Start with Distortion Off, Bloom Off, and Cast Shadows Off. That combination removes the most distracting screen warping, glow, and extra shadow rendering while Hush’s utility is active. If your frame rate is unstable, open Settings > Video > Stats and use the graphs to identify the problem, then lower Material, Texture, Detail, or UI Quality. Improve Clarity and Experimental Sharpening are optional: test them on your own system rather than treating either as mandatory.
The best starting settings for Hush’s visual effects
Hush is reported to be VALORANT’s ninth Duelist, with a redirectable flash, a space-making dash, and an ultimate that lifts players in an area. Those details come from a Dot Esports report dated October 18, 2026, ahead of the planned October 27, 2026 release. Her final effects, timings, and even release schedule could change before launch, so the settings below target the visual problems described in that report rather than promising a way to counter a finalized ability.
For a competitive clarity baseline, open the graphics-quality section and use this order of priorities:

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minute- Distortion: Off. This is the most direct way to avoid adding another layer of screen warping while you are trying to follow a moving target.
- Bloom: Off. Removing glow helps preserve the apparent edges of enemy models, weapons, and nearby surfaces when bright ability effects fill the view.
- Cast Shadows: Off. This avoids rendering extra cosmetic shadows that can add visual noise and consume resources during a fight.
- Improve Clarity: test On and Off. It can look cleaner on one display and harsher or less comfortable on another, so use the version that keeps silhouettes easy to follow without introducing distracting halos.
- Experimental Sharpening: test On and Off. Sharpening is a preference and system-dependent choice, not a universal competitive requirement.
Riot’s 2021 troubleshooting guidance specifically suggests trying Improve Clarity, Experimental Sharpening, Bloom, Distortion, and Cast Shadows disabled when diagnosing performance or instability. A current competitive-settings reference also recommends Distortion Off, Bloom Off, and Cast Shadows Off while treating Experimental Sharpening as something to experiment with. These recommendations change presentation and, on some computers, frame pacing; they do not cancel, shorten, or otherwise remove Hush’s underlying gameplay effects.

Why distortion and bloom can hide a moving enemy
Screen distortion
Distortion changes the apparent position or shape of pixels around an effect. When a Duelist’s utility bends the scene, the eye has to separate the moving player from a background that is also changing. Turning the global Distortion option off prevents the game from adding that optional presentation layer. It does not make Hush’s ability fail, and it does not guarantee that every ability-authored visual will disappear.
Bloom and bright edges
Bloom spreads bright pixels into neighboring areas. In a normal round, a small amount may look attractive; during a flash, burst, or other high-contrast effect, the same glow can wash across a weapon outline or a head-level silhouette. Bloom Off is therefore the clearest default for players who prioritize target separation over cinematic lighting.
Cast shadows
Cast Shadows controls additional shadow rendering rather than the existence of Hush’s utility. Disabling it removes a cosmetic source of moving dark shapes and can reduce work for the graphics processor. It is a clarity-and-performance baseline, not a Hush-specific counter.
Recommended VALORANT settings
| Setting | Recommended starting value | Reason while tracking Hush | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Distortion | Off | Reduces optional screen-warp presentation that can make a moving target harder to follow. | Does not disable Hush’s ability, its hitbox, or its gameplay result. |
| Bloom | Off | Limits glow spreading over silhouettes, weapon edges, and nearby geometry. | Does not remove the underlying flash or other authored visual effect. |
| Cast Shadows | Off | Removes extra cosmetic shadow rendering and may reduce visual clutter. | Does not remove player shadows or reveal enemies through solid cover. |
| Improve Clarity | Test On and Off | Can make the image feel more defined on some systems; the preferred value depends on the display and your eyes. | Is not a guaranteed FPS or visibility upgrade. |
| Experimental Sharpening | Test On and Off | May make edges appear crisper, but can also look over-sharpened or uncomfortable. | Has no established universal value or published competitive benchmark. |
| Material Quality | Lower if frame rate is unstable | Riot lists it among the quality options to reduce when troubleshooting performance. | No specific FPS gain is established for a particular level. |
| Texture Quality | Lower if frame rate is unstable | Reduces quality workload when the system is struggling. | Does not guarantee that ability effects will be visually absent. |
| Detail Quality | Lower if frame rate is unstable | Can reduce scene detail that competes with a target during a chaotic fight. | No numeric latency or frame-rate reduction is published for a setting level. |
| UI Quality | Lower if frame rate is unstable | Riot includes it in the group to lower during performance troubleshooting. | Changes interface rendering, not Hush’s ability behavior. |
The table separates established recommendations from optional experiments. Riot has not published a numeric FPS increase, latency reduction, or benchmark for these switches, so any improvement must be measured on your own hardware with the in-game graphs.

