability or feature coverage on your particular Galaxy phone.

Likewise, the absence of a feature in one Galaxy build does not prove that Samsung removed it universally. Model, carrier, region and One UI version all matter, so describe your result in those terms when asking for support.
Recommendation
Use Samsung’s built-in widgets unless you have a specific reason to add another tool. They cover the everyday information and shortcut use case, include documented home-screen and supported lock-screen behavior, and require the fewest moving parts.
Move to Good Lock for Samsung-native interface customization—especially LockStar, ClockFace or Home Up—and choose KWGT when a custom-designed home-screen layout matters more than quick setup. Check the current widget picker and module availability on your own Galaxy phone before committing, because no single option is guaranteed across every model or software version.
