For U.S. shoppers, the LG B5 OLED is the strongest fit if you want OLED contrast, the Hisense U7SG is the better match for a bright room and gaming, and the TCL QM6K is the large-screen value pick. Prices and stock change by size and seller: the 48-inch B5 is more consistently below $1,000 than the 55-inch, while Tom’s Guide has reported sale snapshots of $899 for the 65-inch U7SG and $999 for its 75-inch version. Treat those prices as reference points, not live offers.

Which TV under $1,000 should you choose?

Model Best fit What stands out Trade-offs
LG B5 OLED, 48 or 55 inches Movie watching, deep blacks, and viewers seated off-center OLED black levels without haloing, wide viewing angles, Dolby Vision, VRR, and four HDMI 2.1 ports supporting 4K/120Hz The 48-inch version is easier to find below $1,000; the 55-inch price is less consistent. Check glare in a bright room.
Hisense U7SG, 65 inches Bright rooms and gaming Strong brightness, a matte screen, local dimming, VRR, four HDMI 2.1 ports, and high refresh-rate support Some haloing around bright objects and a narrow viewing angle
TCL QM6K, including 75 inches Getting the largest screen that fits the budget Local dimming, Google TV, Dolby Vision and HDR10+, VRR, and two HDMI 2.1 ports supporting up to 4K/144Hz HDR highlights are less impactful than on the U7SG, and viewing angles are narrow. The 2025 QM6K has been replaced by QM6L, so stock and pricing may be limited.

These distinctions reflect RTINGS’ 2026 recommendations and Tom’s Guide coverage; they are not a single universal ranking. RTINGS verified its list for accuracy and availability on Oct. 6, 2026. RTINGS’ best TVs under $1,000; Tom’s Guide’s TV picks under $1,000.

Choose the LG B5 for OLED picture quality

OLED pixels can turn off individually, producing deep blacks without the bright halos that can appear around objects on dimmed LCD screens. The B5 is also a good option when people watch from seats to the side, thanks to its wide viewing angles. It supports Dolby Vision and offers four HDMI 2.1 ports with VRR and 4K/120Hz support, making it a capable choice for compatible game consoles and PCs. RTINGS identifies the 48-inch size as the more dependable sub-$1,000 option; verify the exact size and current price before buying.

Choose the Hisense U7SG for brightness and gaming

The U7SG combines a bright Mini-LED LCD picture with a matte screen and local dimming, making it a stronger candidate than the OLED pick for a bright room. It has four HDMI 2.1 ports and VRR. Tom’s Guide lists a 165Hz native refresh rate and support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+. Its weaknesses matter if your seating is spread across a wide sofa: off-axis viewing is narrow, and local dimming can produce some haloing. Tom’s Guide’s 2026 review recorded sale-price examples of $899 for the 65-inch model and $999 for the 75-inch model; those are dated snapshots, not guaranteed current prices. Choose the TCL QM6K for screen size per dollar

RTINGS identifies the QM6K as its budget pick and says the 75-inch model can fit under $1,000. It combines local dimming and Google TV with Dolby Vision, HDR10+, VRR, and two HDMI 2.1 ports supporting up to 4K/144Hz. The compromise is less impactful HDR highlights than the U7SG and narrow viewing angles. Tom’s Guide describes the QM6K as part of TCL’s 2025 range and says it has been replaced by the QM6L; its 65-inch size was easier to find than larger versions. Confirm that a listing is actually for the QM6K and check the seller, condition, and return terms. Read Tom’s Guide’s TCL QM6K coverage.

How to compare TVs before buying

Match screen size to your seating distance

Do not choose a 75-inch set only because it appears to be the biggest bargain. The screen should suit the distance from your main seat and the space available. A 48-inch OLED may be the better fit for a closer seat or smaller room, while a 65- or 75-inch set may make sense when the room and viewing distance support it.

Balance contrast, brightness, and room light

OLED is especially compelling for dark scenes and black levels, while a bright Mini-LED LCD such as the U7SG is oriented toward brighter rooms. Local dimming can improve LCD contrast, but it does not eliminate every halo around bright objects. Also consider whether lamps or windows reflect on the screen; the U7SG’s matte surface is a specific advantage to weigh against its narrower viewing angle.

Check gaming features against your devices

For gaming, look beyond a headline refresh-rate number. Confirm that the TV has the ports and features your console or PC can use, including HDMI 2.1 and VRR where relevant. The B5 and U7SG each have four HDMI 2.1 ports; the QM6K has two and supports up to 4K/144Hz on them. A TV’s maximum specification does not mean every connected device or game will output at that rate.

Consider HDR formats and visible highlights

Format support is only part of HDR performance. The B5 supports Dolby Vision; the U7SG supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+; and the QM6K supports both Dolby Vision and HDR10+. But HDR impact also depends on how bright the screen can make highlights, so the QM6K’s format list does not erase its weaker HDR highlights relative to the U7SG.

Inspect the live offer, not just the model name

  • Compare the exact screen size and model number; prices within one product line can differ substantially.
  • Check the current price, seller, stock, delivery charge, and whether the set is new or open-box.
  • Read the return and warranty terms before paying, especially for a discontinued or clearance model.
  • Recheck the listing on the day you buy. A review’s sale price is a past example, not a promise that the same deal remains available.

Is the Hisense QD6QF worth considering?

The QD6QF is another option when low price or a very large screen is the priority; RTINGS lists sizes up to 100 inches. It is not an equivalent substitute for the three picks above. It lacks local dimming, has weaker HDR brightness, and its HDMI 2.0 connection is limited to 4K/60Hz. That makes it a different trade-off for viewers who prioritize size over HDR impact and higher-refresh gaming.
