Private Internet Access (PIA) and NordVPN are the clearest choices when you specifically need an Alaska or Anchorage IP. PIA advertises an Anchorage IP through an Alaska location and openly says that location is virtual rather than physically hosted in Alaska. NordVPN’s U.S. location page lists both Alaska and Anchorage. ExpressVPN and Proton VPN are capable U.S. VPN services, but the pages examined for this guide did not independently confirm a selectable Alaska endpoint. Proton VPN’s free plan is a useful fifth budget pick, although it should not be treated as a separate provider or as a guaranteed streaming solution.
A VPN can change the public IP address that websites see; it cannot guarantee that a bank, streaming platform, game, or other service will accept the connection. Follow the verification steps below after connecting, because server catalogs and third-party blocking rules change.
What counts as an Alaska VPN?
An Alaska VPN is a consumer VPN service with a selectable endpoint that reports an Alaska location, usually Anchorage. When you connect, the service routes your traffic through that endpoint and websites generally see the endpoint’s public IP instead of the address assigned by your internet provider.

PIA states this explicitly: “While PIA has a server location for Alaska that assigns you an IP address from Anchorage, we don’t actually have physical servers in the state.” That is a virtual location. It can still provide an Anchorage-associated IP, but it is different from a physically located Alaska server.

The distinction matters when a service uses geolocation databases, fraud scoring, latency measurements, or network reputation to evaluate a connection. A location listed in an app is evidence of an advertised endpoint, not proof that every website will classify you as an Alaska resident.
Five practical picks, with the evidence and limits
The available provider evidence supports four services and two Proton VPN plan choices. Listing Proton’s free and paid tiers separately gives readers five practical ways to approach the task without pretending that five independently verified Alaska providers were found.
| Pick | What is confirmed | Best fit | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private Internet Access | Its Alaska page advertises an Alaska location that assigns an Anchorage IP and says it offers locations in all 50 states. | Readers who want the clearest Alaska-specific documentation. | The Alaska location is virtual; PIA says its physical servers are not in the state. Provider claims about speed and compatibility are not independent Alaska tests. |
| NordVPN | Its U.S. server page lists Alaska and Anchorage among the available states and cities. | Readers who want a major provider with an explicitly listed Anchorage location. | The listing confirms an advertised location, not a comparative Alaska speed result or uninterrupted access to third-party services. |
| ExpressVPN | Its U.S. page advertises coverage across all 50 states and explains how to connect to a U.S. IP. | Readers who value broad U.S. coverage and a straightforward app workflow. | The cited page did not independently confirm that Alaska or Anchorage is selectable. Check the current location list before subscribing. |
| Proton VPN paid plan | Its U.S. page describes U.S. servers and says geo-blocked streaming is guaranteed only on paid plans. | Readers who need paid-plan streaming support and Proton’s U.S. service. | The cited page did not confirm an Alaska-specific endpoint. A paid plan is not evidence of an Anchorage location by itself. |
| Proton VPN free plan | The same U.S. page describes a free plan. | Readers who want to test a no-cost U.S. VPN before paying. | Alaska availability was not confirmed, and Proton does not extend its streaming guarantee to the free plan. |
Endpoint catalogs are changeable. Treat the table as a decision framework based on provider pages accessed October 13, 2026, then confirm the exact location in the app or purchase flow.

1. Private Internet Access: strongest Alaska-specific documentation
PIA is the most straightforward choice when the requirement is explicitly “an Alaska IP.” Its Alaska page says the location assigns an Anchorage IP and advertises locations in all 50 states. The same page’s FAQ removes a common ambiguity by disclosing that the Alaska location is virtual and that PIA does not have physical servers in the state.
Why choose it
- The provider names Alaska and Anchorage directly rather than relying only on broad “United States” coverage.
- The virtual-location disclosure lets you make an informed choice about physical server geography.
- PIA’s own instructions recommend checking the resulting IP location after connecting.
What to check before paying
Open the provider’s current location list, search for “Alaska” and “Anchorage,” and confirm that the entry is available for your device and plan. The presence of an Alaska page does not guarantee that every app version, protocol, or subscription tier exposes the same endpoint.

