For a large, quality-critical move, use a USB data cable and the computer’s official import app. Connect an iPhone or iPad to a Mac and import with Photos, or to Windows with Apple Devices and Microsoft Photos. Nearby Apple devices can use AirDrop; supported Android phones can use Quick Share to AirDrop-compatible Apple devices, with a QR-code fallback. iCloud Photos is best for continuous library access, not as your only independent backup.

Whatever method you choose, transfer the original file rather than an unspecified message attachment, then compare the received file’s dimensions and format with the source. The exact best route depends on the phone, computer, batch size, internet access and whether you need a one-time copy or ongoing synchronization.

Choose the method that fits your devices and goal

Method Best use Requirements and checks Important trade-offs
USB cable plus import app Large batches, offline transfer and a local computer copy Data-capable cable, unlocked and trusted phone, enough computer storage; for iCloud Photos on iPhone-to-Windows, full-resolution originals must be downloaded to the phone first Needs a cable and the correct computer app; a charge-only cable will not work
AirDrop Nearby Apple-to-Apple sharing Both devices support AirDrop, the recipient is visible and accepts the transfer Convenient nearby workflow, but not a universal Windows or Android solution
Quick Share with AirDrop interoperability Nearby Android-to-supported Apple sharing Exact Android model and software support, Bluetooth/Wi-Fi proximity, AirDrop visibility and recipient acceptance Availability varies by model, rollout and region
Quick Share QR flow Android-to-Apple sharing when direct interoperability is unavailable Internet access on both devices; recipient scans and downloads Files are temporarily available for 24 hours; the documented limit is 10 GB per 24 hours and 1,000 files per session
iCloud Photos Ongoing synchronization across Apple devices and web or PC access Enough iCloud capacity and a decision about original versus optimized device storage Uses cloud storage and synchronizes deletions; it is not automatically a separate archive
Phone Link and Link to Windows Small, locally stored Android-to-Windows transfers Windows 11, Android 10 or later and the stated app versions; same Wi-Fi for documented drag-and-drop Drag-and-drop is limited to 100 files and 512 MB per file; cloud-backed items and folders are excluded

For a one-time archive, start with USB. For a few nearby files, use AirDrop or supported Quick Share. For a library that should remain available on multiple Apple devices, use iCloud Photos while maintaining a separate backup if you need one.

What full resolution means in practice

A full-resolution transfer delivers the original photo file, not a resized preview or a device-optimized placeholder. The original’s pixel dimensions and file format should match the source. Resolution alone does not prove that every metadata field survived: the official guidance available for these methods does not provide a method-by-method metadata comparison, so check metadata separately when date, location or camera information matters.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

How to verify a transfer

  1. Before sending, note the source file’s pixel dimensions, format and file size in the phone’s information panel or the computer’s file properties.
  2. After receiving, open the destination file’s properties and compare those values. A different extension, smaller dimensions or dramatically smaller file size indicates that a converted or reduced copy may have been transferred.
  3. Open several files, including the largest and a file from each album or date range, rather than checking only one.
  4. Only delete the source after the destination opens correctly and the copy is stored where you intended. A synchronized library and a backup are different: deleting a synchronized item can remove it from other synchronized devices.

Transfer iPhone or iPad photos to a Mac with USB

Apple’s documented wired route uses a USB cable and the Photos app. It works without an internet connection and is suitable for a large import. Follow Apple’s current instructions at Transfer photos and videos from your iPhone or iPad to your Mac or PC.

  1. Connect the iPhone or iPad to the Mac with a USB cable that supports data.
  2. Unlock the device. If a prompt asks whether to allow the accessory, approve it; if the Mac asks whether to trust the computer, choose Trust and enter the device passcode.
  3. Open Photos on the Mac. If the import screen does not appear, select the iPhone or iPad in Photos’ sidebar.
  4. Choose an existing destination album or create one, then select Import Selected or Import All New Photos, depending on whether you want a controlled batch or every new item.
  5. Keep the device connected until Photos reports that the import has finished. Eject or safely disconnect it afterward.

Import directly into a folder

If you do not want the Photos library, Apple points to Image Capture as a way to import directly to a folder. Choose the connected device in Image Capture, set the destination folder, select the items and start the import. This creates ordinary files that you can organize, copy to external storage or include in another backup system.