How to apply the settings and verify the result
1. Open the graphics controls
- Launch VALORANT and reach the main menu.
- Open the Settings menu.
- Select the Video section, then open the graphics-quality controls.
- Set Distortion, Bloom, and Cast Shadows to Off.
- Leave Improve Clarity and Experimental Sharpening at their current values for the first test, or change only one of them if you already know which presentation you prefer.
- Apply the changes if the client presents an Apply button, then return to a practice environment or a non-ranked match.
2. Turn on performance graphs
Use Settings > Video > Stats to display the performance graphs Riot recommends for diagnosing instability. Watch the graphs during a visually busy encounter rather than only while standing in an empty area. You are looking for consistency while moving, aiming, and receiving ability effects; a high peak frame rate does not help if frame delivery repeatedly stutters when Hush’s utility appears.
3. Change one variable at a time
- Play or rehearse a repeatable route with the baseline options enabled.
- Note whether the enemy outline remains easy to follow and whether motion feels smooth during an effect.
- Change only Improve Clarity or Experimental Sharpening, not both together.
- Repeat the same situation and keep the version that is easier to read and more comfortable.
- If the graphs still show unstable performance, lower Material, Texture, Detail, or UI Quality one at a time and retest.
This method prevents a visual preference change from being mistaken for a performance fix. It also gives you a recoverable configuration: if a new option makes edges noisy, return it to the previous value without undoing every other adjustment.
Three practical presets
There is no single setting combination that is best for every monitor and graphics processor. Use the following presets as starting points, then validate them with the Stats graphs and your own target tracking.
Recommended Free Tools
| Preset | Core values | Enemy readability during effects | Frame-rate stability | Comfort and preference |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Clarity-first | Distortion Off; Bloom Off; Cast Shadows Off; test Improve Clarity and Experimental Sharpening separately | Strongest baseline for minimizing optional warping, glow, and shadow clutter. | Likely the least visually demanding among the listed effect switches, but no universal gain is published. | Best for players who prefer a restrained, low-effect image; sharpening may need to remain Off if it creates halos. |
| Balanced | Distortion Off; Bloom Off; Cast Shadows Off; keep the preferred value for Improve Clarity; Experimental Sharpening only if it looks natural | Preserves the main clarity choices while allowing a display-specific image treatment. | Use the Stats graphs to confirm that optional clarity processing is not associated with stutter on your system. | Suitable when you want cleaner edges without committing to every optional effect. |
| Performance recovery | Distortion Off; Bloom Off; Cast Shadows Off; lower Material, Texture, Detail, and UI Quality as needed | Removes the largest listed sources of effect clutter and reduces competing scene detail. | Most appropriate when graphs show instability; the amount of improvement is hardware-dependent and not quantified by Riot. | Image quality is less important than consistent motion and target tracking. |
These are configuration profiles, not guarantees. If a lower quality level makes an enemy harder for you to distinguish, restore the last comfortable value and address only the setting that correlates with the graph problem.