2. NordVPN: an explicitly listed Anchorage option
NordVPN’s current U.S. server page lists Alaska among its states and Anchorage among its cities. That is useful confirmation for readers who prefer a provider whose public location catalog names the target state and city.
Why choose it
- Alaska and Anchorage appear in the provider’s U.S. location listing.
- The service is presented as a general-purpose U.S. VPN, so it can also be considered when you need other U.S. locations.
What the listing does not prove
A location page does not establish that NordVPN will be faster than another service on your connection. It also does not guarantee access to a particular streaming catalog, financial site, or online game. Connect to Anchorage and perform your own IP and service checks.
3. ExpressVPN: broad U.S. coverage, Alaska still needs verification
ExpressVPN’s U.S. page advertises server locations across all 50 states and explains the basic process for obtaining a U.S. IP. That broad claim makes it a reasonable candidate for consideration, but the cited material did not independently confirm a selectable Alaska endpoint.
How to evaluate it
- Install the current app for your operating system.
- Open the complete location list instead of relying on an automatic “United States” shortcut.
- Search for “Alaska” and “Anchorage.”
- If neither appears, do not assume that an all-50-states marketing statement means the app can provide an Alaska IP on your plan.
This distinction prevents a common mistake: treating nationwide coverage language as proof of every individual state location.
4. Proton VPN paid plan: useful U.S. service, unconfirmed Alaska endpoint
Proton VPN’s cited U.S. page describes U.S. server access and says that geo-blocked streaming is guaranteed only on paid plans. That makes the paid tier more relevant than the free tier for readers whose main goal is streaming, but the page did not confirm Alaska or Anchorage specifically.

When it makes sense
- You want a paid U.S. VPN and are willing to verify the exact state location in the app.
- You need the provider’s stated paid-plan streaming guarantee rather than relying on a free service.
When to choose another option
If an Alaska IP is non-negotiable, prefer a service whose current location selector visibly contains Alaska or Anchorage. Do not subscribe solely because a page says “U.S. servers.”
5. Proton VPN free plan: a no-cost test, not a guaranteed Alaska solution
The Proton VPN U.S. page describes a free plan, making it a practical way to test whether a VPN workflow suits your device without an immediate subscription. It is the fifth practical pick in this guide because it may meet a basic U.S.-location need at no cost, not because the cited page confirms an Alaska endpoint.
Keep expectations realistic
- Check whether the free app exposes Alaska or Anchorage; the cited page does not establish that it does.
- Do not treat the free tier as covered by Proton’s paid-plan streaming guarantee.
- If the location is unavailable or a target service blocks the connection, a paid plan from a provider with an explicitly listed Alaska endpoint is the more direct route.
How to get and verify an Alaska IP address
Use this sequence regardless of which provider you select. The exact button names can change, but the required decisions remain the same.
- Install the official app. Download the provider’s current application for your phone, computer, or supported device and sign in. A browser extension alone may cover only browser traffic, so use the full app when you need the device-wide connection.
- Open the location picker. Choose the server or location list rather than the fastest-server shortcut. Search for
Alaskaand thenAnchorage. - Connect to the listed endpoint. Wait until the app reports a completed connection. Note the protocol or mode shown by the app if you later need to troubleshoot speed or reliability.
- Check your public IP. Use a reputable IP-lookup service in a browser and record the reported city, state, country, and IP address. PIA specifically recommends this verification step for its Alaska location.
- Check the actual service you need. Sign in to the target website or app only after the lookup shows the intended result. A correct-looking IP does not force a third party to accept the connection.
- Record a working endpoint. If several Alaska or Anchorage entries appear, note which one works for your service and connection. Endpoint performance can vary by time of day and route.
Why an Alaska IP may not work for a website or app
Geolocation is assembled from commercial IP databases, routing data, account history, device signals, and service-specific rules. Two lookup sites can display different cities for the same address, and a streaming or banking service can classify the connection differently from a public lookup page.
The app has no Alaska or Anchorage entry
Do not substitute a generic U.S. server and call it an Alaska IP. Recheck the provider’s current catalog, confirm that you are viewing all locations rather than a favorites filter, and verify that your plan and app version support the endpoint. If Alaska is still absent, choose a provider with a directly listed Alaska location.

