NordVPN ranked first in TheBestVPN.com’s Spain-focused comparison published August 19, 2026, with the strongest overall showing for streaming and speed among its four remaining finalists. That is a dated publisher ranking, not a universal winner: Security.org’s September 1, 2026 comparison placed a different provider first. Your best choice depends on whether you need Spanish services abroad, foreign catalogs while in Spain, or a privacy-focused connection.
Which VPN is best for Spain?
For an all-round streaming and speed choice, TheBestVPN.com ranked NordVPN first in its August 19, 2026 comparison. It reported access to the Spanish services RTVE Play, Atresplayer, and Mitele, plus all of the foreign streaming services in its test set. Security.org’s separate September 1, 2026 guide ranked providers differently, so treat these results as snapshots shaped by each publisher’s methods and test window.
The right choice also depends on where you are connecting from. If you are abroad and want Spanish TV, check that the VPN has a Spanish endpoint and that it works with the exact service you want. If you are in Spain and want a foreign catalog, verify the relevant country and platform instead. Streaming services can change VPN detection; RTINGS notes that “streaming services can and will update their VPN algorithms frequently.”

How the four VPNs performed in TheBestVPN.com’s comparison
TheBestVPN.com says it reviewed 30 VPN services and carried out deeper Spain-focused tests on five finalists. It reports testing speed, Spanish streaming platforms, IP and DNS leaks, and no-logs policies. The results below are that publisher’s reported findings, not independent tests or guarantees of what you will experience.
#1 Best Overall
| Provider and ranking | Spain-focused findings reported by TheBestVPN.com | Reported speed loss | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|---|
| NordVPN — 1st | More than 60 servers in Madrid and Barcelona; accessed RTVE Play, Atresplayer, and Mitele, as well as every foreign service in its test set. | 10.7% nearest-server speed loss in the publisher’s test. | The article reported a 2025 Deloitte audit of its no-logs policy and RAM-only servers. Its listed two-year-plan price was €3.49 per month; that is a dated listing, not a current checkout quote. |
| ExpressVPN — 3rd | Accessed RTVE Play, Atresplayer, and Mitele; reached 87.5% of the international streaming services listed, with Netflix UK the named exception. | 17.3% nearest-server speed loss in the publisher’s test. | The article highlighted Lightway for unstable hotel Wi-Fi and MediaStreamer Smart DNS for certain TVs and consoles. It reported a 2025 KPMG audit of the no-logs policy and listed a starting price of €2.49 per month; check device compatibility and current plan terms. |
| Proton VPN — 4th | Accessed RTVE Play and Mitele but not Atresplayer; the article also reported access to the international Netflix libraries it tested and Disney+. | 17.6% nearest-server speed loss in the publisher’s test. | The article described the provider as headquartered in Switzerland, with open-source apps and Secure Core multi-hop, and reported a 2025 Securitum audit of its no-logs policy. An audit or jurisdiction alone does not establish complete anonymity. |
| IPVanish — 5th | Servers in Madrid and Valencia; accessed RTVE Play but not Mitele or Atresplayer. | 11.6% nearest-server speed loss in the publisher’s test. | The article said the provider is headquartered in the United States and reported a 2025 Schellman Compliance audit of its no-logs policy. Review the policy and audit scope before drawing broader privacy conclusions. |
All four remaining speed-loss percentages are TheBestVPN.com’s nearest-server results from its 2026 test cycle. The reported figures do not predict performance on every device, network, protocol, location, or time of day.
Why VPN rankings for Spain differ
TheBestVPN.com’s order reflects its reported Spain-focused speed and streaming tests alongside privacy-policy review. Security.org’s September 1, 2026 guide ranked a different provider first and said its team reviewed more than 50 VPNs, spent a week with each, ran speed tests, assessed privacy and security, and mapped Spanish server infrastructure. Security.org also reported 300 speed tests, more than 2,500 research hours, and six experts consulted; those are its own methodology figures, not independently audited measures.
Rank #2
Neither ranking settles every use case. A service that works for one Spanish streaming platform may fail on another, and results can change. Use rankings to shortlist candidates, then confirm the city, device support, platform access, privacy terms, and full subscription cost that matter to you.
How to choose a VPN for your use case
If you want Spanish TV while abroad
- Confirm that the provider currently offers a Spanish server location and whether the city matters for your use.
- Check the exact service—such as RTVE Play, Atresplayer, or Mitele—on the device you plan to use. The 2026 test results varied by platform.
- Look for a refund or cancellation policy that gives you a practical way to stop if the service does not work for your setup; read its terms rather than assuming a trial is available.
If you want foreign catalogs while in Spain
- Identify the country library and streaming service you need before choosing. TheBestVPN.com reported results for specific services and regions, not every catalog.
- Check access close to the time you subscribe. Streaming platforms may update VPN detection after a comparison is published.
- Consider latency and connection stability as well as headline download-speed results, especially for live video or hotel Wi-Fi.
If privacy is your priority
- Read the provider’s current privacy policy to understand what connection or account data it collects and retains.
- Check what an independent audit actually covered, who performed it, and when. An audit mention does not prove anonymity or establish that every system was examined.
- Consider jurisdiction as one factor, not a substitute for examining policy, technical practices, and audit scope.
If you need to connect a TV or console
First check whether the device supports the provider’s native VPN app. If it does not, a compatible VPN-capable router can route its traffic through a VPN, but router firmware and provider support vary by model. A laptop hotspot may be another setup option. Smart DNS, where offered, is a separate approach and does not provide the same kind of encrypted VPN tunnel; confirm current availability and compatibility before relying on it.

What to verify before subscribing
- Location: Confirm the provider has an endpoint in the country—and, if relevant, city—you need.
- Real-world performance: Test from your own network and device. Published speed-loss results are comparisons from a particular test cycle, not expected speeds for every subscriber.
- Streaming: Test the exact service and region. Access is service-specific and may change as platforms update their detection.
- Privacy: Read policy language and audit documentation, including the date and scope of any audit.
- Devices and connections: Check supported operating systems, simultaneous connections, and whether your TV or console needs a router or another setup.
- Total price: Compare the full payment, renewal price, subscription length, cancellation terms, and refund conditions. A low monthly figure shown for a long plan may not be the amount you pay monthly.
