For most international travelers, the best choice in 2026 is a universal travel adaptor with USB-C Power Delivery (PD)—provided every appliance you connect is already compatible with the destination’s voltage. The EPICKA TA-105 Max is the strongest all-round option in the current shortlist, while the TESSAN GM-636 is the better fit for a USB-C laptop and several devices.
If you already own suitable chargers and are visiting one region, a simple destination-specific plug adaptor is smaller and often more sensible. The critical warning is that a travel adaptor changes the plug shape, not the voltage. It will not make a single-voltage U.S. hair dryer, curling iron, or other high-wattage heating appliance safe to use overseas.
Quick answer: which travel adaptor should you buy?
| Best for | Recommended model | Why it stands out | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Most travelers | EPICKA TA-105 Max | 75W GaN charging, broad plug coverage, and capacity for up to six devices according to EPICKA’s current range information | It is not a voltage converter; verify the exact listing’s ports and destination coverage |
| USB-C laptop users | TESSAN GM-636 | Available in 65W and 100W versions, with two USB-A and three USB-C ports plus a universal AC outlet | The advertised wattage is shared across ports; the exact variant matters |
| Phones, tablets, and light packing | EPICKA TA-105C | 30W output, three USB-C ports, two USB-A ports, and a listed weight of 5.5 ounces | Not the default choice for a laptop or high-power kit |
| Smallest possible kit | TESSAN ultra-thin PD model | Slim form factor with USB-C PD and international plug compatibility | TESSAN sells similar-looking models, so confirm wattage, ports, and country exclusions |
| Premium or maximum USB output | OneAdaptr OneWorld135 or VisaPro All-in-One | Higher-output options for demanding USB-C setups; the VisaPro is listed at up to 170W | The OneWorld135 lacks a grounding pin; the VisaPro is intended for dual-voltage products and is not a general voltage converter |
These are buying-guide recommendations, not claims of firsthand testing. T3’s 2026 guide names the EPICKA TA-105 Max its best overall travel adaptor, while Travel + Leisure names an EPICKA Universal Travel Adapter its best overall model. Those are not necessarily the same product: do not transfer the older model’s port layout or country count to the newer TA-105 Max without checking the exact product page.

Adaptor versus voltage converter: the safety decision that matters
A plug adaptor is a mechanical device. It lets a charger or appliance with one plug shape connect to a wall socket with another shape. It does not change the incoming AC voltage or frequency.
A voltage converter, sometimes called a transformer or voltage transformer, is an electrical device that changes the voltage. It must be rated for the appliance’s power draw and may also need to accommodate startup loads from motors or heating elements. A travel adaptor with USB ports is not automatically a voltage converter.
#1 Best Overall
- Universal Plug Compatibility: Type A (US / Canada / Japan / China), Type C (EU), Type G (UK / Singapore), and Type I (Australia).
- Power 5 Devices at Once: Includes 1 AC outlet, 2 USB-A ports, and 2 USB-C ports. The USB ports support up to 20W total output or 15W max when shared. A single USB-C port delivers up to 20W and charges iPhone 16 to 50% in 28 minutes. The maximum current is 6A.
- Exceptionally Compact: Measuring just 3.39 × 1.97 × 0.98 in (86 × 50 × 25 mm), it has a credit card-sized footprint and is 43% smaller than similar models. See image 4 for the size comparison. Foldable and retractable pins make it even easier to carry.
- 2-Pin to 2-Pin Connection: The safe 2-pin design helps reduce the risk of electric shock for worry-free travel. The AC outlet does not support 3-prong grounded plugs, including EU Schuko, UK 3-pin, or grounded laptop chargers.
- What You Get: 1× Anker Nano Travel Adapter (5-in-1, 20W), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Do not connect a single-voltage hair dryer, curling iron, straightener, or similar heating appliance to a universal adaptor unless you have confirmed that the appliance is compatible with the destination voltage and that the adaptor’s AC outlet is rated for its wattage. In many cases, replacing the appliance with a dual-voltage travel model is lighter, simpler, and safer than carrying a large converter.
How to read the label
- Find the input rating. Look for wording such as
INPUT: 100–240V, 50/60Hzon the charger or device. A product labeled for that range is generally designed to work across common international voltages, but the individual product label remains authoritative. - Check the frequency. A plug adaptor does not change 50Hz to 60Hz or the reverse. Many electronic chargers accept both frequencies, but some motors, clocks, and appliances may not.
- Look for a voltage selector. Some dual-voltage appliances have a 110/120V and 220/240V switch. Set it correctly before connecting the appliance. A dual-voltage product is not the same thing as a single-voltage product connected through a plug adaptor.
- Check the adaptor’s AC rating. Even when an appliance supports the local voltage, the adaptor’s socket may have a maximum current or wattage rating. Do not assume its USB charging rating is also the rating of the AC outlet.
Sony’s international-use guidance makes the same central distinction: a plug adaptor only makes the cord fit the foreign outlet, so users must check the product label for the required voltage.
Best overall: EPICKA TA-105 Max
The EPICKA TA-105 Max is the most balanced choice for a traveler carrying a phone, tablet, camera, watch, earbuds, and perhaps a laptop. EPICKA’s current product range lists it as a 75W GaN universal travel adaptor. The brand says its flagship adaptors can charge up to six devices and use global plug configurations, while T3’s 2026 buying guide highlights the model’s compact design, fast charging, broad compatibility, and included carry case.
That combination makes it a better default than a basic plug-only adaptor for readers who want one charging hub at a hotel nightstand. The universal AC outlet can accept a camera charger, laptop power brick, or another charger that already supports the destination voltage. The USB ports can reduce the number of separate charging bricks in the bag.
What to verify before buying: EPICKA sells several similar models. Search for the full model name, EPICKA TA-105 Max, rather than relying on a listing titled only EPICKA Universal Travel Adapter. Confirm that the listing is the 75W Max version, check the current port arrangement, confirm the included case if that matters to you, and inspect the destination coverage. The older EPICKA Universal Travel Adapter is described by Travel + Leisure as having four USB-A ports, one USB-C port, one AC socket, and coverage in more than 150 countries. Those details should not be assumed for the TA-105 Max.
Like the other universal adaptors in this guide, the TA-105 Max is not a voltage converter. Its 75W figure describes its charging capability; it does not mean that a 75W hair dryer can be used safely through its AC outlet.