The lookup reports another state
Disconnect and reconnect to the specific Alaska or Anchorage entry, then clear the lookup page’s cache or use a private browser window. If the result remains elsewhere, the provider may be using a virtual location or the geolocation database may be stale. Save the reported IP and contact the provider if the app advertises Alaska but repeatedly returns a different state.
The target service blocks the connection
VPN endpoints are often identified by shared or previously flagged IP ranges. Try another Alaska endpoint if the app offers one, but do not assume that changing servers will always solve the problem. Some services restrict VPN use, enforce account-country rules, or require additional identity checks. A VPN cannot override those policies.
Pages load slowly
There is no Alaska-specific speed ranking in the available evidence. Throughput depends on your ISP, physical location, route to the endpoint, device, protocol, Wi-Fi conditions, and congestion. Test the same website with the VPN disconnected and then connected to Anchorage at similar times. If the slowdown is severe, try another listed endpoint or protocol, move to a wired or stronger Wi-Fi connection, and compare results on your own line rather than relying on a generic U.S. VPN benchmark.

Choose PIA when endpoint certainty comes first
PIA has the clearest Alaska-specific explanation and openly labels the location virtual. It is the most defensible first choice when you need an Anchorage-associated IP and want the provider’s own documentation to address physical server geography.

Choose ExpressVPN only after confirming the app entry
Its all-50-states claim is broader than the Alaska-specific evidence available here. It becomes a reasonable candidate if the current location picker visibly offers Alaska or Anchorage for your plan.
Choose Proton’s paid plan for paid-plan streaming terms
Use this route when Proton’s stated paid-plan streaming coverage matters and you have independently confirmed the location you need. The paid streaming statement does not establish Alaska availability.
Choose Proton’s free plan to test the workflow
The free plan can answer basic questions about installation, device compatibility, and whether a U.S. connection works for your use case. It is not a substitute for a confirmed Alaska endpoint or a paid-plan streaming commitment.
“Fast” means measured on your connection
The phrase “get an IP address super fast” should be read as quick setup and connection, not a promised transfer speed. None of the Alaska-specific sources provides a controlled, comparative speed test for these endpoints. TechRadar’s 2026 U.S. VPN comparison offers broader provider context and describes its own testing, but those results are not Alaska-specific and should not be presented as Anchorage performance.
For a meaningful personal test, measure latency and download speed three times without a VPN, then repeat three times while connected to the same Alaska endpoint. Keep the device, network, test server, and time window consistent. Report the range, not a single best result, and remember that a test from outside Alaska may travel a very different route from a reader’s connection.
Privacy and location caveats
- A changed IP address is not the same as complete anonymity. Websites can also use cookies, logged-in account details, browser characteristics, GPS permissions, and device identifiers.
- A virtual Alaska location can provide an Anchorage-associated IP while the underlying infrastructure sits elsewhere. Read the provider’s location disclosure if physical geography matters.
- Do not use a consumer VPN as a way to access systems you are not authorized to use. Follow the target service’s terms and local law.
- Endpoint availability, server labels, and provider claims are time-sensitive. Recheck the app and provider page on the day you subscribe.
Consumer VPN versus the State of Alaska employee VPN
The State of Alaska Office of Information Technology describes its VPN as a method for authorized users to reach state network resources remotely, with access approved by a department. That system is for government employees or other authorized users; it is not a public service for obtaining an Alaska IP address.
If your goal is state-system access, follow your department’s instructions and authorization process. If your goal is to make ordinary websites see an Alaska-associated IP, use a consumer VPN with a selectable Alaska or Anchorage endpoint and verify the result.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteBottom line
Start with PIA or NordVPN when an Alaska or Anchorage endpoint is essential: both publicly identify that location, while PIA also explains that its Alaska endpoint is virtual. Consider ExpressVPN or Proton VPN only after the current app confirms the exact location you need. Proton’s free plan is useful for testing, but it does not establish Alaska availability or provide the paid plan’s streaming guarantee. Whatever you choose, connect to the named endpoint, check the reported IP, and test the destination service before relying on it.