If iCloud Photos is already enabled

With iCloud Photos enabled, photos synchronize automatically to a Mac signed in to the same Apple Account. A cable import remains useful when you are not using iCloud Photos or when iCloud storage is full. If the Mac shows the library through synchronization, confirm that the originals have downloaded before treating the Mac as an offline archive.

Important iCloud Photos warning

When iCloud Photos is enabled, the iPhone or iPad may keep device-optimized copies while the full-resolution originals remain in iCloud. Apple says you must download the originals to the device before importing them over USB to Windows; an optimized placeholder is not the original file available for import. Make space on the device if necessary, allow the originals to finish downloading, then repeat the import.

Choosing a Windows-friendly camera format

Apple’s Camera settings include Formats > Most Compatible, which makes future captures use JPEG for photos and H.264 for video. That can simplify compatibility with Windows software, but it is a capture preference, not a quality upgrade and it does not convert existing files. Do not switch formats merely to preserve photos you have already taken; change it only if the compatibility trade-off suits future captures.

Use AirDrop for nearby Apple devices

AirDrop is the simplest nearby option when both the sender and recipient are Apple devices. Select the photos, choose Share, select AirDrop and choose the recipient. The recipient must accept the transfer, and both devices need to be close enough for the wireless connection. Check the receiving device’s AirDrop visibility if it does not appear. AirDrop is primarily a device-to-device workflow; it is not a general-purpose Android-to-Windows or iPhone-to-Windows computer import method.

For a Mac archive, USB remains easier to audit for a very large library. For a handful of files between nearby Apple devices, AirDrop avoids cables and an intermediate cloud service.

Send photos from Android to an iPhone, iPad or Mac

Google documents Quick Share interoperability with AirDrop on certain Android devices. Its Android Help page says, To send files to an iPhone, iPad or macOS device, you can use Quick Share on: The supported-device list is specific rather than universal: Google includes Pixel 8a and later plus certain device families from Samsung, Oppo, OnePlus, Vivo, Xiaomi, Honor, Transsion and Motorola. Check the current model list in Use Quick Share on your Android device before promising that a particular phone will work.

Direct Quick Share-to-AirDrop steps

  1. On the Apple receiving device, open AirDrop settings and set visibility to Everyone for 10 Minutes.
  2. On the Android phone, select the photos, tap Share, choose Quick Share and select the nearby Apple device when it appears.
  3. Accept the transfer on the Apple device and wait for the files to finish saving.
  4. Compare dimensions and formats on both devices if full-fidelity delivery is important.

Bluetooth and Wi-Fi proximity are involved in discovering and transferring nearby devices, so keep both devices close and enabled. AirDrop visibility and recipient acceptance are required on the Apple side.

Samsung rollout and version qualifications

Samsung’s support page, accessed October 13, 2026, said that Share with Apple devices was supported only on the Galaxy S26 series at that time, with expansion planned to selected flagships. It listed Quick Share version 13.8.51.27 or later and Google Play services 26.11.xx or later for that route, while warning that timing and availability can vary by market. Check the phone’s software, Quick Share version and regional support page because this feature is changing quickly. Samsung describes the feature by saying, You can also share files across Android and Apple devices while maintaining the original file quality. That is the vendor’s description; verify the received file when quality is critical. See How to use Quick Share to share a file between phones.

Use Quick Share’s QR route when direct interoperability is unavailable

If the Android model cannot send directly through AirDrop interoperability, Quick Share can provide a QR-code workflow. The sender selects the files in Quick Share and displays the QR code; the recipient scans it with the iPhone, iPad or Mac and downloads the files.

Because the QR files expire, download them promptly and move them into the recipient’s normal photo or backup storage. The QR route is a transfer mechanism, not a durable archive or an ongoing sync.

Transfer Android photos to Windows with Phone Link

Microsoft supports file sharing between a Windows PC and Android phone through Phone Link and Link to Windows. For the current Windows 11 sharing route, Microsoft lists Android 10 or later, Link to Windows version 1.24032.518.0 or later and Phone Link version 1.24032.156.0 or later. See Seamlessly transfer content between your devices for the current compatibility details.

