Valheim is the closest all-round substitute for Enshrouded. It preserves the gather, craft, build, explore and fight loop while changing Enshrouded’s handcrafted world for a procedural wilderness. Choose V Rising if combat, gear progression and bosses matter more than unrestricted construction; Palworld if you want creature collection and base automation; or Nightingale if realm-based fantasy exploration is the draw.
Other strong matches take a sharper angle: Sons of the Forest adds horror, Grounded offers lighter co-op survival, Conan Exiles Enhanced emphasizes construction, and Core Keeper keeps the survival-crafting RPG formula but moves it to a top-down view.
What Enshrouded sets as the baseline
Enshrouded is a solo and cooperative survival action RPG built around open-world exploration, base building, crafting and online co-op. Its official descriptions emphasize varied equipment and a large skill tree, giving character development a class-like RPG feel instead of treating survival as the entire progression system.
The world is handcrafted rather than assembled entirely from procedural terrain. The PlayStation listing also highlights terraformable land, so reshaping the environment is part of the building appeal. That combination—RPG progression, construction, exploration and the ability to alter terrain—is what the alternatives match unevenly.

The trade-off every substitute makes
No game in this list reproduces every Enshrouded characteristic at once. One may offer a stronger combat ladder but less building freedom; another may provide a more distinctive world structure or collection system while moving away from Enshrouded’s class-like progression. Pick the feature you are least willing to lose before choosing a title.

Valheim: the safest first recommendation
Choose Valheim when what you miss is Enshrouded’s complete survival-crafting rhythm rather than one specific feature. Both games ask you to gather materials, craft, construct a base, explore, fight and progress with friends. That makes Valheim the least disruptive follow-up for a player who wants another broad survival RPG instead of a specialized variation.
Recommended Free Tools
The important difference is the world. Valheim uses a procedural wilderness, while Enshrouded is built around a handcrafted world. Procedural generation changes how discovery feels: the layout is assembled rather than authored as one fixed landscape, so your group’s route and landmarks will not mirror another group’s experience. If you value a curated environment and deliberate points of interest above replayable terrain, that is the main reason not to choose Valheim.
Valheim is therefore the default recommendation for mixed groups. It does not demand that everyone agree on a single specialty such as horror, creature collecting or boss speed. Instead, it preserves the broad activity mix that makes Enshrouded work as a group game.
V Rising: choose combat and bosses over building freedom
V Rising is the better match when your favorite Enshrouded moments involve fighting, improving gear and preparing for the next major encounter. Its progression is organized around action combat, equipment advancement and boss encounters, giving combat a clearer center of gravity than Enshrouded’s more evenly balanced exploration-and-construction loop.

The compromise is construction. V Rising is not the pick for players who want Enshrouded-style freeform voxel building or extensive terrain reshaping. Its appeal comes from the combat ladder and the decisions around gearing for encounters. You should select it when a group would rather plan its next boss than spend an evening refining a base.
Who should pick it
- Players who rank responsive action combat first.
- Groups that want bosses to define their progression milestones.
- Builders willing to accept less unrestricted construction in exchange for a stronger combat identity.
Palworld: the distinctive choice for creatures and automation
Palworld departs further from Enshrouded by making creature collection part of the survival loop. Capturing creatures is not a side activity: the creatures can also be used around bases, tying collection to production and automation.
That structure suits players who enjoy building a workforce as much as building walls. Your long-term goals become partly about which creatures to collect and how to use them in base operations. If your ideal Enshrouded successor is a deeper construction-and-RPG game with a similar skill-tree feel, Palworld is a weaker match. If you want a collection system that changes how a base functions, it is the most clearly differentiated option here.
Who should pick it
- Collectors who want creatures to have practical base roles.
- Groups interested in production systems and automation.
- Players comfortable trading class-like RPG similarity for a stronger creature-centered identity.
Nightingale: fantasy realms instead of one continuous map
Nightingale is aimed at players who want survival crafting wrapped in overt fantasy and realm-oriented exploration. Its structure is not one continuous Enshrouded-style map; the realm concept is the defining change.
Choose it when the fantasy setting and the feeling of moving between distinct realms matter more than preserving Enshrouded’s exact world flow. This is a better fit for players who want the setting itself to be a major source of variety. It is less suitable if your priority is a single handcrafted landscape that you gradually know in detail and reshape through building.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Who should pick it
- Players seeking a visibly fantastical survival-crafting setting.
- Explorers who prefer realm-based variety to one continuous world.
- Groups that want atmosphere and setting changes to drive their next expedition.
Sons of the Forest: the horror route
Sons of the Forest keeps cooperative survival and building but shifts the emotional register toward horror and tension. That makes it the natural choice when Enshrouded’s danger is appealing but you want every expedition to feel more threatening.
The tonal change is the point, not a minor variation. Players who prefer relaxed construction sessions or a conventional fantasy atmosphere may find the horror emphasis distracting. Conversely, groups that want conversation to stop when the environment becomes dangerous should put this near the top of their list.
Who should pick it
- Co-op groups that want fear and tension to shape exploration.
- Builders who still want construction alongside a horror setting.
- Players for whom atmosphere matters more than class-like RPG progression.
Grounded: a lighter, smaller co-op alternative
Grounded is the accessible option in this group. It offers cooperative survival in a smaller, friendlier setting, making it easier to recommend to players who want the shared gathering-and-building routine without the same level of fantasy danger or world scale.
Select Grounded when your group includes newcomers or when the social side of survival matters more than maximizing RPG depth. Its smaller setting can also make a short co-op session easier to organize: there is less expectation that everyone will commit to a long expedition across a vast world.