The TESSAN GM-636 is the more compelling alternative for a traveler carrying a USB-C laptop alongside several smaller devices. TESSAN lists versions with two USB-A ports and three USB-C ports, available with either 65W or 100W output. Alongside those five USB ports, it has a universal AC outlet, allowing up to six connected devices in the manufacturer’s stated configuration.
The 65W model is a reasonable target for many ultraportable laptops, phones, tablets, and accessories. The 100W version gives more headroom for compatible laptops and demanding charging setups. However, a headline wattage is not the same as 65W or 100W delivered to every port simultaneously. When two or more USB-C devices are connected, the adaptor may redistribute power according to its internal power-sharing rules.
Before purchase, check whether the listing is the 65W or 100W version and read the current output table. Match that table against your laptop’s charger requirement rather than choosing solely by the largest number in the product title. TESSAN also states that the GM-636 covers more than 200 countries and regions and includes double-fuse protection, safety shutters, and temperature control. Treat the country count as a model-specific manufacturer claim, not proof that every socket variation is covered.
Rank #2
- Multi-Device Charging Capability: Equipped with 1 universal input, 3x USB-A ports (2.4A), and 2x USB-C ports (1 with power delivery and Quick Charge 3.0) delivering 45W for charging cell phones, iPhones, tablets, iPads, laptops, and other devices anywhere in the world
- Safety Certified Protection: Built with an 8A fuse (extra included), FCC CE RoHS certified safety system, electric shock protection, plug lock, and built-in safety shutters to protect you and your devices from external shock and short circuit when charging
- Voltage Compatibility Notice: This adapter is not a voltage converter and will not convert voltage; ensure your device supports worldwide 100-240V for use overseas; not compatible with 110V-only devices such as hair dryers, curling irons, or straighteners
- Compact All-in-One Design: Eliminates the need for multiple adapters by combining universal input compatibility with multiple USB charging ports in a single compact unit for convenient international travel
- Universal Plug Compatibility: Type A output for Japan, United States, Canada, Mexico; Type I for China, Australia, New Zealand; Type C for Europe, South America, Asia; and Type G for United Kingdom, Ireland, Singapore, and Hong Kong
If your priority is a laptop, the TESSAN GM-636 65W travel adapter is the sensible starting point when your computer accepts 65W USB-C PD. Choose the 100W variant only when the laptop and the adaptor’s power-sharing behavior justify it.
Best compact option for phones and tablets: EPICKA TA-105C
The EPICKA TA-105C is aimed at a lighter, modern-device kit. EPICKA lists three USB-C ports, two USB-A ports, and 30W output. That is well suited to phones, earbuds, smartwatches, cameras with USB charging, and many tablets. The manufacturer lists its weight at 5.5 ounces, compared with 5.1 ounces for the standard TA-105, so it is compact but not necessarily the lightest model in EPICKA’s range.
Thirty watts can be enough for a tablet and is more than adequate for most phones, but it is not a safe universal laptop recommendation. Some small laptops may charge at 30W under light use, while others will charge slowly, show a low-power warning, or lose battery while in use. Check the computer’s USB-C charging requirement and the TA-105C output profile before treating it as a laptop charger.
This is the right category for a one-bag traveler who already owns a separate laptop charger—or does not carry a laptop—and wants several modern USB-C connections in a small unit. It is not a voltage converter.
Best space-saving choice: TESSAN’s ultra-thin PD model
TESSAN also offers an ultra-thin universal travel adaptor with USB-C PD. Current 2026 coverage presents it as a slim option for travelers who value suitcase and personal-item space. It is a useful secondary choice when the adaptor will mostly charge a phone, tablet, or other USB-C device and a low-profile design matters more than maximum output.
Be careful with this category because TESSAN sells multiple visually similar products. Confirm the exact wattage, number and type of USB ports, AC-outlet rating, grounding arrangement, and any destination exclusions on the live manufacturer or retailer page. The thin model is a plug adaptor with charging functions, not a voltage converter.
Premium and high-power alternatives
OneAdaptr OneWorld135
The OneAdaptr OneWorld135 is a premium option in T3’s 2026 comparison. Its appeal is higher-end construction and strong USB-C charging capacity for people carrying several demanding devices. The important trade-off is grounding: T3 notes that the OneWorld135 lacks a grounding pin.
That may be acceptable for many two-prong phone and laptop chargers, but it is not appropriate for equipment that requires a protective earth. If you are powering grounded camera equipment, audio gear, or another device with a three-prong protective-earth connection, choose an adaptor with the required grounding arrangement instead of assuming that a universal socket provides it.
VisaPro All-in-One Travel Adapter
T3 lists the VisaPro All-in-One Travel Adapter as a high-power option offering up to 170W, USB-A and USB-C ports, and compatibility across more than 200 countries. Its key limitation is easy to miss: it is intended for dual-voltage products. The high output does not turn it into a voltage converter and does not make a single-voltage heating appliance safe.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor a traveler with several USB-C devices, 170W may be attractive, but maximum wattage is not a complete quality score. Consider the unit’s size, heat management, port allocation, wall-outlet stability, grounding, fuse or overcurrent protection, and actual coverage for your destination.