What to do when Hush’s utility still overwhelms the screen
The scene still bends or shimmers
Confirm that the global Distortion option is Off, then check whether the remaining effect is part of Hush’s ability itself. Riot explains that VALORANT ability visual effects are built to strict performance targets and that the differences between low, medium, and high quality levels are generally minor cosmetic effects. A graphics switch cannot be expected to remove a gameplay-significant visual authored by the ability.
Bright effects wash out the target
Confirm Bloom is Off and compare the same scene with Improve Clarity and Experimental Sharpening individually. If sharpening produces bright outlines, ringing, or a grainy texture, leave it Off even if the image initially appears more detailed. The useful test is whether you can keep the enemy’s movement and head-level position in view, not whether stationary text looks the sharpest.
The image is clear but movement hitches
Open Settings > Video > Stats and observe the graphs while reproducing the hitch. Lower Material, Texture, Detail, or UI Quality in small steps. Avoid changing several unrelated options at once, because you will not know which change affected frame pacing. Riot’s guidance identifies these quality settings as troubleshooting levers but does not promise a particular numerical result.
Enemies are difficult to see after lowering quality
Restore the last quality option that improved your ability to identify silhouettes, then keep Distortion, Bloom, and Cast Shadows Off. Lower quality is not automatically clearer: a stable image with enough detail for your visual system is preferable to an aggressively reduced image that removes useful contrast.

Experimental Sharpening feels different from match to match
Do not treat that variation as evidence of a hidden universal setting. Keep your resolution and display mode consistent while testing, compare the same map area or practice scenario, and choose the value that remains comfortable over a full session. The available evidence supports experimentation, not a single required sharpening value.

Redirectable flash
A flash can force you to rely on timing and positioning rather than a perfectly visible silhouette. Bloom Off may prevent additional glow from spreading beyond the authored effect, but it cannot make a flashed player fully visible or negate the flash’s gameplay purpose. Use the setting to reduce surrounding clutter, not as a substitute for reacting to the ability.
Space-making dash
Fast displacement is hardest to track when the background is also warped or bright. Distortion Off and Bloom Off keep the scene presentation simpler while you follow the dash path. They do not slow the dash, enlarge an enemy model, or reveal where the player will stop.

Area-lifting ultimate
The reported ultimate lifts players in an area, creating a vertical or positional change that can be visually confusing. Cast Shadows Off removes optional shadow rendering but does not remove the lift, its area, or the need to adjust your crosshair. Because the details were reported before release, verify the final behavior in the live client rather than assuming the preview description is complete.

Display and hardware considerations
Settings are only one part of readability. A high-refresh, low-latency display can make motion feel easier to follow when the computer is already delivering consistent frames, but it is optional hardware context rather than a requirement for using these settings. No particular monitor, refresh rate, response-time figure, or graphics card has been established as necessary for Hush.
Prioritize consistency over a headline frame-rate number. A stable frame stream, comfortable brightness, and a view that does not produce halos or eye strain are more useful for tracking than a setting that looks sharper in a static screenshot. Keep display changes separate from graphics changes when testing so you can identify the cause of an improvement or problem.
What these settings can and cannot change
- They can reduce optional distortion, glow, shadow rendering, scene detail, and interface workload.
- They can improve perceived readability or frame pacing on some systems.
- They cannot disable Hush’s flash, dash, ultimate, hitbox, area, or crowd-control result.
- They cannot guarantee a specific FPS increase or latency reduction; Riot has published no numeric benchmark for these switches.
- They cannot establish one universal Improve Clarity or Experimental Sharpening value for every player.
The practical answer is therefore straightforward: use Distortion Off, Bloom Off, and Cast Shadows Off as the baseline; use Riot’s Stats graphs to diagnose instability; lower Material, Texture, Detail, or UI Quality only when the graphs and your experience justify it; and treat the two clarity options as controlled, personal tests.

As of October 18, 2026, the available report described Hush as a forthcoming ninth Duelist with a planned October 27, 2026 release. The reported redirectable flash, dash, and area-lifting ultimate are pre-release details. Riot could adjust names, visuals, timings, or mechanics before or after launch, so revisit the in-client descriptions and patch notes when the agent becomes available. The graphics recommendations remain useful for reducing optional visual clutter, but they should not be read as a promise that every future version of an ability will look identical.
