Start with Google Lens if you have a camera view, saved photo, or screenshot. It can identify products, show similar items, and—where shopping results are available—surface retailers, prices, deals, reviews, and purchase locations. Use Circle to Search when the product is already visible on your screen and your Android phone supports it. Use Amazon Lens when you specifically want candidates from Amazon’s catalog. In every case, treat the image match as a lead: verify the exact model, variant, total delivered cost, seller, availability, and return terms before buying.
Which Android image-search method should you use?
The best method depends on where the product image is and whether you want a broad shopping search or one retailer’s catalog.

If you want to discover the same or comparable item across multiple retailers, begin with Google Lens. If you are already looking at the item in an app and do not want to save or switch images, Circle to Search is faster. If your purchase decision is restricted to Amazon, Amazon Lens removes an extra retailer-selection step.
How to find a product with Google Lens on Android
Use a saved photo or screenshot
- Open Google Photos and select the product photo or screenshot.
- Tap More, then choose Google Lens. The exact placement can vary with the Google Photos version and device.
- Adjust the selection so Lens focuses on the product, not unrelated objects in the frame.
- Review the visual matches. For apparel and home goods, Lens can look for similar products and places to purchase them. For packaged goods, a barcode may lead to a product lookup.
- If the matches are too broad, add a descriptive word such as a brand, color, pattern, material, product type, or size.
A screenshot works the same way as any other saved image. Crop it first when a post contains several products, text overlays, or a busy background. A tighter selection gives the visual system less irrelevant content to interpret.

Search a new product with the camera
- Open Lens from a supported Google app or device surface.
- Point the camera at the item and take a photo when the product is in focus and well lit.
- Check the identified object and the first set of results.
- Add text to distinguish the version you want—for example, a color, pattern, material, or size.
- Open a retailer result and verify the listing details rather than relying on the thumbnail.
Google describes Lens as able to show maker information, product details, and shopping options. A photo of a chair, for example, can be refined with words such as “velvet,” “brown,” or “chair.” The more distinctive the added term, the less likely the results are to remain generic lookalikes.
Search a barcode
When a package has a readable barcode, use Lens on that area. A barcode can provide a stronger identity signal than appearance alone, but still check the listing for the correct size, count, bundle, and regional version. A multipack and a single unit may share a similar image while having very different prices.
How to refine Google Lens results
Add the detail that separates variants
Visual search is strongest at finding appearance and category. It is weaker at distinguishing nearly identical generations, capacities, dimensions, or bundles. Add the identifying attribute that matters most:

- Color or pattern: specify the shade, finish, print, or weave rather than accepting a visually close alternative.
- Material: terms such as leather, velvet, cotton, stainless steel, or wood can narrow a broad category.
- Product type: distinguish a side chair from an armchair, a running shoe from a casual sneaker, or a phone case from a phone.
- Size or capacity: add dimensions, clothing size, storage capacity, or pack count when known.
If a photograph includes multiple objects, crop or select only the target. The same principle applies to screenshots: select the product instead of the surrounding comments, interface, or unrelated items.
Use shopping details as comparison leads
Where Google’s shopping features are supported, product details can include retailer prices, current deals, reviews, and purchase locations. In-store searches may show similar-item availability and whether a store’s price is competitive. These are discovery aids, not a guarantee that every seller is offering the identical item or that the displayed price is the final checkout total.

How to search an item already on your screen with Circle to Search
Check eligibility and turn it on
Circle to Search is available only on select compatible Android devices and compatible apps or surfaces. It also requires an internet connection. Depending on your navigation mode, Google’s Android guide places the setting under Hold home to search or Hold handle to search. If the gesture does nothing, open Android Settings and look for that setting, then confirm that the feature is enabled.
Select the product without leaving the app
- Open the social post, video, browser page, message, or other screen containing the product.
- Long-press the Home button, or long-press the navigation handle when using gesture navigation.
- Circle, scribble, highlight, or tap the product. Select only the object you want to investigate.
- Read the visual results while remaining in the original app.
- If available for your region, language, and query, ask a text follow-up to add a brand, color, material, size, or other constraint.
This is the quickest route when the image is transient—for example, an item in a video or a post you do not want to download. Google’s guide cautions that “Results may vary depending on visual matches,” so a result that looks right still needs product-level verification.
When Circle to Search is the better choice
- You are comparing an item shown in a video and want to keep the video context.
- The product is inside an app that does not offer a convenient save or share action.
- You want to select one object from a multi-item image by circling it.
Use Google Lens instead when you need a reusable image, a camera view, or a broader cross-retailer shopping path. Circle to Search is a selection interface, not a separate retailer catalog.
How to use Amazon Lens for Amazon-only results
Search from a photo or the camera
- Open the Amazon Shopping app.
- Tap the Lens icon in the search bar.
- Choose an image from your phone’s library or take a new camera photo.
- Review the candidate products in Amazon’s catalog.
- Add text such as a brand, color, material, or product type to narrow the search.
Amazon Lens is useful when you already intend to buy through Amazon and want the search to stay inside that store. It does not provide a cross-retailer comparison; for that, use Google Lens and then open the actual retailer listings.
Isolate an item in a crowded image
Amazon documents a Circle to Search option for circling the target in a multi-product image. Select the single item you want rather than the entire scene, then add a text qualifier if the first results contain similar but incorrect products.

