For the best PS5 Pro picture, start at Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output. Set Resolution to Automatic, use HDR On When Supported and Adjust HDR for your TV, and enable 120 Hz Output, VRR, and ALLM only when your TV, selected HDMI input, and game support them. Then verify what the console actually detects under Current Video Output Signal.
Check what your TV and HDMI input support
The TV, the HDMI port you use, and its settings determine which output modes the PS5 Pro can send. On the console, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output and review Current Video Output Signal and the connected HDMI device information. This is a more useful starting point than assuming every port on a TV supports the same features.
A TV may require a manufacturer-specific gaming or enhanced HDMI format setting before higher-bandwidth modes work. Check the TV manual for the port and setting to use. HDMI 2.1 branding by itself does not guarantee VRR or ALLM support. Sony’s support page documents the console’s output and connection checks: How to change PS5 console resolution.
Choose resolution and refresh rate separately
Resolution: Automatic is the sensible default
Set Resolution to Automatic to let the console choose the highest resolution it detects for the connected display. If you are checking a 4K setup, you can select 2160p explicitly, then confirm the resulting signal in Current Video Output Signal. Resolution does not determine frame rate: 4K output does not mean a game is running at 120 frames per second.

120 Hz Output: enable it when the setup supports it
Turn on 120 Hz Output if the TV and selected input support 120 Hz. This allows compatible displays and games to use 120 Hz output; it does not force every game to render at 120 FPS. The game must offer a suitable mode, and the TV, port, and cable must support the signal. Sony states that the PS5 supports the HDMI 2.1 specification and 4K 120 Hz video output in its resolution support guide.
When a game offers a choice between quality and performance, the PlayStation Blog describes quality modes as generally prioritizing detail and performance modes as generally targeting smoother 60–120 FPS play, sometimes with reduced detail. The precise options vary by game; choose in the game’s own settings based on whether detail or responsiveness matters more to you.

Enable VRR and ALLM when supported
VRR
Turn on VRR if your TV supports it and you play games that support VRR. Results can vary by TV. The optional Apply to Unsupported Games setting may help stabilize frame rate, but Sony advises turning it off if a game behaves unexpectedly.
ALLM
Enable ALLM when supported if you want the TV to switch automatically to a low-latency mode. With VRR output active, the TV may switch to low latency even when the ALLM toggle says Off. Sony notes that to fully disable ALLM behavior, VRR must also be off. Check the TV manual and the capabilities of the specific HDMI input rather than relying on the HDMI version label alone. PlayStation’s explanation of the TV feature is available at How to change PS5 console resolution.

Leave Video Transfer Rate on Automatic
Keep Video Transfer Rate set to Automatic unless you are troubleshooting flicker. Sony suggests trying -1 or -2 as troubleshooting limits, but those settings restrict supported output formats and can cost you modes such as 4K/120 Hz. If a lower setting fixes flicker but prevents the output mode you want, return to Automatic and investigate the TV input, cable, or intermediate equipment instead.
Optional PS5 Pro settings: PSSR and 8K
Enhance PSSR Image Quality
On supported PS5 Pro consoles, leave Enhance PSSR Image Quality at its default On for compatible games unless you are investigating a game-specific issue. The option applies only to supported CFI-7000 model-group consoles and games compatible with PSSR; it is not a general TV picture setting.

Allow 8K Output
Enable Allow 8K Output only if you have an 8K display that supports 8K at 60 Hz with DSC and accept the trade-off that VRR is disabled during 8K output. For most setups, 8K is a specialized option rather than a baseline requirement for PS5 Pro graphics.
Fix missing 4K/120 Hz or a blank signal
If 4K/120 Hz is unavailable or the screen goes blank after changing output settings, work through these checks in order:
- Confirm the display and input: Verify that the TV supports 4K/120 Hz on the exact HDMI port in use, and install current TV firmware.
- Check the TV’s HDMI setting: Enable the port’s required gaming or enhanced-format setting if the manufacturer requires one.
- Use a suitable cable: Try the cable supplied with the console or an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable rated for 4K/120 Hz. A replacement is not necessary if the supplied cable works correctly.
- Remove intermediate equipment: Connect the console directly to the TV to test whether a receiver, switch, or other device is preventing the mode.
- Check the console output: Set Resolution to Automatic or 2160p, then inspect Current Video Output Signal. Keep Video Transfer Rate on Automatic while diagnosing.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →What to verify when choosing a TV
For a PS5 Pro, compare the exact TV model and its HDMI input support rather than buying on a broad feature label. Check whether the intended port supports 4K at 120 Hz, HDR, VRR, and ALLM, and whether a setting must be enabled to use them. HDMI 2.1 alone does not establish that a set supports every feature, and port capabilities can differ within one TV.
If 8K is a specific priority, verify 8K at 60 Hz and DSC support and account for VRR being disabled during 8K output. Otherwise, 4K/120 Hz and the game’s available graphics modes are the more relevant checks for a gaming setup.