Who should pick it
- Newer survival players who want a gentler entry point.
- Groups prioritizing accessible co-op over a darker tone.
- Players who prefer a compact setting to a large open-world commitment.
Conan Exiles Enhanced: construction as the main event
Conan Exiles Enhanced is the construction-heavy recommendation. Choose it when the freedom to design, expand and maintain a base is more important than reproducing Enshrouded’s specific RPG progression.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
This is a good fit for server communities that treat building as an ongoing project. It is a poorer match for a player whose favorite part of Enshrouded is the large skill tree or the balance between authored exploration and terraforming. In that case, Valheim or V Rising better preserves the desired progression loop.
Who should pick it
- Players who measure a survival game by construction possibilities.
- Groups that enjoy long-term base projects and sandbox experimentation.
- Builders willing to make construction the deciding feature rather than one part of a broader RPG package.
Core Keeper: a top-down change of perspective
Core Keeper retains co-op survival crafting and RPG elements but presents them from a top-down perspective. That camera change affects how exploration, navigation and base layouts feel, so it is best treated as a different interpretation of the genre rather than a direct visual substitute.

Versions are listed for Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Steam and Xbox PC. Those platform options make it the practical choice for a group spread across those ecosystems, provided each player confirms the version available to them.
Choose Core Keeper when the systems matter more than Enshrouded’s third-person presentation and handcrafted-world feel. It is especially appealing to players who enjoy a sandbox survival RPG but prefer a clear overhead view of their surroundings and construction.

Building and terrain
Enshrouded’s combination of base building and terraformable land is unusually central to its identity. Conan Exiles Enhanced is the specialist choice for construction freedom. Valheim preserves building as part of the core loop but changes the surrounding world to procedural wilderness. V Rising is the weakest choice for someone whose first question is, “How freely can I reshape my settlement?” because its recommendation rests on combat and bosses instead.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Handcrafted, procedural or realm-based worlds
World structure determines the kind of discovery you get. Enshrouded offers a handcrafted world; Valheim’s procedural wilderness emphasizes replayable, player-specific layouts; Nightingale organizes exploration around fantastical realms. None is objectively superior. Pick handcrafted design for authored routes, procedural generation for unpredictability, or realms for a stronger sense of distinct settings.
Combat and progression
Enshrouded combines equipment with a large skill tree, creating class-like choices within a survival game. V Rising narrows the spotlight toward action combat, gear progression and bosses. Palworld redirects progression into creature collection and base production. If your group argues about what to do next, identify whether the answer should be “unlock a skill,” “prepare for a boss,” or “find and assign a creature.”
Survival pressure and tone
Sons of the Forest is the clear horror pick. Grounded is the lighter, friendlier alternative. The other games sit closer to fantasy or sandbox survival, with their differences coming more from progression and world structure than from fear. Tone should be a selection criterion, not an afterthought: it determines whether a group wants relaxed building, tense expeditions or combat-focused sessions.
Camera and presentation
Core Keeper is the only title in this set explicitly identified by its top-down perspective. Comparable camera details are not established for the other candidates, so choose them on their documented world and progression differences instead.
A decision guide for choosing your next game
- Write down the feature you would miss most. If it is the complete gather-craft-build-explore-fight loop, start with Valheim. If it is bosses, start with V Rising. If it is creatures and production, start with Palworld.
- Decide whether the world should feel authored or variable. Pick Enshrouded-like handcrafted design when deliberate exploration matters, Valheim for procedural wilderness, or Nightingale for realm-based variety.
- Set the group’s tone. Choose Sons of the Forest for horror and tension, Grounded for a lighter co-op setting, or one of the fantasy and sandbox options for a less fear-driven session.
- Choose your building priority. Keep Enshrouded or consider Conan Exiles Enhanced when construction freedom is non-negotiable. Treat V Rising as a combat-first game rather than a building replacement.
- Check the camera and platform requirement. Core Keeper is the top-down option, with versions listed for Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Steam and Xbox PC. Confirm platform availability for every member of the group before buying.
- Try the closest match first. For an undecided group, Valheim is the safest starting point because it changes the world structure while preserving the largest share of Enshrouded’s general activity loop.
Recommended shortlists by player type
| If you are asking for… | Start with… | Accept this compromise |
|---|---|---|
| “The most similar overall experience” | Valheim | A procedural wilderness instead of a handcrafted world |
| “Better fights and bosses” | V Rising | Less emphasis on freeform construction |
| “Creatures that help my base” | Palworld | A creature-and-production focus instead of Enshrouded-style RPG progression |
| “A more overt fantasy adventure” | Nightingale | Realm-oriented exploration instead of one continuous map |
| “Co-op horror with building” | Sons of the Forest | A much tenser tone |
| “An easier co-op survival game” | Grounded | A smaller, friendlier setting |
| “The deepest construction focus” | Conan Exiles Enhanced | Less emphasis on matching Enshrouded’s RPG structure |
| “Survival crafting from above” | Core Keeper | A top-down presentation |
Bottom line
Start with Valheim if you want the closest broad replacement for Enshrouded’s survival-crafting co-op loop. Move to V Rising for combat and bosses, Palworld for creatures and automation, or Nightingale for realm-based fantasy. Choose Sons of the Forest, Grounded, Conan Exiles Enhanced or Core Keeper when horror, accessibility, construction or a top-down view is the feature that matters most.
