The best VPN for Malaysia depends on where you are and what you need: a Malaysian IP address while abroad, a nearby connection while in Malaysia, or privacy features for everyday browsing. Provider-published server counts and device limits offer a starting point, but they do not establish speed, streaming access, or privacy performance.
Best VPN for Malaysia: Which option fits your task?
The figures below are provider-reported specifications from pages accessed in 2026. Server counts can change and are not an independent check of server number or physical location. No comparable Malaysia-specific speed tests or current streaming-service tests are established here.
| Provider | Malaysia locations and listed servers | Devices and plan detail | Relevant listed features |
|---|---|---|---|
| NordVPN | 12 Malaysia servers; city not specified in the cited page | 10 simultaneous connections | Malaysia server selection and specialty-server options; the provider states a 30-day money-back guarantee. |
| Proton VPN | More than 30 servers in Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur | Up to 10 devices at once; Malaysia servers require Plus | WireGuard and OpenVPN, kill switch, Secure Core, and Stealth. Its free plan connects through Quick Connect or random server selection and does not promise a selectable Malaysia endpoint. |
These are not like-for-like measures of quality. A larger reported inventory does not prove a faster, more private, or more reliable service. Confirm current server availability and the applicable device limit and features for the specific plan before subscribing.
How do I choose the best VPN for Malaysia?
Start with your location and goal
- Need a Malaysian IP while abroad: Choose a provider whose app offers a Malaysia location, then check whether that location is included in your plan.
- In Malaysia and prioritizing latency: Try nearby endpoints and compare how they perform on your own internet connection. The nearest server is not automatically the fastest; route, network conditions, and server load matter.
- Using public Wi-Fi: Compare protocol choices and whether the app includes a kill switch. These features can affect how the VPN connection is configured and what happens if it drops; they are not a guarantee of complete security.
- Prioritizing privacy features: Read the provider’s explanations of its protocols, logging practices, audits, and security assessments. Treat these as provider statements, and check the scope and date of any assurance.
Check the features that matter on your plan
NordVPN lists 10 simultaneous connections and Malaysia server selection. Proton VPN lists up to 10 devices at once, but says access to Malaysia servers requires Plus. The plan terms may matter more than the headline server count if you need several devices or a specific location.

Check your streaming service directly
Provider pages do not establish reliable access to any particular Malaysian or foreign streaming platform. VPN blocks and content rights can change, so check the service on the plan, device, and date that matter to you. Do not treat a provider’s general marketing claims as a guarantee that a specific catalogue will work.

How do I change my IP address to Malaysia?
- Choose a VPN plan that includes access to a Malaysia server. A free tier may not include a selectable Malaysian endpoint; Proton VPN, for example, says Malaysia servers require Plus.
- Install the provider’s app on your device and sign in.
- Open the server or location list, select Malaysia, and connect. Provider pages describe Malaysia selection in their apps; exact labels can vary by app version.
- After the connection is established, check your public IP with a reputable IP lookup service. It should show a Malaysian location, though geolocation databases can be inaccurate.
A VPN changes the public IP address seen by many websites to the address of the VPN exit server. It does not change your account’s country, guarantee access to a service, or make every part of your online activity anonymous.
What the provider pages establish—and what they do not
NordVPN lists 12 Malaysia servers and 10 simultaneous connections. Proton VPN lists more than 30 servers across Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur, with up to 10 devices and Malaysia servers on Plus. These inventory figures are provider-reported snapshots from pages accessed in 2026; their exact inventory snapshot dates are not specified.