  1. Pair the Android phone with the PC in Phone Link and Link to Windows, following the on-screen permissions.
  2. Open the phone’s Gallery app or Samsung My Files, depending on where the photos are stored.
  3. Use the documented drag-and-drop sharing route to move locally saved files to the PC. Keep both devices on the same Wi-Fi network for this workflow.
  4. Confirm that the files appear in the chosen Windows folder and compare their properties with the phone originals.

Limits that determine whether Phone Link is suitable

  • Drag-and-drop supports up to 100 files at a time.
  • Each file can be no larger than 512 MB.
  • Folders and files backed up to the cloud are excluded from the documented drag-and-drop route.
  • Phone Link’s simple sharing can send locally saved files; a cloud file may be sent as a link instead of copied as a local original.

For a cloud-only library, a file over 512 MB or a batch larger than 100 items, use USB or another supported file-transfer workflow rather than repeatedly forcing Phone Link to handle a job outside these limits.

Use iCloud Photos for an ongoing Apple library

iCloud Photos uploads and stores originals at full resolution. Apple can keep optimized versions on a device to save local space while the originals remain in iCloud. This makes iCloud useful when the goal is to see the same library on an iPhone, iPad, Mac and supported web or PC access without manually copying every new image.

Before enabling or relying on it, check available iCloud capacity and the device’s storage setting. An optimized device copy is not sufficient for a USB import to Windows; download the original first. Also decide whether synchronization matches your backup plan: deleting a photo from a synchronized library can propagate to other synchronized devices. A separate computer folder, external drive or other independent backup is needed when you require a second copy that is not governed by library synchronization.

Apple’s guide to moving files between an iPhone and other devices is available at Transfer files between your iPhone and other devices.

Build a reliable transfer workflow

For a one-time, large move

  1. Prefer a data-capable USB cable and the official import app for the phone and computer combination.
  2. Ensure the computer has enough free space for the originals plus temporary import overhead.
  3. Keep the phone unlocked and connected to power if the batch is large.
  4. Import in dated or album-based batches so a failed operation is easy to resume.
  5. Verify representative files, then create a second local copy if the photos are important.

For a few nearby photos

Use AirDrop for Apple-to-Apple transfers. Use direct Quick Share-to-AirDrop only after confirming that the Android model supports it. If it does not, use the QR route and download within its 24-hour availability window.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For continuous access across devices

Use iCloud Photos for an Apple library, or the supported Phone Link workflow for small local Android-to-Windows exchanges. Treat synchronization as access and convenience; keep a separate archive when loss of the library would be unacceptable.

Troubleshoot failed or reduced-quality transfers

The computer does not detect the phone

  • Try a different USB cable known to carry data; many inexpensive cables provide charging only.
  • Unlock the phone and respond to Trust, Allow or accessory prompts.
  • Reconnect after installing the required Apple Devices, Photos or Link to Windows software.
  • For wireless methods, confirm Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, internet access where required and the recipient’s visibility setting.

The imported files are smaller or have different dimensions

  • On iPhone-to-Windows imports, check whether iCloud Photos left optimized copies on the phone; download the originals and retry.
  • Confirm that the sender selected the original files rather than previews or shared links.
  • Compare file properties before deleting the source. Do not assume a messaging or social app preserved resolution or metadata unless its documented behavior and your verification confirm it.

The transfer stops partway through

  • Reduce the batch size and repeat the failed range.
  • Check free storage on both devices.
  • For Quick Share QR transfers, stay within the 10 GB daily and 1,000-file session limits and keep the recipient online long enough to download.
  • For Phone Link, split batches to 100 files or fewer and keep each file under 512 MB.

A wireless feature is missing

Quick Share-to-AirDrop support is model-, software- and region-dependent. Verify the current Android Help and manufacturer support page rather than assuming that every Android phone has the same capability. Rollouts and app requirements can change.

Sources and current limits

The procedures and limits above are based on the following vendor documentation: Apple’s Transfer photos and videos from your iPhone or iPad to your Mac or PC (published September 21, 2026); Google Android Help’s Use Quick Share on your Android device (accessed October 13, 2026); Samsung Support Singapore’s How to use Quick Share to share a file between phones (accessed October 13, 2026); Microsoft’s Seamlessly transfer content between your devices (accessed October 13, 2026); and Apple’s Transfer files between your iPhone and other devices (accessed October 13, 2026).