How much USB-C PD wattage do you need?
Use the device’s own charger or technical specifications as the starting point. As a practical guide:
- 20–30W: suitable for most phones, earbuds, watches, and many tablets.
- 45–65W: a useful range for many ultraportable USB-C laptops, in addition to phones and tablets.
- 100W or more: worth considering for larger USB-C laptops or a multi-device kit that needs more total capacity.
These are planning ranges, not guarantees. A laptop’s required input, charging protocol, battery state, workload, and the adaptor’s power-sharing rules all affect results. A 100W product may provide 100W only when one suitable port is being used; connecting a second device can reduce the first port’s available power.
Also distinguish USB-C output from AC socket capacity. The USB ports contain charging electronics that convert wall power into the low-voltage output expected by USB devices. The AC socket generally passes the destination’s mains voltage through to the connected charger or appliance. It does not provide the same conversion.

Most universal models combine U.S.-, European-, British-, and Australian-style plug systems. That covers many common routes, but claims such as 150-plus or 200-plus countries and regions are model-specific marketing claims. They do not guarantee a perfect fit for every outlet in every country.
Before ordering, check the exact destination—especially if traveling to India, South Africa, Brazil, Japan, or Switzerland. These destinations can involve socket configurations that are not fully covered by the four common slide-out plug families, or that require a particular grounding or pin arrangement. A universal adaptor may physically fit one outlet in a hotel but not another in an older building, airport, or rental property.
If the trip is limited to one region and you already own a charger labeled 100–240V, a Europe plug adapter, UK adaptor, Japan adaptor, or another destination-specific model may be smaller and less expensive than a universal multiport unit. Verify that the plug adaptor is designed for the exact socket type and that it does not block adjacent outlets.
Safety features worth paying attention to
Fuses and overcurrent protection
Look for clearly stated fuse, overcurrent, short-circuit, or thermal protection rather than relying on a vague safety label. TESSAN says the GM-636 includes double-fuse protection and temperature control. If a model uses a replaceable fuse, use only the manufacturer-specified rating and type. Never substitute a higher-rated fuse to stop it blowing.
Safety shutters
Safety shutters help prevent accidental contact with live parts in the universal socket. They are particularly useful in shared rooms or when the adaptor will be used around children, but they do not compensate for incorrect voltage or overloading.
Grounding
A missing grounding pin is not merely a cosmetic difference. Many small two-prong USB chargers do not need a protective earth, while some chargers and appliances do. Check the plug and charger requirements before using a compact adaptor with grounded equipment. The OneAdaptr OneWorld135 is a specific example whose missing grounding pin should influence the buying decision.
Wall stability and heat
A heavy multiport adaptor can place leverage on a loose hotel outlet, especially when a laptop charger is hanging from it. A compact unit can be more stable. Another solution is a short, properly rated extension cable: it moves the weight from the wall socket to a table, but it must be rated for the intended load and must not be coiled tightly while carrying substantial power.