Scan a barcode for a closer identity match
Use Amazon’s barcode-scan option when the product is packaged and the barcode is visible. Amazon says this can bring up the product for price, delivery, or restock comparison. Confirm that the listing’s size, quantity, and included accessories match the item in your hand; barcode results can still lead to a listing with multiple selectable variations.

Amazon says Lens results can be sorted by price, customer ratings, and delivery options. Sorting helps organize candidates, but it does not establish that the cheapest result is the same model or the best total value. Open each promising listing and compare the complete offer.
How to compare offers found from an image
A visual match is not proof of product identity. Use this checklist before you add an item to your cart.
1. Confirm identity
- Look for the exact brand and model name.
- Match the model number, part number, UPC, or other identifier when one is available.
- Compare material, dimensions, capacity, technical generation, and configuration.
- Check whether the photo shows an accessory or component that is not included in the listing.
2. Match the variant
- Verify color, finish, pattern, and size.
- Check generation or revision for electronics and appliances.
- Confirm the bundle, pack count, storage capacity, or included attachments.
- Check the regional version, plug type, language, or compatibility where relevant.
3. Calculate the total cost
Compare the amount you will actually pay: item price plus shipping, delivery charges, taxes, and any fees shown at checkout. A search card may show a promotional price, a price for a different variant, or a pre-tax amount. Compare totals under the same delivery address and quantity.
4. Check seller and availability
- Record the seller’s identity, not just the marketplace name.
- Check whether the item is in stock and the stated delivery date.
- Read the return window, restocking conditions, and who handles returns.
- Be cautious when one listing has a dramatically different price but no matching model identifier.
5. Read reviews for the exact variant
Google and Amazon can expose review information or customer-rating sorting. Ratings can be misleading when a listing combines several sizes, colors, or generations. Read reviews that clearly refer to the exact variant you would receive, and look for comments about dimensions, durability, compatibility, and whether the delivered item matched the photos.

What to do when the visual match is wrong
Results are too generic
- Crop the image to one product.
- Retake the photo in better light, with the label or distinctive feature visible.
- Add a brand, material, color, product type, or size.
- Try a barcode or model-number search if the item has one.
Results show lookalikes instead of the exact item
Search for text visible on the product, packaging, care label, or product page. A model number is usually more useful than a descriptive phrase. If no identifier exists, compare construction details and dimensions across multiple listings and describe the result as a similar product rather than an exact match.
The item is one of several objects
Use a crop in Google Photos, select the object in Lens, circle it with Circle to Search, or use Amazon’s documented circling option. Selecting the full scene makes the system solve several identification problems at once.
The feature is unavailable
Circle to Search requires a supported device, compatible surface, and internet connection. If it is missing, use Google Lens with a screenshot or saved image. Shopping results in Google Lens are also country-dependent, so a feature documented for another market may not appear in your account.

Google’s Lens help documentation lists shopping results in Austria, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The list and feature behavior can change, and a listed country does not mean every query or retailer will return shopping data.
Circle to Search has a separate compatibility requirement: it works only on select Android devices and supported apps or surfaces. Check the current Android guidance for your phone and software version before relying on the gesture. Amazon Lens availability and catalog results likewise depend on the Amazon Shopping app and the marketplace serving your region.

Privacy controls for Google Lens images
Google’s Android help page says Visual Search History is off by default. You can turn off Include Visual Search History to prevent images used with Lens from being saved in that history. The same help guidance points to Lens activity controls, where you can review or delete activity.
Before scanning a personal photograph, crop out faces, documents, addresses, or other people’s information when those details are irrelevant to the product search. Use the smallest selection that answers your shopping question, and review your activity controls if you do not want visual searches retained in history.
A practical workflow for the most reliable result
- Identify the image source: camera, saved photo, screenshot, or an item already on screen.
- Choose the matching tool: Google Lens for broad discovery, Circle to Search for an on-screen item, or Amazon Lens for Amazon-only candidates.
- Isolate the product: crop, tap, highlight, or circle one object.
- Add one high-value text detail: brand, model, color, material, size, or product type.
- Use identifiers: scan a barcode or search visible model text when possible.
- Open the retailer listing: confirm exact identity and variant.
- Compare the complete offer: total cost, seller, stock, delivery, reviews, and returns.
- Buy only after verification: save the model number and listing details if you may need to compare again.