Keep ventilation openings clear, do not cover the adaptor with bedding or clothing, and unplug it if it becomes unusually hot, smells burnt, makes crackling sounds, or shows physical damage.
Never stack adaptors
Do not insert one travel adaptor into another to solve a country-coverage problem. IEC 60884-2-5:2017 specifically addresses travel adaptors and adaptors with additional functions, including warnings against stacking adaptors and requirements related to construction and overcurrent protection. If the adaptor does not fit the destination socket, use a correctly designed destination-specific adaptor or replace the universal model.

You carry a phone, tablet, camera, and watch
Choose a 30W to 75W multiport adaptor. The EPICKA TA-105C is the compact choice; the TA-105 Max gives more headroom and a broader all-round setup. Count your actual cables and check whether you need USB-A for older accessories.
You carry a USB-C laptop and several devices
Start with the TESSAN GM-636 in the correct 65W or 100W variant, or consider another high-output model after checking its power-sharing table. If your laptop uses a proprietary charger, use the universal adaptor’s AC outlet with that charger—but confirm the charger says 100–240V, 50/60Hz.
You carry a single charger to one country
Buy a destination-specific plug adaptor. It will generally take less space and avoid paying for unused USB ports and plug mechanisms. This is especially sensible when your existing charger already accepts the local voltage.
Recommended Free Tools
You need a hair dryer or curling iron
First check whether the appliance is dual-voltage. If it is single-voltage, a universal adaptor alone is not enough. A properly rated voltage converter may be required, but a dual-voltage travel hair dryer or dual-voltage curling iron is often the more practical solution. Confirm the appliance’s switch setting and the adaptor or converter’s wattage rating before use.
Example: a North American traveler going to Europe
Suppose you are carrying a phone, camera, tablet, and USB-C laptop. Check every charger’s input label. If the chargers say 100–240V, 50/60Hz, you need a plug adaptor and suitable USB charging output, not a mains voltage converter. The EPICKA TA-105 Max is a sensible all-round shortlist item; the TESSAN GM-636 is more appropriate if the laptop needs 65W or more and you want five USB ports.
If you also pack a 120V-only hair dryer, neither adaptor solves that problem. Leave it at home, take a dual-voltage replacement, or use a properly selected converter. Do not infer safety from the fact that the plug physically fits.
Air travel, batteries, and security
A normal plug adaptor is not a power bank and does not contain a battery. A battery-equipped adaptor or a separate power bank is a different category and brings airline and security rules into play.

IATA recommends keeping portable electronic devices and power banks in carry-on baggage, subject to the applicable airline and dangerous-goods rules. Check your airline and the rules of the departure country because allowances can differ, particularly for high-capacity lithium batteries. Do not assume that a product containing a battery can automatically go in checked luggage or in a particular bag.

Will a travel adaptor work with a hair dryer?
Only if the hair dryer is compatible with the destination voltage and the adaptor’s AC outlet is rated for the dryer’s wattage. A universal adaptor does not convert voltage. A single-voltage hair dryer may require a properly rated voltage converter, but a dual-voltage travel dryer is often the simpler option.
Do I need a voltage converter for Europe?
Not for most modern chargers labeled 100–240V, 50/60Hz. You will generally need the correct plug adaptor, but check every charger and appliance label individually. A single-voltage appliance may need a converter or a dual-voltage replacement.
Can I charge a MacBook with a travel adaptor?
Usually, if the MacBook charger accepts 100–240V, 50/60Hz. For USB-C charging, match the MacBook’s required wattage to the adaptor’s output and power-sharing behavior. A 45W or 65W adaptor may suit many ultraportable models, while larger MacBooks can require more; the specific MacBook and charger determine the answer.
What does 100W mean on a travel adaptor?
It normally describes the adaptor’s maximum USB-C charging output under specified conditions, not 100W on every port at the same time. When multiple devices are connected, power may be divided. Check the manufacturer’s output table and confirm whether the 100W figure applies to one port or the total USB system.
The Bottom Line
Buy the EPICKA TA-105 Max for the best general-purpose mix of plug coverage and USB charging, or choose the TESSAN GM-636 when a USB-C laptop and several devices make higher output important. Choose the EPICKA TA-105C for a lighter phone-and-tablet kit, or a destination-specific adaptor when you already own compatible chargers. In every case, check voltage, frequency, wattage, grounding, and the exact destination before plugging in.
